No wait, change that

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The other day I responded to the Young & Free Alberta question of what I would want for free for the rest of my life.  I said money.  I wanna change that.   Mountain Dew.   I had some the other day… that stuff is awesome!!!   Money you can get anyway… you have to pay for Mountain Dew.   So I want that free for the rest of my life.

What do YOU want for free for the rest of your life?  email me back at rosie.rock106@gmail.com

BILLY TALENT! The Interview

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Deep into the bowels of the Enmax, Rock Reward Club member Stephanie Gray ventured in pursuit of one of Canada’s hottest groups - Billy Talent!  It was the afternoon of March 13th, 2010.  Her mission:  to interview the band, free of charge, because I was a) too lazy to do it and b) too cheap to pay.  Here is your exclusive interview with Billy Talent!

Freeness

One thing… for free… for the rest of your life.  What would it be?   Thats the question this week for Young and Free Alberta, where someone in our province between the ages of 17 and 25 can be the spokester for Servus Credit Union.

One thing free for the rest of my life?   Money.  Can I answer that?  That’s what I’d like but something tells me thats NOT what they’re looking for for an answer.

Tell me… and you’ll be automatically entered to win a $25 iTunes gift card.

Remember that job search a year ago when Australia offered the position to live on a secluded island and do nothing but blog and boast about how awesome everything is?  It was deemed “The World’s Greatest Job.”

Well, consider this “Alberta’s Greatest Job,” for anyone between 17 and 25.  Rather than sitting on an island where your only friend is a volleyball, you’ll venture through Alberta, blogging and posting videos, collecting a pay cheque, driving a company car, making contacts throughout the province for future employment.

That is easily the 2nd best offer you’ll get this spring.  The first best offer is a $25 itunes card from us.  And you DON’T have to be between 17-25 for this one.  Just answer this weeks question:  If you could have one thing free for the rest of your life, what would it be?”

To win the giftcard, submit your answer to vince.rock106@gmail.com or rosie@gmail.com.

To get “Alberta’s Greatest Job” go to youngfreealberta.com and become not just a voice, but THE voice of your generation.

Well, Japan got it’s Earthquake, as predicted by… fish.Meet the Oarfish.  This creature is a true, authentic sea serpent.  Up to 50 feet in length, they live 1000m (3300 feet) deep in the sea which is why we never see these creatures… until they die.  That’s when they come to shore, much like they did in this video.Since November, 19 have appeared on the shores of Japan which put everyone in a panic.  It’s believed that when these deep sea creatures appear en masse it’s a sign that an earthquake is coming.Mere days after learning of this “superstition” was reported worldwide, an earthquake occurred off the coast of Japan shaking buildings in Tokyo.  Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.  But will there be more to come?  Keep watching the shoreline for oarfish.Personally, these types of discoveries fascinate me.  To learn more about oarfish, visit wikipedia to start, the googlin’.

Do you happen to have a Snoopy electric toothbrush?  Anyone?  You see, my wife in a competition to retrieve 60 items - a scavenger hunt - to win not just a big prize but perhaps the biggest of all big prizes… to have a special dinner with a celebrity - Galen Weston of Loblaws foods (Superstore, and what have you).  I know.  Outstanding.  So take a look at the list below and identify any items you can contribute (loan) to the cause.  Everything will be returned in the exact same, if not better, condition that it was donated.Quebec Nordiques Hockey Memorabilia;  Expo ‘67 postcard;  ’88 Calgary Olympics key chain;  cow bell;  Backstreet Boys doll;  matches from a wedding dated before 1999;  a tie dyed shirt;  a Farrah Fawcett poster;  a ticket stub dated before 1985 from a rock concert;  a 1973 ‘Mountie’ quarter; wooden yo-yo;  a souvenir from a Royal Wedding;  Johnny Cash 8 Track Tape;  a metal slinky;  a K-Tel record;  ”The Fonz” memorabilia;  any Mr. Dressup memorabilia;  a conch shell;  wooden snow shoes. If you can believe it, we have none of these things in our household.  However, I did at one time own a Johnny Cash 8 track tape but ditched it for cassette technology in 1978.If you are able to help either contact me via vince.rock106@gmail.com or call the show between 5:30 - 9am Mon-Fri.Troy “the Vince” Vincent

$25 for iTunes… Win It Right Now!

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

$25 for iTunes.  Details in a minute.  First, let’s set the Delorian to the early 90s.

When I was 17, the economy wasn’t strong.  Even minimum waged job-postings had a giant stack of applicants.  And that’s how I ended up working at a hair salon.  Turned out to be a good gig, just hanging out with cute hairdressers all day, but I only earned $5 an hour.  I did, however, receive free haircuts so that saved me tens of dollars over the course of that summer.

What I didn’t receive was a computer; not even an iPhone.  And that’s exactly what you can get by becoming the new Spokester for Servus Credit Union.  Go to:  www.youngfreealberta.com

AND… you can win $25 for itunes right now just by submitting a few sentences on our question this week.  “What does it mean to be a part of generation Y?”

Personally, I have no idea.  I’m a member of generation X-Wing.  That’s why I won’t win, but you can by emailing your comments to vince.rock106@gmail.com.

Submissions will be bragged about on air; your 15 seconds of fame… plus $25 for iTunes.

Go.  Write.  Email.  Win.

Win Stuff

If I was 17-25, I’m pretty sure I would have applied for the Young & Free Alberta Spokester job.  It combines the beauty of traveling around the province, and at the same time being able to work from home.

This week we’re talking about Social Media and Aaron says “Social Media is the youth of today building a voice.”  Well said.
