  1. Anne Says:

Not only should we have a pedestrian tunnel but how about a public transit tunnel too…..maybe then there would be alternates to not only the Island Airport but the rest of Centre and Ward Island for both island residents and tourists. As the Island Airport grows, City Hall should see the potential and grow with it….sure may help tourism in TO if your could land at the airport and walk or take public transit right into the heart of downtown TO in minutes. Wonder if the socialists at Silly Hall are listening to what the residents of TO want….or will this become another election issue??

  2. Anurag Goyal Says:

I am opposed to the idea as money can be well spent on several other projects in the city of Toronto such as widening of traffic congestion roads. City center Airport is used by very few individuals and it is not worth to spend all this money to benefit those few and paid by all tax-payers.

  3. howard Says:

I think it’s a wonderful idea, about time.
Can you imagine a link to the airport, it has
    unlimited potentials

    thanks

  4. Frank Clayton Says:

I think a direct connection, whether a tunnel or a bridge, would be extremely positive, not only for the Porter travellers but for the City of Toronto as a whole. The Island Airport provides the City with a very significant economic development feature that Toronto’s competitors in North America do not have. We should be leveraging this important asset. Time for the Mayor to show leader in this regard.

  5. Jim Stittle Says:

Yes I do support a tunnel to the the Island Airport. Making access easier is making life better for the 100’s of thousands that use the Airport every year.

  6. Jie Says:

good idea to build pedestrian tunnel

  7. Milt Flynn Says:

Great idea full support, hoefully full steam ahead!! Get it done….

  8. mary Says:

First of all I don’t believe that’s a genuine representative survey of our population. A tunnel for pedestrians only, would not only be an unpleasant way to go but would do NOTHING to help the Medi-Vac access. It’s a really dumb idea. If they have to do something go back to the bridge propsal — at least it was attractive and useful. BUT REALLY aren’t there many more things we REALLY NEED???

  9. Alex L Says:

Pay for it out of the airport improvement fee. That’s what it’s for. Not from the average taxpayer’s pocket.

  10. Harry Says:

A tunnel is long overdue. Since our Mayor insisted on using Toronto Tax Payers money in a frivolous manner (which continues in recent weeks) to prevent a bridge from being built rather than consider this alternative fixed link at that time.
Porter continues to prove our Mayor Miller incorrect with the creation of jobs, a valued service to Toronto residents, all while proofing that Mr. Miller’s vocal predictions that no one wants to fly on turboprops anymore was false as well.

  11. Christina Says:

I agree with Anne! A public transit tunnel/pedestrian tunnel would be fantastic! It would allow the airport to grow, like it should and bring more tourists to TO.

  12. Eva Says:

Abosolutely! Long overdue. Do any of the elected officials actually pay attention to these surveys?

  13. Marvin Says:

I am in support as long as those opposing don’t get mayor Miller re-elected.

  14. Andrew Says:

The airport is a great amenity and envied by other cities. we should allow the airport to build a bridge or tunnel, with their dollars and at their choice.
Come on Mayor Miller, you lost the strike dont risk losing this great service

  15. Duke Gray Says:

How about putting the money in to something the city really needs like a subway system along Finch Avenue, taking care of potholes faster than what they’re going at right now to protect cars better and make the roads safer. The Sheppard subway line was a ridiculous idea and it should have been on Finch because if you look at Finch buses they’re always packed full! How about putting the money in to other useful projects that make the city safer and more people friendly like more police forces, fire dept, ambulance service etc. How about child services that protect children from abusive parents and abusive foster parents, maybe some more money in to that? It’s always the things that money goes to that seems to wither and die off as fast as they were created. ALSO…..politicians and government workers are paid WAY too much for what they really do. Maybe the entire city’s working class should go on strike so those people (gov’t and it’s affiliates)won’t be able to get their lattes or expensive suits or nifty hairdo’s before they go on television or whatever it is they do. Let’s see this money go to useful things and not useless things. The Island Airport has functioned just fine without some walkway or tunnel for how long now? C’mon, get real here people and don’t spend it on things that won’t benefit the city as a city for it’s people.

