UFC 87: Seek and Destroy is less than two weeks away and will be held at the Target Centre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is a star studded card and will feature the return of a few fan favourites.
First off is hometown hero, Brock Lesnar, as he takes on the well experienced Heath Herring in a heavyweight clash that will send tremors through the arena. Lesnar is coming off a submission loss to Frank Mir but let it be known that before he tapped out, Mir was in a world of hurt. Lesnar will need to unleash the same fury on Herring if he is to be victorious and in no way, shape or form, think about standing with ‘The Texas Crazy Horse’. Herring has been around for a very long time and with the exception of his wrestling skills, is better at Lesnar in all facets of the game. If Herring can withstand the initial onslaught, I see him defeating Lesnar with some of his own exceptional ground’n'pound.
In what will surely be the fight of the night, local Minnesota phenom Roger ‘El Matador’ Huerta steps up in competition to take on one of the UFC’s best 155 lbers in Kenny ‘Kenflo’ Florian. This will boil down to a battle of wills, heart and strategic execution as both of these fighters have the skills to inflict some serious damage onto their opponent. Florian is always looking to finish, and can do so with his excellent stand up, his razor sharp elbows, or is incredible ground and pound. Huerta on the other hand has great boxing skills, exceptional wrestling and a will to win that is second to none. Anyone can win this fight, but look for Kenny Florian to lock in a rear naked choke late in the third round.
Next week I’ll break down the main event between Georges St.Pierre and Jon Fitch and tell you why GSP is in for one of the toughest fights of his life.
