There’s a cool gadget out that will wake only you. At some point you’ve probably felt the rage of being awoken early by someone else’s alarm, or maybe you feel bad for disturbing your sweetie with your wake up time, problems that the Analarm watch nullifies. It’s a simple concept: a vibrating watch with an alarm. Set your time and it buzzes to let you know when to get up. Seemingly that’s all the thing does, other than tell time of course. The price is around $450. Seems a little steep (and not all that pretty) but probably worth it if your day starts more smoothly!

Aaah, my radio sister, Lisa Drew shares my fond nostalgic memories of Nancy Drew mystery books and you can’t imagine how entirely my mind was blown when, for Christmas, she gave me “Clues for Real Life: The Classic Wit & Wisdom of Nancy Drew”. A book filled with all things Nancy! Who knew? I started reading it this afternoon and I seriously can’t stop smiling! This book offers advice on everything a “modern gal” needs. Too good and too fun not to share a few gems with you…

Dating: When you stick your boyfriend in a cabin with a sick man and live high on the hog at a nearby resort, he might get a bit cranky, but if he complies, he might just be the man for you. – The Haunted Bridge

Dealing with Difficult People: When a crazed villain leaps off and starts dancing with you across a field, take this opportunity to interrogate him for clues in between twirls! – The Double Jinx Mystery

Travel: When warned by a cantankerous Monsieur Neuf to stay out of France, indulge his threats and go to France anyway! – The Mystery of the 99 Steps

Real Estate: If someone’s trying to buy a house and it suddenly becomes haunted, it’s probably not a coincidence. – The Hidden Staircase

What a great way to start a new year… remembering an old favourite! Thanks to the Drew girls, both Nancy and Lisa!

Just got home from what was another hugely successful “Inspiring Women” event at Bingeman’s! Kudos to Chris and Bernadette from the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre for another sold out event!

Lisa and I took in the afternoon portion, enjoyed a delicious lunch and settled in to enjoy the afternoon speakers. Naomi Judd was the keynote speaker and was amazing! She conducted an “innerview” with the audience, posing questions to help us explore our own lives and connect with ourselves. Really thought provoking! Naomi spent the hour wandering through the audience up close and personal. She was real, honest, smart and, most definitely, inspiring.

Cathy Jones was the final speaker of the day and oh-so-funny and relatable! With an abundance of laughs she delivered a message that resonated! Perfect way to end the day!

We’re already looking forward to what in store for next year!

The United Way of K-W kicked off their Fall Fundraising Campaign this morning. Year 2 of a 3 year 21 million dollar goal. With the kick-off they launched a new annual event, The “Day of Caring” where teams from the community volunteered their time at various U-Way agencies! Big shout out to our Rogers Kitchener Radio Group team… Liz, SarahJane, Dave M., Pete, Bill, Lisa Drew (also CAMPAIGN CHAIR, I’m so proud of my B.F.F.) and I spent a few hours at R.O.O.F. , an agency dedicated to helping street youth in our community. We got our hands dirty with some cleaning but, more importantly, we had our eyes and hearts opened to youth in need. You can help out, too. Right now, the biggest thing on R.O.O.F.’s wish-list is toiletries. Things like full-sized shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, and shaving supplies. Something to keep in mind next time you do a drug store run! Thanks to Sandra for the tour and the education!

http://www.roof-agency.net/roofpress/?page_id=6

And, please remember to support the United Way so they can continue to support their member agencies.

What a great morning to be part of the excitement of the Grand Opening celebrations of Pope John Paul II Catholic Elementary School in Kitchener! George and I took the show on the road this morning and went back to school. So fun!! Watching the kids and their parents arrive for the first day of classes at a brand new school was absolutely delightful! Especially the littlest students with backpacks almost as big as they are! There was such great support from community leaders and the WRPS Ceremonial Band with the Mounted Unit on their new horses “Watson” and “King” really added to an already great day! We sure had a blast being part of the action and thank you SO much to the amazing Pam Garbutt (principal extraordinaire) and Mary Hogg (the ultimate administrative assistant) for inviting us out for the festivities! Have a great first year and GO SUNS!

One of our recent “Daily Diversions” inspired us with ideas about things to do before Summer is over! With it being soooo hot the last few days it was the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy it! Yesterday, it was off to the Conestoga Conservation Area to cool off in the lake, do some jet skiing and picnic (a sandwich and bottle of water counts as a picnic if you’re sitting at a picnic table, right?). With the long weekend there’s even more opportunity to squeeze every ounce you can out of Summer… enjoy it so much!
