Great Halloween weekend

Monday, October 31st, 2011

I hope everyone had a fun halloween weekend.

I didn’t have any plans at all until Saturday night and then it turned into a three day run around town as Robin, as in Batman’s sidekick.

We were sitting around at home with some friends watching the Jet’s game on Saturday night, when Jay, who arrived in a Jedi costume, asked if we had any plans. When I said we didn’t and didn’t have any costumes, Stace jumps up and returns with a box exclaiming that we did indeed have costumes. Next thing I know I’m in Robin’s tights and we’re out at the bars with the Jedi and Stace as a cute/hot 60′s hippy.

Next day, Sunday I find myself walking around Comic-con in the Robin suit getting my picture taken all over the place. You have to understand, I was referring to it as ‘low-end’ Robin, as it wasn’t the best Robin you could see, but people seemed to get a laugh out of it. I thought I would be incognito, until I walked in the convention center and the first person who knew me said ‘Hi Tom’….ha ha

Today the staff had all planned to wear costumes, so for the third day in a row I arrived as Robin, or the ‘Little boy’ wonder, as some referred to me, when they saw my crotch….ha ha

It was a blast! The costume is now back in the box so no more children will be terrorized for another year.

Hope everyone has fun taking the kids out and handing out the loot at the door tonight.

Don’t forget we have that major concert announcement tomorrow morning between 7 and 730am.

Hear from you then.

Big Test for the Bombers

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Friday night at CanadInns Stadium should be quite interesting for different reasons.  The Blue and Gold have an important game against the Toronto Argonauts ( a team that always seem to cause us problems).  They are an opportunistic team that seems to hang around in games against us and are a hard-hitting team that always seems to injure some of our key players.  The Bombers are coming off a big win against Montreal and can’t overlook this Toronto team as we focus in on a home game for the Eastern Final.

It’s also being billed as the “final regular season game at the stadium” with alot of festivities planned, including an amazing tribute video, a commemorative ticket for all the fans and some Bomber legends in attendance.  It will be a big celebration on Friday night for all fans, since all of us will have alot of memories from past games, concerts and events.  Let’s hope it’s capped off with a win for the home team!

Join us on the Tom and Joe show tomorrow for an interview with Matt Dunigan and your chance to go to the game for free!

Go Bombers!

Have a great day!

Joe.

Running into celebs all over town

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Yesterday was an interesting one. I was told I just missed William Shatner leaving as I arrived at my the gym, the Assiniboine Athletic Club in the Fort Garry Place. Yes the 80 year old was getting in a workout before his show last night at the concert hall.

Usually when I see someone well known there, they’re staying at the Fort Garry Hotel. There’s a hint for autograph hounds. Maybe catch him in the lobby, and save yourself the cash you’ll have to dole out to get his autograph at ComicCon this weekend.

Btw, others that have worked out at the same place while in town include Montell Williams, in town for a special event last week, Rene Zellwieger(sp?) in town for a movie shoot. Same with Eric Roberts, Tom Cavannah, the guy who played Ed on the show of the same name and several others.

Last night Stace and I went out for a beer with a buddy and Milt Stegall comes up to the table to laugh about the interview we just did with him last week about his induction to the Hall of Fame.(you can find the link to it on the Tom and Joe page on the citi website) I didn’t think Milt was coming in until Friday’s game, where he’ll be one of the honorees, but he said he was in to speak at a financial company event. That makes sense, since Milt and all those who know him swear his real name is Milt Frugal! Always a class act and a gentleman to everyone who approached him for a pic last night.

Now it’s off to our monthly Vip lunch at Hu’s. Would love to have lunch with all of you sometime. Just enter in the Vip club on the website.

Tonight we gather all the people who “Lived with Tom and Joe” at BP Kenaston to hand out the $10,000 to the winner and share some great stories of what it was like to drag us around for the past six weeks. We’ll have pics and video up on our website and facebook page tomorrow.

Talk to you in the morn

Live with Tom and Joe pics

Monday, October 24th, 2011

You gotta check out the Citi facebook page. All the pics from Live with Tom and Joe are coming in and we’re updating it all day. Lots of cool pics!! Hope you got some pics of your own to win a trip to Vegas. We’ll make that draw this Friday morn.

Another Jets game tonight. Love it!! Can we start a winning streak here?? I think so. The guys are just flying out there. I don’t care what the stats are, this is some of the most exciting hockey the NHL has seen since last year’s playoffs. With our won team now, it feels like every game is a playoff game!!

