A source close to the bout has informed that heavyweights Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub and Gabriel “Nepao” Gonzaga are set to lock horns on the main card of UFC 121: Lesnar vs Velasquez.
Schaub (6-1), is coming off a sixty seven second KO victory earlier this month at UFC 116, over Brock Lesnar’s teammate, Chris Tuchscherer. While many thought the UFC was going to match him up with another one of Lesnar’s teammates, the undefeated Jon Madsen, it appears the organization is looking to fast track “The Hybrid” up their heavyweight ladder.
Gonzaga (11-5), is 1-2 in his last three bouts, with his last fight a knockout loss to another prospect in the division, Junior dos Santos. The disappointing loss for “Nepao” happened in the first round during UFC Live: Jones vs Vera in March, and is one he is likely trying to erase as quickly as possible.
UFC 121, scheduled for October 23rd at the Honda Centre in Anaheim California, is shaping up to be one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s best of the year.
Thus far, the rumoured bouts include:
