Dan Henderson is pulling no punches in talking about his UFC 93 opponent Rich Franklin. Hendo: I’m going to take Franklin down and beat the s#!t out of him The winner of this fight looks to be rewarded with being a coach for Team USA on the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter. The country vs country theme will pit the USA vs The UK, where coach Michael Bisping will eventually take on the winner of Henderson / Franklin. Here, Bisping breaks down Franklin vs. Henderson
In Frank Mir: Big fights are for people who sell tickets, not losers , the newly crowned interm heavyweight champion showcases that he now ‘gets it’. As a fighter, if you want to get far in the sport of MMA (or even boxing for that matter), you better be able to market yourself, have some sort of charisma, charm or schtick, because like it or not, your fighting skills will only get you so far.
Sitting quietly at the back of the room is the news that Gonzaga vs Carwin signed for UFC 96. This is a substantially large bout for not only the current rankings in the UFC’s heavyweight division, but also the future of the weight class. Gonzaga is on trek for another crack at the title, but his opponent Shane Carwin is being mentioned alongside Cain Velasquez as two of the guys to stay atop the division for years to come. All the pressure is on Gonzaga in this fight as he cannot really afford to lose to Carwin. The latter is still on the upswing of his career so a loss to contender like Gonzaga would be nothing more than a minor setback that can likely be chalked up as a learning experience.
