SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs have been eliminated from the QMJHL post-season after a 6-1 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads in Game 4 of their first round series at Harbour Station.

Maxime Villemaire had the only goal for the Sea Dogs.

Halifax won the series in a four-game sweep.

The Mooseheads got the offence going on a power play midway through the first period.

Czech winger Martin Frk blasted a heavy slap shot from the top of the right circle that Stefan Fournier tipped past Sebastien Auger.

Nathan MacKinnon doubled the Mooseheads’ lead exactly two minutes later, finishing off a nifty skate pass from Fournier.

Halifax outshot Saint John 19-1 in the opening period and led 2-0.

Luca Ciampini expanded the advantage to 3-0 three minutes into the second.

About three minutes later, Matthew Boudreau ripped a wrister from the right wing that went through the defenceman’s legs and over the blocker of Auger.

The Mooseheads made it 5-0 with forty seconds left in the second period.

Moments after Saint John forward Mackenzie Brown attempted to split the Moose defence, the puck was turned over and sent ahead to a streaking Darcy Ashley.

The PEI native broke in alone and beat Auger high with a deke to the backhand.

Fournier’s second of the night made it 6-0 for Halifax four minutes into the third.

Villemaire broke a shutout bid by Halifax goalie Zach Fucale about three-and-a-half minutes later.

Saint John’s graduating overager fired a hard wrist shot along the ice from the right wing side and beating the goaltender under his right pad.

But the Mooseheads would not allow any more Sea Dog offence.

Auger made 44 saves in defeat while Fucale earned his fourth win of the series with 14 stops.

It’s the first time the Sea Dogs have been swept in a series since the first round of the 2009 playoffs against Cape Breton.

NOTES: Scratches were Stephen Anderson (upper body), Oliver Cooper (lower body) and Jason Cameron (lower body)….Cooper did not play after being injured in the third period of Game 3 on a hit from behind by ex-Sea Dog Stephen MacAulay. MacAulay was suspended for Game 4, and missed what would have been his final game in his former home….The loss marked the final games in the QMJHL careers of Villemaire, captain Pierre Durepos and blueliner Ian Saab….Halifax F Martin Frk had a frustrating power play shift early in the second. The Detroit Red Wings’ prospect broke two sticks on back-to-back slap shot opportunities. The bottom half of the first one ended up landing in the crowd….Attendance was 2,294.

Three Stars: 1. Durepos (SJ) 2. Saab (SJ) 3. Villemaire (SJ) Top Dog: Highmore

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs are on the brink of elimination from the QMJHL President’s Cup playoffs after dropping a 6-1 decision to the Halifax Mooseheads in Game 3 of their first round playoff series at Harbour Station.

Jurij Repe got the only goal for Saint John.

The Mooseheads now have a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven match-up.

Former Sea Dog Stephen MacAulay got Halifax on the board ninety seconds into the first period, potting the rebound of a shot from the right wing side.

The Moose doubled their advantage with two-and-a-half minutes left in the first when Andrew Ryan buried a wraparound past Sebastien Auger.

Halifax extended its lead to 3-0 three minutes into the second.

Czech winger Martin Frk broke in from the Saint John blueline and jammed a shot on goal.

He appeared to push Auger in across the goalline with the puck, but the goal stood.

Just over a minute later, MacAulay netted his second of the night, tapping home a pass from Stefan Fournier from behind the net.

The Sea Dogs got one back eight minutes into the period on a power play.

After a clean faceoff win to the left of Moose goalie Zach Fucale, Pierre Durepos fed a pass over to the left point for Repe, who blasted a home slapper to make it 4-1.

But Jonathan Drouin restored the four-goal Moosehead lead three minutes later with a tap-in on a 2-on-1 pass from fellow draft prospect Nathan MacKinnon.

MacAulay was thrown out of the game just over a minute into the third period after a hit from behind on Saint John forward Oliver Cooper.

Cooper did not return.

Drouin wrapped up the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway in the dying seconds of the MacAulay penalty.

Auger made 40 saves in the loss.

Fucale earned his third win of the series with 20 saves for Halifax.

The Sea Dogs face a must-win scenerio in Game 4 on Wednesday.

NOTES: Scratches were Stephen Anderson (upper body), Jeremy Doucet (healthy) and Michael Abbott (healthy)….MacAulay was still named second star despite missing the final 19 minutes of the third period following his game misconduct….F Marcus Cuomo and F Jason Cameron were the only two Sea Dogs to finish the game with an even +/- rating….Tempers flared with just under nine minutes left. After an Auger save resulted in a whistle, Halifax forward Darcy Ashley sucker-punched Olivier Leblanc, creating a big scrum near the Saint John net. Four players – two from each team – were given ten-minute misconducts….Attendance was 2,795.

