Residences living outside the dyke system in Chilliwack need to be ready to pick up and go at a moment’s notice.

The City has issued an evacuation alert for those properties in response to high water levels expected later this week.

According to the Chilliwack emergency operations program the water levels and flow rates could be the highest they’ve been since 1972.

The BC River Forecast Centre has projected flows for the Fraser River to increase to 12,000 to 13,000 m3/s at Hope, with equivalent water levels of 6.5 to 7, anticipated at Mission.

Officials are heading out to residences to make sure they know about the alert, and will be patrolling the dyke daily.
