Tom on Monday Sept 10/12

September 10th, 2012 by tomandjoe

What more can you say about the Banjo Bowl? If I’m Justin Palardy, our field goal kicker, I’m even more pissed than us fans that Coach didn’t think the odds were really good that I would have nailed a 43 yarder with the wind at my back! Enough said!

Had a great time on the weekend at the Manyfest street festival on Broadway. I don’t usually drink much wine, but I sure did on Sat night when Stace and I hit up the Wine Festival part of the event. At a buck a shot,(they like to call them ‘tasters’, but let’s face it, it’s a ‘shot’)  it didn’t take long before I started thinking I not only really liked wine, but could tell the difference of one grape from another. It also didn’t take me long to realize that I didn’t know what the hell I was talking about! Had a blast afterward watching Harlequin on the street stage with Stace and 3 of the boys who joined us. Great to see George and the guys still rockin it!

The Goldeyes are gunning for the league championship starting tomorrow night. If you’ve heard me refer to baseball, you know I’m not a big fan of the pace of the game, but I’m all there for a Championship!! Actully went to 2 games this year and had a blast, and I’m ‘all in’ for the excitement of a shot at the title!! Listen tomorrow morning for Goldeyes GM Andrew Collier and The Big Johnston for your chance to win some tics to Tues or Wed’s games this week. Great weather forecast as well!!

Hey check out the Voodoo Experience trip we have lined up for you to win in our VIP club on this site.

Keep rockin and catch you tomorrow morn!

Random Thoughts from Tom

September 5th, 2012 by tomandjoe

Had a fantastic time in Vegas with Stace over the Labour day weekend. Short trip, little sleep and loved every minute of it. No naked Harry sitings, but lots of half naked other people.  Sure glad to be back to Canadian beer though!

Didn’t catch the Bombers Labour Day Disaster down there. Was going to, but ran into some crazy random people from Cleavland, connected on the Rock and Roll hall of fame thing and ended up partying all afternoon. Found out the score afterward and was glad I made the right choice. I’m on the side of looking for a new GM too, but still will get the troops together this Sunday to watch the “Ban-Joe Bowl”

With NFL firing up tonight, don’t forget to enter our NFL pool every week!! We also put a poll up on the Tom and Joe page. We want to know who you think will win the Superbowl.  Pitts fan Joe says the Steelers, so we thought we’d ask for a few other opinions…ha ha.

Separatists  are back in power in Quebec after yesterday’s election, but with only a minority will be putting that crazy notion on the back burner for quite some time I’m sure. And congrats to Brian Pallister the new Provincial Conservative leader. That’s gonna be an uphill battle but should make it interesting again.Selinger has to look up now at the 6 foot 8ter in the Leg. He’s not going to like that!

Did you hear about the teacher down in the States in PA who showed up drunk on the first day of school. I guess he just couldn’t face it for another year! Can’t say I blame him. Could you do that gig? I sure couldn’t!

New Orleans dealt with Issac, but could you handle the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans at Halloween? It is going to be epic. Enter in the VIP club!!

Clinton speaks at the Dem National Convention tonight in Charlotte.  Watch closely as those wandering eyes of his troll for chicks in the audience. New drinking game each time you spot him wink!!

Back at it from 6 to 10 in the morning. Catch you then!

Heading in Labour Day Weekend with Tom

August 31st, 2012 by tomandjoe

Greatest clip ever…Clint’s speech last night at the RNC….it’s up on the Tom and Joe page……it’s a must watch!!

Labour Day Classic…….Bombers by 10 points!!

I love that story of the Senator and his young “crazy” wife. Nesta and I have disagreed about the ‘crazy’ part until it was revealed she threatened to slit his throat when he felt ill on the plane. I think I win that arguement.

Who do you believe in the NHL/NHLPA negotiations? I wouldn’t trust either side. Just hope they get something done and get playing hockey in October. We’re pinning our hopes on Fehr’s brother Steve being the linchpin that seals the deal.

Paralympics…..awesome, awesome atheletes!!

Have a fantastic long weekend!!

Catch you on Tues morn

Mon. Aug 27th…Tom here

Random thoughts:

Opinion seems to be split almost right down the middle regarding the Bombers firing Lapo. Personally I don’t see the point, especially after a game where he had the troops looking pretty good against the league’s best team at least until the last minute. But maybe too many of those last minutes added up to the last straw for Bomber management. Will be interesting to see how the team responds in Regina. I predict a win based solely on the fact that new coach Burke is the first Bomber head coach in five years to have a full head of hair. It’s gotta be worth something. Btw, let us know what you think with the poll we have up in the VIP section of our website.

Lance Armstrong. Tested over 500 times in his career and never once positive for banned substances. I don’t understand the witch hunt. The guy was simply the best until you give me concrete proof otherwise!

Back to school next week. I always hated that!

Looking forward to new seasons of some of my favorites like Big Bang and Modern family.

