Jeff Robichaud, News 91.9FM

Game 3 of the opening round series between the Moncton
Wildcats and Halifax Mooseheads is getting headed both on and off the ice.

The Mooseheads who hold a 2-0 series lead in the best of 7 weren’t
happy with the actions of the Wildcats when they sent in a tape of a high hit
by Konrad Abeltshauser on Patrick Delisle-Houde in game one of the series
resulted in a 2 game suspension for the big #10. So in retaliation Ross Johnson
has been suspended for 2 games for a checking to the head penalty from the late
stages of game 2.

So now it appears that any questionable high hit now is
going to be sent to the league for supplementary discipline.

The series shifts back to the Coliseum for games 3 and 4
tonight and tomorrow both are 7PM starts.

Patrick Downe of the Wildcats gives us his take on the first
2 games in Halifax and what they have to do for game 3 “We had a couple of
losses in Halifax but we just have to take game 3 as if it were the first game
and play a 1 game series from now on” He goes on to say that they have to keep
playing hard shift after shift. “We have to play with a winning attitude and
play with a lot of intensity and a lot of heart and desire”

“it was a tough start for us in game two they scored two
quick ones I think we responded well and played the hard the rest of the game “He
goes on to say they need to stay focused and play a completed game “the message
is we need to play a whole sixty minutes we can’t take any minute off”

Alex Saulnier took the morning skate and will be a game time
decision. Wildcats have been outscored by a 9-2 mark in the first 2 games and
if Saulnier can go tonight certainly will have a bit more of an offensive
spark.

Game 3 gets underway for puck drop at 7PM and we will be on
the air with the pre-game show starting at 6:30PM and you can listen online at www.news919.com or listen on the air at
91.9FM

The Moncton Wildcats looking to bouce back after dropping their last 2 games now after a 4-2 setback on Thursday night in Rimouski.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday afternoon at 5PM AST as they will battle with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Baie-Comeau.

The short staffed Wildcats have 5 call-ups on this trip Lindon Beckwith and Julian Belliveau Moncton Midget AAA, Thomas Flynn, Ross Johnson and Lance Pridham from Summerside Western Capitals MHL.

With Alex Saulnier Marek Hrivik Devon MacAusland Cameron McDonald and Patrick Downe (will take pre-game skate and is a game time decision) out of the line-up some young players have the opportunity to really step up their gam

Wasn’t for the lack of trying that the Wildcats came up short in Rimouski. The Wildcats 2-6 on the PP was very deceiving due to very weak calls on the part of the officials that took the any momentum that Wildcats were starting to build off of while on the PP.

Wildcats Captain Brandon Gormley has left the team for Calgary for Team Canada selection camp for the upcoming Word Junior Hockey Championship. So now a big hole will be needed to be filled on special teams for the Cats starting tomorrow.

Patrick Downe has made the trip with the team through Quebec but missed Thursday’s game and is doubtful for tomorrow.

Alex Saulnier out till about mid January (upper body) Devon MacAusland mid January (lower body) Cameron McDonald Concussion (no time frame) Marek Hrivik another week and Olivier D’Aoust serving a suspension.

Baie-Comeau is coming off a Shootout loss in Chicoutimi last night and didn’t get in till early this morning. The Cats look to get off to a quick start and take advantage of a tired Drakkar team.

Puck drop is set for 5PM AST and the pre-game show will kick off at 4:30PM AST on News 91.9FM or www.news919.com.

Allain Saulnier with a pair of goals and was the game’s first star offered up his thoughts on the game. “They are considered one of the top teams in the league and we knew it was going to be a tough game everyone came prepared and we played a full 60 minutes.

Jeff Robichaud, News 91.9FM

The Moncton Wildcats snapped a 3 game losing streak with a huge 3-2 road win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Centre 200 on Friday night.

Wildcats coming into tonight’s game gave up 19 goals in the last 3 games and needed a much better start as they were scored on in the first few minutes of each game.

The Wildcats would be the first on the board late in the 1st period when Patrick Downe jumps up in the play to make it a 2 on 1 rush with Christopher Lalonde he would slide a perfect pass to Downe going to the net who goes forehand backhand and slides it five hole on Alexandre Veronneau to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Lalonde and Devon MacAusland drawing the assists on Downe’s first of the year. The Wildcats would take a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes. Shots were 8-5 Moncton.

In the 2nd the Screaming Eagles would tie the game on the power play. Olivier Jodoin would tip home a point shot from Morgan Ellis and the game was tied at 8:17. Jonathan Brunelle also picking up an assist on the 4th of the year from Jodoin. Wildcats would take the lead on a power play opportunity of their own. Brandon Gormley would fire a slap shot from the point it would miss the net come off the back board and go right to Allain Saulnier standing to the right of the net and he would beat a scrambling Veronneau to restore the lead at 2-1. Patrick Delisle-Houde also with an assist on Allain Saulnier 5th of the season at 18:10. But before the end of the period the Screaming Eagles would cash in on the power play again. Will would come up with initial save but the puck would squeak through his legs and lay in the crease and Kyle Ferrell would pot it home and we were tied at 2. For Ferrell it would be his 4ht Denis Kindl and Jodoin collecting the assists and it would be tied after 40 minutes at 2. Cape Breton would hold the edge in territorial play in the second periods and outshot the Wildcats in the 2nd period by a 15-9.

