EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about ME!!!!!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The whole town is buzzing with Zed Filmworks’ call for extras in the upcoming film “Sacrifice” starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Christian Slater.

In the wake of the recent appearance of Ottawa actor Peter Dillon on the Doc and Woody Show, I recalled acting a small roll with him in the TV series Butch Patterson: Private Dick, which aired on The Comedy Network and CBC several years ago. It was an experience to be lived by anyone, to be sure. To be an environment where showbiz LIVES and to be accepted as a peer, even for a day, surely gave me faith in the entertainment industry and those that propel it forward.

Shooting those scenes with Peter, Laird Evans and show star Greg Lawrence was a lot of fun and, during the breaks, I found Mr. Dillon to be a really nice, warm, down to earth and charming guy.

So, the reminiscing of those moments motivated me to respond to the call for extras, primarily in the hopes of working with him again.

I sent the only sample I could find from that shoot years back. Here’s hopin’ they make the call!

Judge for yourself, to deem me as a “potential” extra. Hell, I REALLY just wanna have a pint with Peter. I could just pick up the phone and call… but THIS seems to just be a little bit more of an adventure… doncha think?

Here’s the only vid sample I have right now… I had one solitary speaking line, followed by a “knock out” head-butt, although it’s not about speaking parts. So, I’m just happy to show the “extra” scene where I play the poker playing, non-speaking, guy in a jacket withOUT a tie and dum-looking “bling”!! WARDROBE??????

Just a few headlines you may have missed this week….

India’s military has a new secret weapon.  Betcha never thought your chili recipe had any other use.

A Quantas pilot with OCD was allowed to fly despite uncontrollable urges to crash the planes.  Even better, he repeatedly shared his urges with his colleagues.  How’dya like to be HIS co-pilot.

Two Great Fundraisers This Weekend!!

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

This Saturday, I’ll be emceeing a terrific effort to help the Childrens’ Wish Foundation at Greenfields Pub and Eatery (900 Greenbank Road.  The event, organized by Algonquin College students and the Events Management Program, is called BAND 2GETHER 4 A WISH – a “battle of the bands” between four talented groups who’ll be judged by a panel of local music industry professionals.  The winning band receives studio time at Blue Bear Sound.

Tickets are $15 for a night that will also feature raffles and balloon pops to help raise funds and, for the early birds, THE CHIXIE DICKS will play a warm-up set from 6-7pm.

It’ll be a particularly busy Saturday for myself, who’ll stick around to host the battle at Greenfields, and my drummer who scoots over to Sonny’s Bar & Grill (1119 Baxter Road) for a triple bill for Breast Cancer Research.

SAVE THE TATAS will feature THE DURTZ, GRAMPAPUNK and LOVE CIRCUS.  The night gets underway around 9 and will also include door prizes and 50/50 to help raise money.  Donations at the door gives eligibility for door prizes.   These folks are not only good friends of mine but are incredibly talented and guaranteed to entertain.

Hope you can attend either event this Saturday night.

Okay, so my buddy wanted to off-load his Sens tix in the previous post.  Now, I get THIS!!

Woody’s News Of the Weak 03-19-10

Allright, lots to go over this week so let’s jump right in.

About 50 left wing city councillors in Rome dropped their pants last week in protest of the Mayor’s 2010 municipal budget, suggesting that he “has reduced us to our underwear”.

The gentleman second from the left, however, is offering up an impressive stimulus package.

Also, from Rome this week, the world’s shortest man has died. China’s He PingPing was just 2 1/2 feet tall. Photo below of him taken with the world’s longest legs requires no caption.

On the topic of world records, a 400 pound New Jersey woman wants to get in the Guinness Book as the World’s Fattest Mom at 1,000 pounds. Below is her photo. Reducing the image size twice, regrettably, didn’t do any good.

fat.jpg

Someone, quick, take her kids away before she sits on EATS them.

On the topic of fat (Literary Note: In France, this is known as “segue with cheese”) and because British shoppers are immature, a supermarket is moving a product to the top shelf to curtail customer guffaw.

fatball.jpg

Inset is a product that they had a similar issue with just last year.

A Swiss watchmaker is marketing a $12,000 watch set in fossilized dinosaur dung.

….Great. Just what the world needs – another overpriced piece of sh#t watch!

This is actually a story from a week ago where a Zamboni fell through the ice at a resort in Keystone, Colorado.

The picture to the left tells the tale and is worth much more than words can ever offer.

The inset is from the opposite point of view. The story in the link presents a bit of history about the Zamboni as well a testament to its ruggedness and reliability.

And, here’s the tasty video of the magic moment….

Green Up and Get Your Irish On!!!!

It’s amazing how Benny Hill continues to be immortalized!

I also like this shot that surfaced over the weekend: Proof that the deal with  Conan and Leno is NEVER over!

Score 1 for Coco!

I’m JUST a “clown”. Doc’s JUST a “bingo caller”. Eric’s JUST a “bafoon”. Randall’s JUST a … well, on any given day and depending what buttons he pushes with his “One Minute Moore” commentaries…. “insert slag HERE”!! But, within each of us there is a daring element of seriousness and genuine outpouring of care for the community that binds us and those around us.

From my annual Christmas Hamper campaign for shelters and working poor, to Eric’s commitment to Operation Come Home for homeless youth, to Doc and Randall’s almost weekly and sometimes daily press for JUST measures to correct a public concern, it’s not JUST a way of “giving back” to a community (gawd, I HATE that reference) but, rather, a bi-product of being and LIVING in a community. If anyone ever thought these were, somehow, disingenuous and shallow measures for corporate gain, I can tell you we wouldn’t have been around this long.

But, daily, we’re seen as JUST a bunch blokes JUST goofing around and (hopefully) making people chuckle or smile on their morning commute. It’s what we’re paid to do but it’s not JUST we do.

jackson.jpg

Similarly, Kenneth Jackson is JUST a “reporter” for the Ottawa Sun. But last week an article of his struck me so deeply that I couldn’t let go of the imagery (“If this shelter has a rock bottom, I feel close enough to touch it.”) and, much like Eric The Intern’s homelessness campaign last month, I saw Jackson’s mission to write as not JUST doing something. It was doing a JUST thing. I urge you to read this article.

In the spirit of this article, we are all reminded that many folks, no matter what their class or station in life are, in many respects, JUST like us. We are also quickly assured in a tenuous economy that we could easily be 90 days of becoming JUST like them. Kenneth Jackson feels ever so fortunate that, for him, homelessness was JUST one week! For Eric The Intern, it was JUST one night. For both, … it was for a JUST intent.

JUST thought I’d share!