Too bad about the NHL/NHLPA negotiations. The season won’t start on time and who knows when it will. It was so much fun having the Jets back and 82 cold winter nights to get together for a game. Let’s the dispute doesn’t drag on too long.

Prince Harry…..hilarious. Young guy having fun in Vegas. Not the first time that has ever happened!! But oh yeah….he’s the 3rd in line to become a King, and should have been more careful in ensuring phones etc were not around. But wait for the party when he does become King. No one to scold him then!!

Catch you in the morning.

Tom

Most have us have been through at least one messy breakup. And sometimes it seems like a great idea to go out drinking with your friends to deal with that breakup.

But, when you combine the two you sometimes have the oh-so-brilliant idea to give that ex a drunken phone call. Maybe it’s to tell them how much better off you are. Maybe it’s for a late night booty call. Maybe it’s to beg them to take you back.

No matter what your reasons are, your hammered attempt at a sane, rational conversation usually comes out more like a slurring, cursing crazy person.

That’s why you need this: http://dontdial.com/

Got a number you shouldn’t drunk dial? This app will lock that number out for up to 24 hours, letting you sleep off the stupid. Can also be applied to friends phones to make sure their break-up doesn’t ruin your night out either. Or maybe to the hot chick you think you’ve got a better chance with if your buddy doesn’t call ;)

Hey it’s Tom blogging!!

August 16th, 2012 by tomandjoe

First of all with Nesta doing such a cool job with all of the social media for our show I honestly forgot about our blog….ha ha. Nesta comes back from holidays and says to me “You could have blogged when I was away”. Well then, here I am!

Random Thoughts:

Bombers kick ass tonight. Talked to lots of people who don’t think so. I just think Elliot gives them the energy they need to get fired back up and start knocking off  ‘W’s to get back in the race in the east!

Going to go to Polo Park to Emcee the our premiere of Expendables 2 tonight. But I will be honest with you. I really want to see the movie, but I’ll have to leave before it starts to catch the Bomber game. I’ll catch it another time, but since I’ve been one of those guys screaming to put Elliot in at quarterback, I gotta gotta watch the game!!

See all the back to school ads already? I was one of those who always hated school and dreaded the last week of summer. To this day I feel so great that I don’t have to go back to school. What a role model eh? All my kids are grown now though, so no need to worry. In fact one of my kids, Riley is really looking forward to getting back to his honors degree of study in physics! Yeah I have a son that smart….ha ha.

Romney or Obama…..I’m still an Obama guy……if only cuz the guy is like a real human being….I’m not sure where the parts came from that they put together to make Romney.

Loved every minute of watching the Olympics! Sad to see it end, just like when you were a kid and Christmas week was over. We had Desire Scott on this week and she was a total sweetheart! Oh, and I think the ‘hoser’ jean jackets at the closing ceremonies were perfect for our Canadian team.

Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management? I thought it was average. Vehicle for Charlie one liner’s. Formula stuff that will probably have a good run if only because it’s not that challenging at all on any level.

10 digit dialing….I haven’t remembered once to dial 204!!

Hey I forgot how much fun blogging can be. I’ll definitely be back here soon with more random thoughts. I just have to wait til Nesta tells me to do it again!

Catch you in the morning!

Things I Learned on my Cross-Canada Road Trip

August 14th, 2012 by tomandjoe

I had a couple good friends get married on back-to-back weekends in side-by-side provinces and thought it would be a great idea to drive all the way to Alberta, then BC and then home. Other than learning the peaches are late in Kelowna this year, here’s some wisdom I gleamed on the way:

(1) I don’t get cell phone coverage anywhere in northern Saskatchewan, except for a 10 minute radius around Saskatoon and Yorkton.
(2) Alberta drivers – no matter what province you’re in – find the concept of “Stay right except to pass” very confusing. They just sit in that passing lane with their cruise on and nuts to you.
(3) Flag people at construction sites will talk your ear off, so long as you don’t hit on them or swear at them. This is according to them. I didn’t curse out or pick up any construction workers during my trek. Honest.
(4) A secondary highway that was a good idea in Alberta is not such a brilliant idea once you hit Saskatchewan. Know how to drive on unexpected gravel?
(5) There are a whole heck of a lot less anti-abortion billboards on Hwy 16 than on Hwy 1. Seriously Hwy 1, what’s up with that?!?
(6) Drinking your doctor recommended 8+ glasses of water/day makes for frequent bathroom pit stops. For me. Not for my husband, The Camel.
(7) A family of racoons is even cuter in real life than they are on the internet. They’re not going to hurry up just because you’re a car though.
(8) When a traffic sign says to slow to 70 around a corner in BC, they mean slow the hell down to 70!

But, beyond almost watching a truck slingshot off a mountain, it was a great drive. Beautiful sunshine, windows down and music cranked. Glad to be back home in Winnipeg though. 46 hours of driving and over 4200km later, I think I owe my car an oil change!