Three Stars: 1. Fournier (HAL) 2. MacAulay (HAL) 3. MacKinnon (HAL) Top Dog: Auger (Honourable mention: Brown)

HALIFAX – Matthew Boudreau’s power play goal with under eight minutes left in the third period proved to be the game winner, as the Halifax Mooseheads came from behind to defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs, 2-1, in Game 2 of their first round playoff match-up.

The Mooseheads now lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.

Maxime Villemaire scored the only goal for Saint John.

Halifax thought they had opened the scoring with about eight minutes left in the first period.

The Moose broke in on a shorthanded 3-on-1, where Nathan MacKinnon snapped a shot that got under Sebastien Auger in the Saint John net.

It rolled to the goalline before a Sea Dog defenceman could clear it away.

The initial call of a goal on the ice was reversed and the game stayed scoreless.

Villemaire got Saint John on the board a couple of minutes later on another power play.

Jakub Izacky fired a shot from inside the right circle that was stopped by Moose goalie Zach Fucale, but Villemaire put in the rebound to give Saint John its first lead of the series.

Halifax responded in the opening thirty seconds of the second period.

With his team shorthanded, Stefan Fournier led a 2-on-1 into the Sea Dogs’ zone and fed Brent Andrews, who buried his second goal of the series to tie the game 1-1.

The Moose got a power play halfway through the third period, but Auger stood his ground.

The 18-year-old netminder, who was pulled halfway through Game 1, made one of his best stops of the night with his blocker to deny Martin Frk’s one-time bullet.

Halifax went back on the power play a short time later, and Boudreau scored the winner on a hard wrister from the inside edge of the right wing circle.

The Dogs pulled Auger with 1:13 left in the third, but could not generate a good chance to score.

Auger made 43 saves in the loss.

Fucale earned his second win of the series with 14 saves.

The series shift to Harbour Station for the next two games.

Game 3 is Tuesday night.

NOTES: Scratches were Ian Saab (suspended), Steven Duda (healthy) and Brett Malone (healthy)….F Stephen Anderson (undisclosed) left the game after the second period and did not return….After combining for 18 points in Game 1, the line of Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin and Martin Frk was held pointless by Saint John in Game 2….The Sea Dogs set a new mark for fewest shots in a playoff game (15) for the second night in a row….The back-to-back losses are the first for Saint John in the playoffs since Games 5 and 6 of the President’s Cup finals against Moncton on May 8th and 10th, 2010….Attendance was 9,551.

HALIFAX – Martin Frk scored netted five goals and eight points as the Halifax Mooseheads crushed the Saint John Sea Dogs, 11-1, in the opening game if their first round President’s Cup playoff match-up.

Jason Cameron had the only goal for the Sea Dogs.

The Moose now have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The big blow for Saint John came in the second period when Halifax scored eight times.

Halifax seized momentum early after a pair of Sea Dog penalties gave the Moose a two-man advantage.

But goalie Sebastien Auger made numerous big saves until Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring after one penalty expired.

The Cole Harbour-native buried the rebound of a shot blocked by Olivier Leblanc.

MacKinnon scored again about three minutes later, slipping through the defence and burying a deke.

Cameron cut the deficit to 2-1 less than a minute later.

The veteran centre played the puck from the left wing corner for Jakub Izacky behind the net.

Izacky returned the puck on a short side pass and Cameron backhanded it past Zach Fucale, who was looking the wrong way.

The real turning point in the game came in the opening minute of the second.

Saint John defenceman Ian Saab was assessed a five-minute major for high-sticking and a game misconduct for getting his stick up on Moose forward Jonathan Drouin.

Ex-Sea Dog Stephen MacAulay snapped home a power play goal 95 seconds into the period.

Frk got his first of the night less than a minute later while the Moose were still on that five-minute power play, and Halifax led 4-1.

That opened the floodgates.

Frk netted two more to complete a natural hat trick at the halfway point of the middle frame.

Brent Andrews made it 7-1 under a minute later.

Auger was then replaced in goal by Alex Fournier.

With six minutes left in the second, Frk set up Stefan Fournier with a back-door pass for a power play goal.

Frk netted his fourth of the night with under four minutes left.