The same goes with the Bombers! If you were at the game last Sat. did you leave early?? Be honest, many did…..ha ha. Final game at the stadium this friday….should be just rockin’!! Hopefully the foundation holds out one last time with all the stompin and cheerin!!

here from you in the morn

Various stuff on Tom’s mind

The new $50 garbage charge!! Now that’s garbage!!

No more Mormar! Say it three times fast. Have some fun with it…ha ha. We asked on the Citi facebook page who should be the next target and some said Sam Katz! Guess they really don’t like that garbage levy.

The Leg started a new session today…it will go til Nov 1st! That’s about 7 buisness days if you don’t count them leaving early on Friday. Boy, they should get a lot done. Next session in the spring!! Nice winter break if you can get it.

Blackberry, yeah it’s Canadian, but I need to reach people and vise versa. I’ll stick with my Iphone. It’s only the 3, but it get’s the job done. I’ll wait til the rush ends to look at the 4s.

If your kids have been bugging you about a certain concert this weekend, we’ll have a shot at a solution for you tomorrow morning. Listen in for details and check out the Citi Facebook page after 6am.

It’s a 4play weekend special. Get your 4 favorite pics into Frank through the ‘music features’ icon on our webpage. Looking forward to hearing your pics!!

Occupy Wall Street/Winnipeg……..don’t get what they think will actually come out of all of this?? And it’s getting too bloody cold at night to camp anyway!

Have a great night. Go Jets!!

Hear from you in the morning.

K.K.’s “Sporting” Thoughts….

Monday, October 17th, 2011

I am certainly not an expert when it comes to sports like hockey or football.  Fan?  Yes !  Expert?  No !!  That being said however….I still like to share my opinion, (both on and off the air) on what I “think” may be wrong with a team.  Not that it’s rocket science mind you….

The Winnipeg Jets are sadly lacking on the power-play front.  What is the stat now?  O for 25?  (or something close to that)  Again….no genius remark….just an observation that all can see.

The Bombers?  Well….think they’ve got a couple of problems lately.  Where is the “O” line?  And, what happened to Swaggerville?  If we have any hope of getting beyond the first round of the playoffs, (or beating Montreal for that matter) these guys gotta pick it up a notch.  Buck, (my boy) isn’t being protected enough….and that’s not good.  We need him healthy !  And our punter needs a little work….

Listen to me……..better quit while I’m ahead.

Go Jets Go !!!

Go Bombers Go !!

What a Day!!

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Sunday was such an unbelievable day for all of Winnipeg and Manitoba!

Have you ever felt that much energy and positive vibes from everyone you saw?

I sure haven’t! It was so much fun walking through downtown early in the afternoon and then hitting the Convention Center for the game and the social afterward. Three of my sons and many great friends joined us for a rockin time from 3pm right through the end of Blue Rodeo’s set at around 11pm. Thank God Monday was a holiday!!

Everywhere you went there were high-fives from everyone wearing their Jets gear. Even the cops patrolling inside and out front and on the streets were lovin it! Although Joe didn’t believe me, I did share a high-five with one of Winnipeg’s finest outside the convention center!

Sure the Jets lost the game, but with all the hype leading up to the first puck drop for an NHL game here in 15 years, and all the pressure on the squad to come up with a win after a 9 day layoff, it was almost too much to ask. No one really seemed to mind, and hundreds more joined us at the convention center after the game to carry on the party as Blue Rodeo really rocked the stage all night.

Every game day is going to be special, but this one will be remembered forever by all of us, no matter where we celebrated the return of our beloved Jets!

As always, thanks so much for tuning in and remember, we’ll have a chance for you to win tickets to the ‘hockey games’ all season long!

Catch you in the morning with Joe, KK and Bubba.

Winnipeg is on Fire!

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

What a great time to be a Winnipegger/Manitoban! The excitement surrounding the return of the Jets and all the celebrations  leading up to Sunday’s season opener is something I can’t remember ever happening before. I haven’t spoken to one person who won’t be watching that game somewhere on Sunday.

The NHL party at the Forks today is going to be a blast in the sunshine! Listen to Shadoe this afternoon for a chance to win the hottest ticket in town to Sunday’s game!! Better yet, get down to the forks and join him and the rest of us, as we show the world what a fantastic place we live in!

We’re back on the map big time and we’re going to make the best of it!

On Sunday, I’ll be at the Convention Center watchin the game and partying at the After Burner social! Hope to see many of you there! But wherever you are have a great time!!