In the 3rd the wildcats would cash in on some sloppy play on the puck. Denis Kindl wins the faceoff in Cape Breton territory. MacAusland would come off the will be the first on the puck and from the corner below the goal line would fire it to the front of the net and it deflects off the stick of Veronneau off his left leg and find the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. For MacAusland it was his 5th of the year. The Screaming Eagles would get an opportunity with 2.5 seconds left in the game face off deep in Moncton territory and Ron Choules couldn’t of drawn up a better play but the shot was fired wide of the net and the Wildcats come out of Cape Breton with the 2 points.

The Darcy Ashley show took the stage last night in Halifax at the Metro Centre as the Mooseheads defeated the Wildcats by a 7-1 margin.

For the Wildcats it’s their 3rd straight loss and it drops their record to 5-6 on the season and remains 2 pts behind the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for 1st in the Maritime Division.

It was another slow start for The Cats who just 0:26 seconds into the game the Mooseheads were up 1-0 on a scramble play in front of Roman Will Darcy Ashley gets his first on what turns out to be a big night for the second year forward from Prince Edward Island. Luca Ciampini and Nathan MacKinnion draw the assists. For Ashley it was his 4th of the season. At the 3:57 mark the Mooseheads would go up 2-0 with Gabriel Desjardins collecting a loose puck firing past Roman Will. Alexandre Grenier takes the puck in loses control of it Mathieu Boudreau would get a shot off Will makes the save and Desjardins would put home the rebound and quickly the Mooseheads are up 2-0. Before the end of the 1st the Wildcats would cut the deficit in half as Marek Hrivik fires home a wrist shot over the shoulder of Anthony Terenzio. It was a Power Play marker at 18:19. Patrick Delisle-Houde, one a 3 game point streak and Brandon Gormley with the assists. Shots after 20 minutes were 13-8 Moncton.

From the 2nd on it was all Mooseheads. Darcy Ashley’s big night would continue as he would counter for his second of the night shorthanded marker with assists going to Brent Andrews who sent Ashley in all alone and goes five hole on Roman Will and it was 3-1 4:21 into the 2nd period. Rookie Nathan MacKinnion would add to the Mooseheads lead with His 3rd of the year at 6:52. Luca Ciampini and Darcy Ashley drawing the assists. 4-1 for the Moose. They wouldn’t e done there as they would take a 5-1 lead on their first power play of the night and yet again Darcy Ashley at 13:53. Konrad Abeltshauser with the assist . Shots in the second period were 13-7 Halifax.

Just 2 goals both from the Mooseheads in the 3rd period with Ashley collecting his 4th of the evening. Another mad scramble in front of the Cats goal. Will made the initial save and Ashley fires home the rebound and a 6-1 lead. MacKinnion and Ciampini with the assists. Then Cameron Critchlow would round out the scoring with his first of the season as he fires a one-timer past Roman Will. Abeltshauser with the lone assist and it would round out the scoring.

Things got ugly at the end of the game with a couple of fights breaking out at the buzzer with 4 players receiving games misconducts. Delisle-Houde and Ryan Penny for the Wildcats and Brent Andrews and Sawyer Hannay. For The Mooseheads. Final shots were 32-29 Moncton.

Wildcats look to snap their 3 game slide on Friday when they travel to Sydney for a date with the Screaming Eagles at Centre 200. Game time is 7PM with the pre-game show starting at 6:30

Jeff Robichaud, News 91.9FM

The Moncton Wildcats look to continue on their solid play to make it 3 in a row when they play host to the Val-D’Or Foreurs tonight at the Moncton Coliseum.

Wildcats have been getting solid play from top to bottom in their line-up and starts on the back end where Roman Will has been solid in all 5 games so far this season with a 3-2 record and a solid 2.62 GAA and an .895 save %. The Blue line that is missing both Dan Milan and Brandon Gormley to NHL camps has played very well considering the experience they have. James Melindy has been solid in his second season with the Cats. He’s been averaging almost 20 minutes a game playing in all situations. Rookies Samuel Roussy and Cameron MacDonald have been great additions on the back end showing their poise and calmness with the puck. Myles McGurty who has only played in games 6 since training camp has seen himself starting to get more and more accustomed to the speed and phycialness of the QMJHL. That was no more evident than in the 3rd period against Halifax on Saturday night when Melindy was taken out of the game everyone had to pick up the slack and McGurty did a great job of shutting down Nathan MacKinnon late in the 3rd period.

Up front the Wildcats are getting the job done as well as of late. The usual Suspects of the Saulnier brothers Alex and Allain along with Patrick Delisle-Houde on the top line has countered for most of Monctons offence so far this season. Devon MacAusland, Brandon Shea and Marek Hrivik have shown some good chemistry early and have found the net on a few occasions so far. Shea is the only one on that line not to score yet but once he gets that monkey off his back he will have himself a solid season offensively. The 3rd and 4th lines for the Wildcats have also played solid in the first 5 games. Paying solid defensively and doing a great job of shutting down the other team’s top lines.

Val-D’or coming off a 3-2 victory on Tuesday in Bathurst is slowly getting reinforcements back from NL camps as well Cedrick Henley and Artem Sergeev have joined the team here in Moncton. It is un-certain if they will be in the Line-up tonight. They look to improve on their 2-3 start of the season.

I’ll be on the air with the Wildcats pre-game show tonight starting at 6:30 with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 PM
