Summer Is Close. (BONUS CODE)
March 12th, 2010 by Tim
Hey, did you hear the The Beach Boys are coming to Calgary at the Jube September 30th?
Great way to end off the summer.
I was reading a Rolling Stones article recently where “Good Vibrations” was #6 on the Top 10 songs of all time. I would have to agree.
Here are the Top 5:
5. Respect-Aretha Franklin
4. What’s Goin’ On-Marvin Gaye
3. Imagine-John Lennon
2. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction-The Rolling Stones
1. Like A Rolling Stone-Bob Dylan
All great songs. Timeless. Do you agree and do you have a favourite song of all time?
I’m not sure if I posted this song before but I’ve always like this one below.

Jeff Bridges Over Troubled Water.
March 9th, 2010 by Tim
Well, after that last blog post, I’m certainly feeling better about things.
Thanks for all the great e-mails.
There have been 3 people that have inspired me in the past few day. They are Jeff Bridges along with Simon and Garfunkel.
Watching “The Dude” Jeff Bridges, accept his best actor award at the Oscars sent shivers up my spine. I always love to see people savour their accomplishments especially after years and years of hard work. One can never give up.
Secondly, the reaction to Simon and Garfunkel coming to Calgary May 2nd has been amazing. And I thought U2 to Edmonton was huge.
The successful duo are definitely icons and span generations. It also tells me you’re never too old.
I’ll have a bonus code for you on Friday.
Schooled!
March 5th, 2010 by Tim
Well, I am now 2 for 4 with Roll Up The Rim To Win at Timmy’s. 2 coffees. I’ve tried other places for coffee, but Mr. Horton is number 1 on the charts for me.
I had an interesting week in the “learning about myself and others” category. I have heard the term, “I can only control what I can do, how others act is out of my control”. This, I think, is a hard lesson to learn.
I got a crash course in it this week and it knocked me back on my heels, to the point where I have to step back, reassess, catch my breath and work on different things about myself.
You’re reading this and saying to yourself, “..Gee, that’s pretty vague stuff….”
To be more succinct, I have to change my approach towards some people. Don’t get me wrong, I know I’m a decent fella and I treat people with the respect they deserve. Mama didn’t raise no hellraiser, but I sometimes lose patience with a person who, I believe, doesn’t treat with me with the respect I think I deserve.
This cowboy has to stop and take 5 when I’m in that situation. As Chicago sang, It’s a hard habit to break.
Hey, acknowledging the problem is the first step to solving it, right? Maybe I’m too hopped up on Timmy’s? Hmmmm, want my free coffees?
Have a great weekend. My therapy this weekend will be spring cleaning.

Here’s a song I clearly remember on the radio back in the ’70’s. Someone mentioned this song and I found it.
The Fever Has Broke!
March 2nd, 2010 by Tim
I think I’ve bled the Olympics out of my system. That was a wonderful 2 weeks for Vancouver and the rest of Canada!
I was tapped on Monday but am back to normal now. I didn’t even participate and I was drained.
Here’s a thought and question. We’ve heard all sorts of stories of athletes overcoming various odds and obstacles to make it to the Olympics, let alone winning a medal.
Did watching the Olympics and hearing the great human stories inspire you to be a better person at work or at home? Physically, mentally or spiritually?
There was a lot of inspiration and goal reaching the last few weeks and I wonder if it’ll transcend to everyday life?
I’ll have a bonus code for you on Friday.
It was on this day in 1999, Dusty Springfield lost her battle with breast cancer. One of my favourite Dusty songs is below.
Watching Movies. (BONUS CODE)
February 26th, 2010 by Tim
I’ve come back to watching some movies again. It’s been a while. Kinda busy over here.
Just finished watching The Hurt Locker and Up In The Air. Both are up for Best Picture at this years Oscars and both are worthy.
I love movies with good stories. In fact, the more words the better. Slumdog Millionaire has become one of my favourites along with The Departed, next to The King Of Comedy. I’ll have the trailer for you below.
Probably one of the strangest and funniest movies. It stars Robert DeNiro and Jerry Lewis and is directed by Martin Scorsese. It was made in 1982 but a story way ahead of it’s time. I recommend it, but it may be a bit far out for some. Watch it and let me know what you think.
Have a great weekend and GO CANADA GO!

