Sunday’s “BANDS FOR BREATH” Helene Campbell benefit and organ donor drive was a cymbal crashing success at Greenfields Pub with over 600 supporters attending throughout the day. The place was at or near capacity for the entire eight hour event with over $7600 raised to support the Campbell family (a Barrhaven Community Association pancake breakfast brought in $3000 the day before) as well as several organ donor registrations.
Admittedly, it was an emotionally charged event with Helene’s father, Allan and siblings, David and Elizabeth in attendance. Additionally, several organ donors, recipients and advocates shared their most personal life, death and near-death experiences. So, it was important that the entertainment remained upbeat, energetic and fun. And rock out we did!!
My heartfelt thanks to my fellow CHEZ106 HOSERS, THE DURTZ, TRACY’S POINT, THE AIRLINER BLUES BAND, THREE TIMES LUCKY, WHERE’S MIKE, my band PLAN B, and Luc Langlois’ RUCKUS. All performed with energy, mirth, tremendous talent and passion for good o’ rock n’ roll!!
Additional thanks to Mayor Jim Watson and Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod for appearing and saying a few words and to the awesome staff and sound crew at Greenfields.
Huge thanks and kudos to organizer Luc Langlois for his hard work in setting up this event as well as the many volunteers. Awesome effort.
It’s also important that we thank the area businesses who generously donated awesome prizes and services for the cause. A full list can be found on Luc’s RUCKUS band page. Please check it out!
