Tom On April 27th

April 27th, 2010 by Tom

Just a heads up, we continue to develop our Tom and Joe page on the website here to include just about anything we might write about here, but in hopefully a much more entertaining fashion. Bubba, our new intern, has been working feverishly to up grade the look of the page and make it more user friendly. It’s looking pretty good already. Check it out.

In the near future, look for Joe and I to upload video blogs to the same Tom and Joe page which will eventually replace this blog space here.

In the meantime, it’s off to the Grape Stomping event for Special Olympics, as part of the Wine Festival, tonight at Blaze Bistro in the Delta downtown. It gets underway at 7ish and tics are $25 at the door. Wine tasting etc and lots of fun.

Have really been enjoying our extended show which now goes to 10am each day. One more hour to have a blast.

Every morning we’re pulling out the Tom Joe Ticket Machine at 720am…..anyone can win tics to all the great shows and events we’re bringing to Winnipeg. Stand by and get ready to call and win!

Up ahead, May Long Weekend I’ll be out at Grand Beach Entertainment Center, MCing Festival Manitoba “Triubute to Rock”….3 days of the best Classic Rock Cover bands in the world. Everyone from Aerosmith, Journey, ZZTop, Black Sabbath and even Springsteen will be covered. Check our website here to buy tics and to win them for the whole weekend including camping.
Notable: As you know most campgrounds in the Province are alchohol free zones now, but not the Grand Beach Entertainment Center on this long weekend!! Just saying….ha

Catch you in the morning….and remember to check out our Tom and Joe webpage here for neat stuff every day.

Tiger Tiger Tiger……even if you don’t usually watch golf, you can’t get away from the media focus on his return from tawdry town to the place he’s had his biggest impact, the Masters.

I would watch the Masters anyway, but it sure is supercharged this year with his return. I even put up with all the announcers gushing over the club and the course to the point of making you sick! Watched him play today and although he was a little rusty at times on the famous greens at Augusta, he still looked pretty impressive to me for a guy who had been away for so long.

Btw check out a couple of polls we have running right now in the VIP section of this website. Once concerns whether Tiger will make the cut…so far most do….and the other asks for your thoughts on his new controversial Nike ad that utilizes the voice of his deseased Dad. Personally I think it’s brilliant marketing, but many disagree. I’d like to hear where you stand on it.

Also don’t miss Global Tv’s Eric Sorensen reporting live from Augusta with us again tomorrow
morning at 750am. He was a few feet away from Tiger as he started his round and has lots of inside stuff you’ll never hear on the strictly controlled tv broadcast.

There’s one more week of Vegas trip giveaways on the Tom and Joe World Tour to join us on the party plane! You really gotta be on that plane! It’s going to be a blast! Of course we’ll give away another trip for two tomorrow morn at 720, and then every morning next week too.
Remember to get the Vegas words to put in your ViP account in the full page ad in the Winnipeg Sun as well as at 820am, 120 and 320pm every weekday.
If you’re not a Vip member yet, there’s still time. All details here at our website to join up and win.

Mayor Sam Katz was in on the show this morning to officially proclaim our Tom and Joe Morning Show is now Bigger and Longer, extended an hour to 10am every morning now. Sam was great as always and reminiced with us about his early days as a concert promoter working hand in hand with us to bring all the shows to Winnipeg. He also applauded us for putting together such an incredible lineup so far the the 2010 CITI Concert Series. You can hear the interview on the Tom and Joe page of the website here.

Don’t forget to celebrate the extention of the show with us again tomorrow morning between 9 and 10am as we rev up the Tom and Joe Ticket Making Machine which will spit out tics to all the great upcoming concerts for you every 9 minutes.

Other recent guests on the show include Don Cherry who was unusually poinant when telling us how he was going to watch the recent movie of his life on his own, since he anticipated becoming pretty emotional, especially at the depiction of Rose, the love of his life and long time wife.

Thanks for always asking, as the Who once said ‘the kids are allright’. My boys are busy as ever. The one recent setback was Derek’s, as he was booked on a flight to Jamaica last Sat on Sky Service, and we all know how that turned out! You can catch him back at work instead bartending at the Pony Corrall on Pembina.

And for all those who have asked, I am loving it living downtown now. Walking distance to everything and just saw Robbie, our Super Superintendant filling the outdoor swimming pool today!! Not kidding!

Btw..hope you have a chance to listen to my buddy ‘Browner’, Jeff Brown on the afternoon show from 3 to 6pm each day. He’s a cool dude and has instituted a 92 minute rock block for you every afternoon starting at 4pm.

