….Jimi Hendrix, the legend lives on

September 18th, 2012 by shawngilmore

42 years ago today Jimi Hendrix died. There is still a lot of speculation over his death. What exactly happened? Was Jimi alive when he got to the hospital? Was he murdered by a former manager? These are all questions which have popped up over the years.

One thing for certain is Jimi was one Rock’s greatest guitarists ever. And just 27 when he passed away it’s amazing to think what he had already done to influence music. A perfect example is his take on “All Along the Watchtower”. The song written and first recorded by Bob Dylan, no musical slouch either, here’s what Bob said about Jimi’s version…”I liked Jimi Hendrix’s record of this and ever since he died I’ve been doing it that way… Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it’s a tribute to him in some kind of way.”
…If that isn’t a tribute, then nothing is.

Here’s Jimi doing his thing:

Here’s an interesting one, a new study was done looking at the “Laugh-per-Minute” factor of comedy movies. Scoring them by which movies offered the most here’s the Top 10

10. “Life of Brian” (1.2 laughs per minute)
9. “Shaun Of the Dead” (1.3)
8. “Bridesmaids” (1.4)
7. “American Pie” (1.5)
6. “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (1.6)

3. “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!” (2.3)
2. “The Hangover” (2.4)
1. “Airplane!” (3)

…Pretty solid list, however I’d have to throw in an “Ace Ventura Pet Detective” in there somewhere (Ace still makes me laugh everytime!)

Two new movies open in Timmins tonight. First is The Possession. A scary one, it’s rated 14A. Story is a dad buys an antique box for his daughter yardsale. Turns out it contains a spirit set on devouring them…(Yeah that’s the official description)… Trailer looks creepy, see below.
Also arriving in town is Lawless. A gangster movie starring Tom Hardy and Shia LeBeouf. Based on the true story of bootlegging brothers from Virginia during prohibition. By the way I’ve heard Shia’s role in the movie is much smaller then the trailer makes it look…Which based on his previous acting choices, this might be a good thing.
Here’s the trailers:

…Today’s new flicks…I’ve got their trailers

August 24th, 2012 by shawngilmore

Friday has arrived. Yeah! And 2 movies open in Timmins this eve. Both more geared at adults then kids. First up is Premium Rush. Plot says its about a bike messenger who has a mystery package to deliver, and of course the action-y whackiness ensues.  This stars Joesph Gordon-Levitt…He’s a good actor, maybe he can save it… It looks kinda lame.
Also out, Hit & Run. WARNING, guys, this is marketed as a Romantic Comedy. With that said the trailer looks pretty action packed with some funny lines so it might be worth a look… Looks like the best option of the 2 at least.

Here’s the trailers:
Hit & Run

Premium Rush

…Have a great weekend, don’t forget to look for Q92 all weekend long at the Great Canadian Kayak Challenge. See you there!

So Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger recently proposed to Avril Lavigne. Didn’t see that one coming did you?  I personally can’t stop laughing….. Oh man, these two are perfect for each other.
I’m certainly not the only one finding this humourous. Here’s the best online comments about their announcement, so far:

From Twitter:
Adam Newman (@Adam_Newman): Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger from Nickelback are getting married? I didn’t know Canada allowed SAME SUCKS MARRIAGE.

The Drunky Single: I wish every ex of mine could get engaged to Nickelback guy… I would feel so much better about life.

Zach Braff: So THATS who likes Nickelback.

Death Star PR: Avril Lavigne and Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger are getting married! To celebrate, we’re exploding your planet before the inevitable duet!

Drew Magary: I assume Avril Lavigne was drawn to Chad Kroeger because he doesn’t make things complicated, particularly song structures.

Lee Newton: Did you hear? Avril Lavigne is engaged to that chick from Nickelback…

And elsewhere:
Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have requested that in lieu of wedding gifts, everyone stop laughing uncontrollably at them*

I heard he proposed 30 different ways … but they all sounded the same…whiny and annoying

Looks like Sum 41 opened for Nickleback one more time…

These are fantastic! Have you got a good one to add? Leave me a comment with your best!
*-That one’s my current favourite

…Musicians insure the oddest things…

August 21st, 2012 by shawngilmore

Here’s an odd one for you. We all know musicians, actors, etc., are known for bizarre insurance policies they take out on themselves, their body parts. And in some cases, their body fluids (really David Lee Roth)… Here’s a list of a few notables:   –If the photo is fuzzy just click it to expand–

Ever heard of an even stranger insurance policy? Who was it, what did they insure? Lemme know!