  16. Ralph Burchert Says:

Absolutely, it’s long overdue. Dealing with the Ferry adds too much time to the overall excursion. It’s easier to fly through Pearson unless you live downtown or the Beaches. Porter Airlines should pay the bulk of the costs.

  17. Shar Says:

A bridge or tunnel should have been built years ago. I don’t understand why people are fighting it. If we rebelled against the use of a computer when the idea was first introduced where would we be today! You can’t stand in the way of development when it is for the best!….It’s about time we got to the Island without a ferry for goodness sakes!

  18. David Says:

Yes there should be tunnel to the Island Airport for pedestrians, public transit and cargo vehicles. It would make Porter an even better option, and after having the misfortune of taking Air Canada this summer on vacation Porter is a much better future plan for us.
Now if only the morons at city hall would wake up and do something productive like this … hang on, what am I saying? This tunnel idea makes sense, ah, that’s why the the “Miller moronettes” will never go for it! Silly Me!

  19. Paul Burston Says:

Mayor Miller, does not seem to have a vision for Toronto, he seems to be just treading water, maybe thats why we don’t have a bridge or tunnel to the Island airport, he dosen’t need it.
Toronto needs a world class Mayor in order for it to keep its world class status as a city. Miller will be remembered for many missed opportunities, lets not miss this one, already increased numbers of people are using the island airport. Why not a tunnel for pedestrian and for public transportation as well. This project will not only generate jobs now but will continue to well after the tunnel is built.

  20. Tired Taxpayer, Pete. Says:

Build it as long as the cost is absorbed by the Aiprort Authority and not another burden to tax-payers, then they can have their pay as you go system to recover their investment.

  21. Angie Says:

Access us critical without an enviromental impact. I would like to see a light rail or rapid transit shuttle system. It could have a pedestrian aspect but will allow for emergency access in a superior way.

  22. John Says:

There is not doubt about it. We also need to make it easy for everyone to get to the island and not be held up by strinking workers.

  23. Stephen Says:

Mayor Millar keeps talking about increasing access. Would someone please explain that you increase access by increasing means of access? He got elected on a platform of stopping a bridge. Or maybe he does not recognize bridges as means of increasing access.

And at Anurag Goyal, if very few people use it then maybe that’s actually a reason to increase access to it so more people do use it? And why are they always expanding if very few people use it?

  24. Hemayet Ali Says:

It’s a good idea to connect airport with city, but only for pedestrains!!!!!!!!!! Why not tunnel like in New York City Lincoln Tunnel/Holland Tunnel or, bridge like George Washington Bridge!!!Do keep in mind that money should not come from regular middle class tax payers. Let all the airline company pay for it and ask help from big companies…..

  25. Steeplejack Says:

    Fantastic idea! Build it!

  26. Gianna Says:

Great idea, the sooner the better. Easy access to the island and the airport and no more waiting for ferries

  27. jeff Says:

Built the tunnel with two lanes road, and run TTC buses up and down with 15 minutes interval

  28. Lou Says:

a tunnel is long overdue. Enough with the Mayor holding Porter and Island Airport hostage. Mr. Mayor you can’t stop progress. Progress in this case is a very good and ecological thing to do. Not doing anything is not an option. Island Airport traffic i.e. Porter is a true vision and very successful plan to stay. Mr. Mayor, get with the program. To sweeten the deal, it would be nice to see Lovat Tunneling Technology to win the contract. After all we would be employing local technology and engineering staff etc to do this work. A win win solution for all.

  29. Kim Says:

Tunnel or bridge - either is fine. But why not be imaginative and capture the spirit of the Toronto Islands by also having a mini “toy” train, like the one at Centreville, or include lanes for bike rickshaws? No need to be boring about it.

  30. Mike D. Says:

Great idea, tunnel is a good temporary solution, in the long run, the channel should be turned into multi-level parking with trees and greens on the roof, and the airport expanded for better access and service. One cannot stop progress.