And Dominic Beauchemin wrapped up the eight-goal period with a one-timer off a clean face-off win by MacAulay in the Sea Dogs’ zone.

Frk completed a record-setting night with a breakaway goal eight minutes into the third for his fifth tally of the game.

The Czech winger and Detroit draft pick ended the game with eight points, which set a new Mooseheads’ team record for points in a playoff game.

Game 2 is Saturday night at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Catch all the action LIVE on News 88.9 beginning at 6:45 p.m.

NOTES: Sea Dog scratches were Connor Donaghey (healthy), Steven Duda (healthy) and Jeremy Doucet (healthy)….The eleven goals against is the most Saint John has ever allowed in a playoff game. New franchise marks were established in numerous categories, including goals against in a period (8), shots against in a period (24 – twice), shots allowed in a game (59) and largest margin of defeat (10)….Izacky and Marcus Cuomo were the only players who weren’t a minus on the night. After a late change in the summary, they both finished even….The eight-goal second period came a day short of the one-year anniversary of when the Sea Dogs buried eight in the second period against Cape Breton in Game 1 of the 2012 playoffs….Attendance was 9,120.

Three Stars: 1. Frk (HAL) 2. Drouin (HAL) 3. MacKinnon (HAL) Top Dog: Cameron

Game Highlights:

Jason Cameron Goal, 12:48 1st:

CHARLOTTETOWN – The PEI Rocket scored four unanswered goals in the third period on their way to an 8-5 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs on the final day of the regular season.

Jason Cameron, Jakub Izacky, Pierre Durepos, Maxime Villemaire and Marcus Cuomo scored for the Sea Dogs.

Saint John (23-44-1) lost four straight to end the regular schedule.

The Rocket (41-23-3-1) enter the playoffs ridng a six-game winning streak.

PEI got on the board first when captain Josh Currie found the net behind Alex Fournier seven-and-a-half minutes into the opening period.

Cameron responded just shy of the fifteen-minute mark.

The PEI-native took a back door pass from Izacky to the right of the net and tucked it past Rocket goalie Antoine Bibeau to tie the game 1-1.

The home team re-took the lead one minute later when Yan Pavel Laplante pounced on a loose puck in the low slot and snapped it inside the right post.

But Saint John tied the game again on the power play with just under a minute left in the period.

Durepos kept the puck in at the right point, moved across the blueline into the left wing circle, and found Izacky just off the goalline to the right wing side of the net.

The Sea Dogs’ leading goal scorer chipped it off Bibeau’s glove and in to create a 2-2 tie.

The second period included a bizzare sequence about six-and-a-half minutes in.

Oliver Cooper was getting an initial penalty in the PEI zone.

As play came to a halt in the Saint John zone, Rocket enforcer Patrick McGrath sucker-punched Villemaire, seemingly unprovoked, with a couple of right hands, while his linemate Jack Nevins pummeled blueliner Jurij Repe.

McGrath and Nevins were assessed major penalties for being the aggressor, along with game misconducts, while Cooper and Repe got minors.

That created the rarely seen 3-on-3 for a full two minutes.

The Rocket used their skill to jump out to a 3-2 lead less than a minute after play resumed when Ben Duffy broke in and scored on a deke.

A little over a minute later – and still in the 3-on-3 Duffy set up Louick Marcotte on a 2-on-1 to make it a 4-2 game.

But Saint John got back to within one when their three-minute 5-on-3 power play was in effect.

From the middle of the point, Durepos blasted a slap shot just underneath the crossbar to make it 4-3.

The Dogs tied the game on another power play with eight minutes left in the period.

Just like the Durepos goal, the Saint John captain hammered a slapper which Bibeau stopped with his right shoulder.

But the puck bounced behind him and Villemaire was able to swat it in to tie the game 4-4.

Saint John took the lead with less than two minutes to go in the frame.

Rookie Matthew Highmore corralled a dump-in in the left wing corner, charged along the goalline and forced Bibeau to make a good, low save.

Fellow freshman Cuomo dove head-long to snap home the rebound and Saint John led 5-4 after two.

It was all Rocket in the third, though.

Victor Provencher buried a power play goal 72 seconds into the third period to tie the game at 5-5.

About six minutes later, Marcotte strucj for his second of the game.

Then Currie tacked on two more just over two minutes apart to give PEI an 8-5 advantage.

Currie was on the ice for much of the final six minutes in search of this 50th goal, but he ended the season with 49.