Synchronicity.
February 23rd, 2010 by Tim
I had one of those days where I was just out of synch.
I hit every light on the way to work. I was cut off at least 3 times from drivers not shoulder checking and the 2 places I went to today, Tim Horton’s and the post office, had huge line ups and almost everyone was asking long winded questions like “…do you serve donuts and if you do, what flavours do you have…?” OR, “….How much is XPress Post and if I buy it, can you assure me it’ll get there and how do I track it…?”
*sigh* Yes, one of those days. I think I’m carrying Team Canada’s karma going into tonight’s game against Germany. Boy, a lot of people are grumpy about the hockey team’s path.
Good thing I’m having an off day today because I’m taking tomorrow off. I’ll get out in the sun and the fresh air and the world will be right again.
Let’s hope that world includes the Canadians against the Russians tomorrow.
I’ll have a bonus code on Friday.
Here’s two videos in honour of the games tonight and hopefully tomorrow.
Great Save! (BONUS CODE)
February 19th, 2010 by Tim
It’s that time of year again to think of contributing to RRSP’s.
I usually throw in a grand each year in hopes of it growing to a million dollars by the time I’m 65 years old.
Do we really need a million dollars to retire? My elderly parents have always told me, by the time I get to their age, I won’t be spending money like when I was in my 30’s and 40’s. My Dad never had a company pension and my Mom always worked part time once I got older. The only source of income my parents have is the Canada Pension and the savings they’ve accumulated over the years from selling a couple of houses and compound interest. I don’t know how much they have in the bank, but my conservative guess-ta-mate would be $100,000. I hope I’m way off by about $400,000 to the good, but Mom and Dad are pretty low key people.
I hope just to have enough to do the odd trip, eat a fine meal once in a while and pay the bills. How much more does a person really need?
What do you think is a comfortable bank account?
Have a great weekend!

Vancouver the Great!
February 17th, 2010 by Tim
I completely disagree with all the negative comments about the Vancouver Olympics. I’ll put good money down that in 10 years, nobody will remember the glitches. Well, maybe the faulty cauldron.
Millions of people from around the world are catching a glimpse of Vancouver and I know their reaction is WOW! Mine is the same and I’ve been to that city a hundred times.
I remember travelling through Warsaw and when I told people I was from Alberta. The 2 questions they asked about were the rockies and Vancouver.
People from around the world love Canada and Vancouver is a jewel of our nation and I know it looks fantastic on TV.
Get ready for more visitors.
It worked for Calgary.
I’ll have a bonus code for you on Friday.

Show Us The Flame!
February 11th, 2010 by Tim
I mentioned on my previous post that Vancouver may be the warmest winter Olympics on record.
I had a few people e-mail me and asked if I was around for ‘88 in Calgary because it was pretty warm here.
I actually lived in Lethbridge at the time but I did come up to see Sweden and Finland play in a hockey game at the Saddledome. It was brown in Calgary but at least we had decent snow for the all the skiing. Let’s cross our fingers for Vancouver. I’d hate to see them get lambasted in the media for lack of snow.
We’ve been talking around the office as to who should be the one who lights the cauldron tomorrow. Odds on favourite is Wayne Gretzky. Good choice, but I’d like to see Nancy Green do it, since she won a medal in the Olympics.
Does it have to be an athlete? A person that came to my mind is Michael J. Fox. He was raised in Vancouver, is a huge star and he’s battling Parkinson’s Disease and raising a ton of money for research.
Isn’t the Olympics about being the best and good heart warming stories of triumph?
I wouldn’t mind seeing that.
Bonus code tomorrow.
