What a Game!
February 22nd, 2012 by tomandjoe
Can you remember that last time your emotions ran that high and that low in the same minute as the last 60 sec of the Jets-Philly game last night?
I think the best games the Jets have had all season have been the 4 against Philly, just for the excitement level alone!
In the end, after getting over the devastating tie with 9 seconds left and the overtime loss, we did come away with an important point in the standings, giving us two different avenues into the playoffs. Being tied with Toronto and Florida with 20 games left is huge! At the very least, the Jets have given us some exceptionally entertaining hockey since coming back home this season.
Btw, we’ll have Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek on the show tomorrow morn with all the trade rumours around the league including any potential movement on the Jets of course.
The Bachelor Canada hits Winnipeg for auditions tomorrow at the Fort Garry Hotel from 11am to 8pm. If you’re a single guy, there could be worse places to hang out tomorrow. Grab a beer in the lobby bar and check it out. We’ll have someone from the production on the show in the morn telling us all about the behind the scenes stuff.
Also on tomorrow’s show, we’ll catch up with Jenny Jones at the Scotties tourny in Red Deer as she goes for another Canadian title.
Really sad news about Cal Murphy. He sure was responsible for bringing a lot of exciting Bomber football to us for a lot of years and, most importantly, Grey Cups!!
Graham James gets sentenced today. Hope they find a nice hole to put him into to rot.
The Oscars are Sunday night. Each member of the morning show will pick our winners in the top categories. Guess who gets the most correct and Bubba will have a nice movie/dinner prize pack for you. Check the website for details tomorrow.
Our new addition Nesta is an avid and savy social media user, so check out all her postings and tweets etc on the Citi and morning show twitter accounts and the Citi Facebook page. She posts some really cool stuff every morning!
Ok, hear from you in the morning…

Sex vs. Facebook
February 21st, 2012 by tomandjoe
Is your online life keeping you from having a sex life? Instead of getting it on, 72 percent of people spend their time before falling asleep updating or checking their friends’ Facebook status. In fact, 20 percent of people surveyed said they stopped halfway through sex to check when they heard their text message ding!
It’s not just sex either, their sleep is suffering too. The same people reported only 6 hours and 21 minutes sleep per night. Being exposed to bright light from computer and cellphone screens in bed delays your brain and body’s ability to get to sleep. People can’t get to sleep as quickly as they should, so aren’t getting that extra hour and 39 minutes to hit the recommended quota of 8 hours of sleep per night.
What’s your before bed routine? Are you on your phone until the bitter end?

The Bachelorette: Cougar Edition
February 14th, 2012 by tomandjoe
Valentine’s Day! Whether you love it or hate it, it’s a great excuse for a date night and maybe even some wild & crazy loving. This morning, Tom, Joe and I played cougar cupid and tried to make two fantasies come true this Valentine’s by finding our feline some man meat.
Arrayl was chosen, at random, from our amazing pool of wanna be Winnipeg cougars. (Though, she says she’s more of a panther. She hunts for sport.) She’s a body builder and a hot, open minded country gal who’s looking for a man who can keep up with her.
Bachelor #1: Bryce is a carpenter. He likes snowshoeing, snowboarding & soft ball.
Bachelor #2: Richard is a tradesman. He likes golf, ultimate golf, baseball & outdoor sports
Bachelor #3: Jordan works in a body shop. He likes classic cars, video games & beer drinking.
We sequestered our lucky three boy toys, sight unseen, in our board room so Arrayl could ask them the important, telling questions to decide which of the youngsters might make a try on the hunting grounds.
-
If she’s a cougar, what animal would they like to be and why:
Bachelor #1: An antelope…because he’d be chased and eated by cougars
Bachelor #3: A liger – half lion, half tiger. Unusual but awesome. -
If she was Santa and they were a little boy on her lap, what would they ask for?
Bachelor #2: A tamdem bicycle, so they could enjoy it together.
Bachelor #1: Well, I am still a little boy!
Arrayl asked 10 questions. The guys got to ask her one each. Give a listen to the full “Bachelorette: Cougar Edition” here. Then it was up to Arrayl to decide who she was talking to the Jets vs. the New York Islanders for a Valentine’s date….
You guys were all over the place over which Bachelor she should pick. One liked #1 for what kind of car he said best describes him; Norine, on Facebook, said #2 ”is the most sweetest, caring and amazing guy!! He knows how to treat his ladies right!!” Actually, #2 was a big front runner with both Arrayl’s daughter, Sam, and best friend, Laurie, who called to say she HAD to pick him.
In the end, Arrayl went with her gut instinct and chose Bachelor #1, our 24-year-old, 6’6″ carpenter.
Ttomorrow morning, just after 7, we’re going to find out how the Jets date goes. If it went well, she could take Bryce out again, to dinner at Brooklynn’s Bistro, the Deep Purple concert and maybe even spend the night in one of Mariaggi’s Theme Suites! If there just isn’t that spark, well, there’s two other bachelors to choose from.

Introducing…Nesta Matthews
January 25th, 2012 by tomandjoe
If you’ve been listening to 92 CITI FM the last couple weeks, you may have heard a new voice in the mornings with Tom and Joe. That’s me!

