Wildcats Snap 3 game slide

The Moncton Wildcats snapped a 3 game losing streak with a huge 3-2 road win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Centre 200 on Friday night.
Wildcats coming into tonight’s game gave up 19 goals in the last 3 games and needed a much better start as they were scored on in the first few minutes of each game.
The Wildcats would be the first on the board late in the 1st period when Patrick Downe jumps up in the play to make it a 2 on 1 rush with Christopher Lalonde he would slide a perfect pass to Downe going to the net who goes forehand backhand and slides it five hole on Alexandre Veronneau to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Lalonde and Devon MacAusland drawing the assists on Downe’s first of the year. The Wildcats would take a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes. Shots were 8-5 Moncton.
In the 2nd the Screaming Eagles would tie the game on the power play. Olivier Jodoin would tip home a point shot from Morgan Ellis and the game was tied at 8:17. Jonathan Brunelle also picking up an assist on the 4th of the year from Jodoin. Wildcats would take the lead on a power play opportunity of their own. Brandon Gormley would fire a slap shot from the point it would miss the net come off the back board and go right to Allain Saulnier standing to the right of the net and he would beat a scrambling Veronneau to restore the lead at 2-1. Patrick Delisle-Houde also with an assist on Allain Saulnier 5th of the season at 18:10. But before the end of the period the Screaming Eagles would cash in on the power play again. Will would come up with initial save but the puck would squeak through his legs and lay in the crease and Kyle Ferrell would pot it home and we were tied at 2. For Ferrell it would be his 4ht Denis Kindl and Jodoin collecting the assists and it would be tied after 40 minutes at 2. Cape Breton would hold the edge in territorial play in the second periods and outshot the Wildcats in the 2nd period by a 15-9.
In the 3rd the wildcats would cash in on some sloppy play on the puck. Denis Kindl wins the faceoff in Cape Breton territory. MacAusland would come off the will be the first on the puck and from the corner below the goal line would fire it to the front of the net and it deflects off the stick of Veronneau off his left leg and find the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. For MacAusland it was his 5th of the year. The Screaming Eagles would get an opportunity with 2.5 seconds left in the game face off deep in Moncton territory and Ron Choules couldn’t of drawn up a better play but the shot was fired wide of the net and the Wildcats come out of Cape Breton with the 2 points.
Final shots 37-21 for the Screaming Eagles. On the power play the Wildcats were 1 for 7 and The Screaming Eagles were 1 for 7. Stars 3rd Devon MacAusland MON 2nd Olivier Jodoin CAP and Roman Will MON.
Wildcats Goalie Roman Will who was named the game’s first star with a 35 save performance give me his take on the game tonight “I’m so happy because the last 3 games we didn’t play well today we were ready to win and played hard”
Will and the Wildcats return home to take on the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats were embarrassed by the Oceanic 7-2 last Saturday at the tail end of the 3 in 3. This time the Oceanic are the ones in the middle of a 3 in 3 that will wrap-up in Moncton on Sunday.
NOTES- Wildcats acquired Rudy Sulmonte from the OHL waiver wire and made his debut for the Wildcats tonight. He will make his home debut on Sunday against Rimouski.