Thanks for tuning in each morning…..look to this blog space for some great new additions in the near future including some of our favorite video moments and video blogs from Joe and I.

Hear from you in the morning.

Tom on March 25th

March 25th, 2010 by Tom

Boy, has it been exciting and fun the last couple of weeks. Not that doing this gig isn’t a blast all the time, but launching the Tom and Joe World Tour Party Plane and giving away a trip a day has been wild!

You gotta be on this plane!! As Joe says “what happens in Vegas, Never Happened”!

There’s still 4 more weeks of trip giveaways EVERYDAY, Mon to Fri.

All the details are on the site here, but simply put, we give you 4 words a day to plug into your All Access account, one at 820am, 120 and 320pm, and one in the full page ad in the Wpg Sun. Every day at 720 we’ll call out a name from all those who entered the codes the day before, and you’ll have 15 to call and be on your way to Vegas with us!! It’s a new contest every day!

The fun starts each morning when we call out the name. This morning we had a new record for call backs as winner Bridgette Lowrey called back in 16 secs!! Then last week there was Mary Thibideault who was on her way home from work in a car without a cell phone and just made it home to call us with 10 SECONDS remaining. Joe instantly had two nicknames for her, as he always does, ‘Last Minute Mary’ and “10 Second Thibideault”….hilarious.

Otherwise there have been lots of things happening around us that we’ve been having lots of fun with.
Tiger Woods always of course……and there’ll be lots more fodder to come as we approach his return at the Masters……btw, use some All Access points and win a “Tom and Joe Tiger Survival Kit”….includes everything to survive the Tiger lifestyle…..hotel stay, helmet to protect you against nine irons to the head…..oh yeah, a Nike 9 iron and more. All the details in the Vip club. We’ll give away one a day all next week.

We’ve had Jenny Jones reporting in every morining this week at the Womans World Curling Championships where you should see her reach the final by the weekend. (No jinx saying that Jen!) She’s great and lots of fun. We’ll have her on one more time tomorrow morning at 750am.

Also tomorrow, our buddy Don Cherry joins us to tell us about his biographical movie that hits tv Sunday night, or whatever else comes to his mind as always…….don’t worry we’ll ask him about the return of the Jets!! He’s on with us at 810am tomorrow.

And Krystof from UFC should join us at either 710 or 840, depending on his training schedule. Joe will be at the Casino as always, for the big UFC card on Sat. night.

I’ll be out hosting an event Sat night as well. Come on out to Pantages Theatre to see some hot bods, as I MC the Novice Bodybuilding Championships. You can get tics at the door.
Before that I’ll be doing a live remote broadcast at Computer Trends in St James. Come by and say hello between 1 and 5 pm.

Oh yeah….having lots of fun with Jesse James too of course. Cheat on America’s Sweetheart, Sandra, incur the wrath of everyone. At the same time, why is everyone surprised, he’s well known for his attraction to tattooed porn star strippers who he’s actually married a couple of times. Poor Sandra should have seen that coming.

Ok, gotta get ready for the show tomorrow……hear from you then.

Vegas Baby!

March 8th, 2010 by Joe Aiello

Woohoo! It ‘s the latest leg of the Tom and Joe World Tour and I couldn’t be happier. It’s my favorite place to vacation and we are going to fill up the party plane and take a bunch of you with us!
Every morning at 7:20 we will give away another trip for two! Remember, what happens in Vegas… never happened!

The Academy Awards were on last night and I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were great as hosts. Even the winners’ speeches did not go long. The one dissapointment for me was when they did the memorial video of the hollywood people who passed away over the last year. They ommitted Bea Arthur and Farrah Fawcett. One Oscar higher-up said that because of time restraints sometimes people are left out. Yeah because it would have made a big difference if the show ran 4 hours and 1 minute, instead of the already long 4 hours. Sheesh!

Have a great day!
p.s. Hope you win our first trip to vegas tomorrow morning!

Still buzzing from the Olympics? I still am. What a great two weeks. Watched everything I could and loved every minute of it. How could you not love capping it off with the hockey gold!
Actually watched a bit of an NHL game last night with son Derek and we both thought it looked slow compared to the olympic hockey, but of course that makes sense.
NHL trade deadline today and son Keenan takes his traditional day off school to monitor. That kid is going to be a GM of a team one day.

Looks like spring is just about here….of course we’ll get hit with a couple of snowfalls this month, but you can feel it. Love this time of year, when the whole summer is ahead for us.