I’m Nesta. Just made the move to Winnipeg from Kelowna, BC and, while I may have picked a miserable week to do it (-45 with the windchill? Yikes!) I’m loving the city now that I can go outside without my nose hairs freezing together. Checked out the ice skating down at the Forks, screamed my heart out at the Jets game and even visited Louie Riel’s grave at Saint Boniface Cathedral. Definitely enjoying the amazing restaurants here in Winnipeg and can say that the people I’ve met have earned the Friendly Manitoba slogan.
So, as I get to know you and this fantastic city, I thought I’d share a little about me.
My name is actually Nesta. It’s not short for anything; it’s just Nesta. Some of the musically astute might recognize it as being Bob Marley’s first name, but the truth is my Mom read it in a cowboy book called Arizona Ames and fell in love. (Nothing good happens to the Nesta character though, as I found out when I was 10 and read the book.)
Now, WHAT am I? I’m a music junkie, foodie and red wine addict, to the point that I married a chef that specializes in food & wine pairing. Talk about handy! I’m a travel nut; grew up with my dad a pilot in the airforce and just got used to it, I guess. If I could have one super power, I’d breathe underwater but instead I settle for scuba diving.
Actually, I have WAY too many hobbies because I just like to learn weird, random things: belly dancing, theatre and I play and announce roller derby, under my derby name of Lola Coaster. I also like to whitewater raft and knit (though not at the same time,) love gardening and home renos and miss owning a motorcycle. (My parents are, however, extremely relieved.)
The two great loves of my life are my Black Lab/Border Collie named Blue and my fella, the Wine Chef. (And, trust me, he understands it’s not a slight to be lumped in with my dog. She’s pretty awesome.)
Looking forward to getting to know you better too. If you’re on Twitter or Facebook, I’d love to connect. You can also find me on Tumblr and I blog. But, of course, the very best way of all is just to tune in 6-10am, Mondays through Fridays on 92 CITI FM!
Rockin in 2012
January 17th, 2012 by tomandjoe
Looking forward to a great year hear at 92!!
Had a fantastic holiday with Stace and friends down in Mexico. Way too many cervasas!! My white Irish skin is a pink reddish hue but should be back to it’s normal colour in about 48 hours.
It was fun watching the World Jrs and Jets games in small bars in Mexico. Every place has a satellite to accomodate all the Canadian hockey fans. In fact a lot of the bars are owned by Canadians. Now there’s a retirement idea..ha ha.
But I always crave getting back here and on the air with Joe, Bubbs and now Nesta.
Great to be back…….let’s get going on 2012!! We’ve got lots in store for you.
Hear from you in the morn
Tom
Happy New Year!
January 6th, 2012 by tomandjoe
Hope you had a happy holiday with family and friends and all the best to you in 2012!
Looking forward to a solid weekend of sports with the Jets in Buffalo (hopefully getting their first win of the new year) and the start of the NFL playoffs. It’s Wild Card Weekend!
Here’s my picks:
The Houston Texans should win their first playoff game against Cinncinatti. I expect this one to be close with the surprising Bengals. However, Cinncinati hasn’t beaten a team this year that has a better record than them.
I like New Orleans to win at home over Detroit. Should be a lot of scoring in this game.
I think the NY Giants beat Atlanta in the early game on Sunday and Pittsburgh (even with a banged up QB) to beat Tim Tebow and Denver.
Good luck and have a great weekend!
Joe.
Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and everything else you may celebrate this time of the year.
It has been a fantastic year here at 92Citi-fm and we have you to thank for that. We really appreciate how loyal everyone has been to us for so long now. We love doing the show for you every morning and we have great plans for 2012!
Here’s to a bright rockin’ 2012 to everyone!

Weekend Sports Picks
December 16th, 2011 by tomandjoe
Alright, we are getting close to the end of the NFL regular season, so here we go with my picks for Sunday…
NYG, GB, NWO and NE are my locks.
My upset of the week is Seattle winning in Chicago. They don’t usually fair well in cold weather games, but they did knock off the Giants in New York this year.
I also like Houston, Tennessee, Arizona and Cinncinati.
In some coin flip games, I am taking Oakland at home to beat Detroit. Philly, in a close one against the Jets and Baltimore over San Diego.
Nothing on the board right now for the Miami/Buffalo game and Pittsburgh in San Francisco.
Bonus pick: Winnipeg Jets to beat Anaheim and spoil the return of Teemu in front of his family… It will be nice to see Selanne get the applause, but when it’s all said and done the Jets will win.
Have a great weekend and good luck!
Joe.
It’s Dec 6th! Yikes!
December 6th, 2011 by tomandjoe
How did that happen? Got to get to that Christmas shopping stat!
The cold has hit too, but that was one nice long ride of great weather for months now. Only 4 months and we should be right back at the mild temps. Still can’t find that box of gloves and toques though. It’s gotta be around home somewhere!
Two more days to go and we fire up our Toy Mountain for the Salvation Army campaign with Scotia bank again! I love this time of year when we gather with all of you to make sure all kids get a Christmas present. We’re set up at Polo park this year and it all starts at 6am Thurs morning. We’ll broadcast live from center court all day, each day, Thursday through Sat. Really hope to see you down there with cash and toys as we always do.
Btw, saw where a grade 2 teacher in Florida and a news anchor in Chicago both told kids there was no Santa!! What? Where are they getting their info? The world we now live in is full of misinformation, but don’t mess with Santa. He’s alive and well and ready to rock Christmas eve!
What do you think of the NHL realignment? Looks pretty good for us Jet’s fans with every team coming to play at the MTS Center at least once a season! Should be great game tonight against Stanley Cup Champ Bruins!!
Brett Farve to return with the Bears? Just rumours at the moment, but I think it would be great!!
What did you think of the Hangover 2? I thought it sucked! But since it already has made over 500 Million they’re writing #3 right now.
Ok gotta go find those gloves and get some Christmas shoppin done. Catch you in the morning.
