We didn’t get any repercussions this time, in Bobcaygeon. We saw the aftermath of Toronto’s storm though, lightning and lots of rain, but last week a small wind storm went through and downed trees at our cottage……you never know do you what the weather will do. We listen to 680 each morning to find out whats happening around us, thanks.

We experienced thunder and lightning like never before. One of the lightning strikes felt that it was in front of our house. Although we turned off all equipment, when we turned them back on, we had one TV, two DVDs, sound system and VCR all burnt. About $2,000 damage.

Late Thursday afternoon, just northwest of Jane and Wilson, I was cleaning up my equipment at the back of my Emergency Response Unit Tahoe (I’m a paramedic) after a call. From the west, a wall of very dark grey cloud approaches, and within seconds there is lightning all around me, continuously. Thinking it was not a good idea to be standing beneath the raised rear hatch, I decided to tidy up later and headed to the nearest ambulance station. Some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen started coming down, and very high wind. When I pulled onto Wilson Ave, east toward Jane St, the rain water was running down the slope 5 cm deep, right over the drain holes. The wind was actually moving the Tahoe around. Later, I heard on another station that a funnel cloud had been sited near the 400 and 401, rather near to where I was. I have seen many nasty thunderstorms, but never something like that.

I was trapped on HWY 400 at Rutherford when the tornado came through. I watched to my west side as the twister danced on the rooftops of building as it move in a North East direction towards the highway. Lightning was striking all around me. A bolt hit a pole to the left side of my car. The pressure from the strike went through my left side. I felt a pain in my chest like a line backer had just crushed me. My left ear was in pain and my eyes saw blue light! People were out of their cars taking pictures of the tornado and the lightning strikes. When I got up to Major Mackenzie, I got off and went a block west to find safety in a parking lot. Then it got dark as night and the rain came down. The lot filled with one foot of water in about 10 minutes. Others were filling up the lot now as it was impossible to see with the wipers going full tilt. There was debris hanging from the electrical wires. I was glued to 680 as they tracked the weather movement across the city. I sat and cried as the pain in my body and the fear I felt was overwhelming. WHen the sun broke through the clouds, I headed north on Weston to go home. Never looked back!

I just couldn’t believe what happened yesterday evening.I was sitting at my porche yesterday evening and all of a sudden the wind and rain started coming to my left side and i was just looking outside and i was thinking about a tree that was beside my house that what will happen if it brakes down and start smashing into cars and making damages. And i also thought what will happen on the highway and the main roads and the electricity poles and everything and everyone because when a lightning comes, you never know if your going to get a lightning stroke or not.And i have never seen anything like this before in my whole life before.

I arrived home early from work and went about my nightly routine. Every now and then I heard what sounded like thunder but I figured it was my neighbour working in his garage and dismissed it. Next thing I knew the satellite went out and the sky turned black and the rain came down… heavy, The last time I can remember it rained like this was back a few years ago on Aug 19th when i got stuck in the rain storm and the power went out over the entire end end. This however tops the cake, my daughter was so scared and thought for sure we’d be blown away. Luckily all we(Pickering) had was lots and lots of rain and a few downed trees and branches. I heard today from others that some of their basements flooded.

I was driving home yesterday westbound along Hwy 7 near Kipling just after 6pm. There were some dark, ominous clouds just above me, reaching like tentacles down from the heavens and slowly rotating overhead. Then suddenly a twister appeared to the right of my car less than a block away! It moved slowly and started picking up shingles and other debris. I ended up turning into a strip
mall for cover and stood with other witnesses outside a restaurant who were holding their cell phones to capture the scene, watching in utter disbelief. The tornado was graceful as a ballerina, moving gently, slowly and twisting and moving it’s path of destruction towards the northeast. It was amazing to see first hand and so close up but frightening at the same time.