Monday we launch new Tom and Joe World Tours and they are off the chart. We’ll give away a trip a day for 6 weeks. You do the math. That’s a lot of winners!! Everyone will join us on the Tom and Joe party plane heading off for……oh wait…..I can’t tell you…..all the details coming next Mon morn at 720am!!

The lap dancing teachers….we’ve spoken to a lot of you on the show about this. Opinions seem to be split almost 50/50 regarding whether or not they should be fired.
Personally I hate to see them lose their jobs and careers, but how do they gain the respect of the students again as authority figures that can be looked up to? I don’t know.

Leno back in his old time slot……personally don’t care…I’ve always been a Letterman guy….I just think his so much more funny….simple as that….

Days after a whale kills an employee at Seaworld the shows are back on. Why….$ baby…the almighty buck. It’s in the tens of millions……the show must go on…..greed sure is ugly….

We take our show on the road this Fri morn to Robert H Smith school. They hold a community breakfast every year…..this year for the Winnipeg Humane Society. We always have a blast. Breakfast tv will also be there so look for us there too.

catch you in the morning

Tuesday’s Random Thoughts

March 2nd, 2010 by Joe Aiello

The Late-Night Wars started up again last night with the return of Jay Leno to the Tonight Show. I was hoping both Leno and Letterman would have spent more time taking some shots during their monologues, but each host managed one thought about them going head-to-head. We’ll have to see what the rest of the week brings.

The Federal Government is back in action after a couple of months off. Tomorrow is the Throne Speech and Thursday the budget will come down. Wow, two hard days of work back-to-back! I guess they’ll need to take Friday off!

Walmart announced it will be creating 3,000 jobs in Canada this year! Not bad, since we aren’t necessarily out of the recession yet. Apparently that will make “Walmart Greeter” the number 3 biggest profession in Canada!

Baseball Exhibition Games really kick into gear tomorrow in Florida and Arizona… I love watching baseball, but will wait for the 164 regular season games and the playoffs. That should be enough.

Join us tomorrow morning for a chance to win an Oscar Nomination prize package and for an interview with one of the all-time NHL greats Tony Esposito (8:10)!

Have a great day!

Olympic Fever

February 26th, 2010 by Joe Aiello

It sure has been great watching all the Olympic events and cheering on our athletes! I read a stat the other day that said 80% of Canadians surveyed believed the Vancouver 2010 Games have done a wonderful job unifying the country.

Congratulations to the Women’s hockey team for their Gold medal performance yesterday and also the efforts of Joannie Rochette during a very emotional time. Good luck to the men tonight as they try and make it to the Gold Medal Game on Sunday. My prediction for tonight against Slovakia is 5-1 Canada, and that the Finns knock off the U.S. in the other semi. It will also be fun rooting on Cheryl Bernard and Kevin Martin as both curling teams go for gold. It should be a great finish to the Olympics for Canada!

On the out n’ about program tonight I’ll be hanging with the gang at the Canadian Fighting Championship 4 (MMA card) at the Convention Center. Giuseppe DeNatale has become the premier mixed martial arts promoter and Canada and is bringing great fights to Winnipeg. Should be a great card tonight.

Tomorrow afternoon features the Winnipeg Alliance Soccer Club’s annual showcase games at the MTS Centre at 2:00 and 4:00. Great indoor action that the family will love.

Sunday brings me to the Boston Pizza on kenaston, first, for the Gold Medal Game Party (if you would like to join us) and the Sports Show at 6:00.

Have a great weekend!
Go Canada Go!!!!

Tuesday, February 23rd

February 23rd, 2010 by Joe Aiello

It’s been awhile since I have blogged, I guess I’ve been writing a few too many thoughts on my Facebook page and have been sherking my responsibilities from here. Well, here goes.

Tiger Woods- Caught the press conference on Friday, if you want to call it that. I think it was exactly what everyone thought it would be…. very well choreographed and Tiger seemed very robotic. Either way, it was something his handlers should have probably had him do a few months back. My prediction is he will be back in time for The Masters, and there won’t be any questions thrown at him by the golf announcers.

Olympics- I have really enjoyed watching the Vancouver Olympics! Probably because they are happening so close to home. I’m even watching the events I thought I had no interest in. Here’s a few signs you have been watching too much of the Olympics:

- After all the vignettes, you try and figure out who your own difference maker is.
- You stop wearing a watch or looking at the clock because you expect Brian Williams to keep giving you the time.
- You start understanding all the Frennch announcements and your not even bilingual.

Looking forward to watching Team Canada beat Germany tonight. My prediction is 6-0, and then winning against the Russians tomorrow night. Don’t forget you can catch the games on 92 CITI FM. The pregame starts at 6:00.

Go Canada Go!
