Rich `Ace` Franklin is upping the ante on January 17th, as he will due battle Dan `Hendo` Henderson in the main event at UFC 93. Styles make fights and I see this as a very bad match up for Franklin, but he has never been one to back down from a tough fight. Here`s a look at Rich Franklin – Seven Defining Moments in MMA.

The UFC is planning to go “global“ in 2009. They have signed on with various television stations in Europe as well as in Brazil. Their penetration strategy is one that looks at the business from a long term point of view. They work to get a TV deal, sing it, then begin the process of educating the public about the sport, as well as their brand. Case and point: Dana White Video Interview: Talks Lyoto Machida, UFC in Brazil and More.

Marc Ratner, the UFC’s VP of Regulatory Affairs Talks New Territories, which will eventually include South Carolina, Wisconsin, New York and hopefully Massachusetts in 2009. In this interview, he goes on to explain how the UFC is laying down the foundation for the future of MMA regulation in the UK.

Overseas in Japan, Team Quest heavyweight King Mo was victorious again, while Takanori Gomi falls again during Sengoku’s “Seventh Battle”. The Gomi myth dealt another blow as the once dominant and poster child for Japan`s lightweight division is at a crossroads in his career. Satoshi Ishii makes surprise appearance during Sengoku’s “Seventh Battle” and he made a bold statement in front of the whole Japanese MMA scene. Here, Ishii appears in Japan sporting UFC gear at the event, sending a message to all parties involved in negotiating his signature that the Olympic Judoka has risen the bar and that he is looking to maximize the dollar value for his services.