Fournier had to leave the game with just over three minutes left in the third after a long shot from Currie hit him in the mask, followed quickly by a Rocket stick.

He ended up with a chip in one of his front teeth.

HALIFAX – Andreas Tsogkas scored the only goal as the Saint John Sea Dogs fell 3-1 to the Halifax Mooseheads at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Saint John (23-43-1) has now dropped four games in a row.

The Mooseheads (57-6-3-1) have five straight victories.

Saint John had two excellent chances to score in the first period.

Stephen Anderson dumped a puck into the Halifax zone and won a race to the loose disk off the end boards.

His shot beat Moose goalie Chris Clarke, but went off both posts and stayed out of the net.

A short time later, Oliver Cooper fired a shot from a sharp angle on the left wing that got through Clarke’s legs, only to slide through the crease inches from the goal line.

Halifax opened the scoring with just under four minutes to go in the frame when Domenic Beauchemin took a drop pass in the left wing circle and fired a shot that beat Sebastien Auger high on the glove side.

The Moose doubled its lead five minutes into the second on a power play.

Mackenzie Weegar sent a slap shot from the middle of the point that hit teammate Darcy Ashley and dropped at his feet.

The newly-crowned QMJHL hardest-working player, who took the hit that drew the penalty call, backhanded a shot past Auger on the blocker side with the goaltender already committed to the initial shot.

In the third period, high-ranking prospect Nathan MacKinnon extended the lead to 3-0, picking up a loose puck on the left side of the Saint John zone, darting to the net and beating Auger with a deke on a shot between the goaltender’s legs.

Tsogkas got the Sea Dogs’ only marker with about six-and-a-half minutes to go.

With Saint John shorthanded, the 19-year-old forward caused a turnover in ther neutral zone, broke in from the blueline and sent a backhand shot under Clarke to get Saint John within two.

But that’s as close as the team would get.

Auger earned second star honours with 24 saves.

The Mooseheads won the season series 7-1.

The Sea Dogs wrap up their regular season Sunday in Charlottetown against the PEI Rocket.

Saint John sits in 16th overall, two points behind Sherbrooke, after the Phoenix lost in a shootout in Rouyn-Noranda on Friday night.

They would play Halifax in the first round if the playoffs started today.

The Dogs can still move up to 15th spot with a win and a Sherbrooke loss in regulation time on Saturday in Val-d’Or.

Catch the Sea Dogs and Rocket LIVE on News 88.9 beginning at 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

NOTES: Sea Dog scratches were Jason Cameron (lower body), Steven Duda (healthy), Jeremy Doucet (healthy)….Cameron’s injury is not considered serious….Both the Sea Dogs and Mooseheads attended the funeral for ex-Saint John F Stephen MacAulay’s mother in Cole Harbour earlier in the day on Friday. Former Sea Dog captain and current Florida Panther Jonathan Huberdeau flew in to show support to the MacAulay family. Jason Seed and Spencer MacDonald – both ex-Sea Dog defencemen – also drove in from PEI….MacAulay did not play Friday night….Saint John had won the last five season series between the two teams, with a combined record of 30-6-1-1, before going 1-7 this year….Halifax had eight power plays, meaning the Sea Dogs have given opponents 27 power play chances in the last three games, allowing eight goals….Attendance was 10,595, a sellout.

Three Stars: 1. Ashley (HAL) 2. Auger (SJ) 3. Clarke (HAL) Top Dog: Tsogkas

MONCTON – The Moncton Wildcats scored four power play goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs at the Moncton Coliseum.

Brett Malone had the only goal for Saint John (23-42-1), which, despite the loss, still won the season series, five wins to three.

Moncton (41-22-2-1) scored first just before the seven-minute mark of the first.

Yannick Veilleux cut out from behind the net and had a clear chance to Sebastien Auger’s left.

He deked his way into the crease, but lost the puck, allowing Stephen Johnson to tap in the opening goal.

Veilleux notched a power play goal seventy seconds later, roofing the rebound of a blocked point shot from right in front of Auger.

Veilleux added another man advantage goal with under two minutes left in the period.

The former Shawinigan Cataractes forward spun off the right wing boards into the slot and ripped a wrister past Auger’s glove to make it 3-0 Moncton after one period.

The Sea Dogs’ struggles continued early in the second.

Jurij Repe tripped Christophe Lalonde to prevent a shorthanded breakway, but Lalonde made Saint John pay with a shorthanded marker on an ensuing penalty shot just over three minutes into the middle frame.

Still on the power play, Malone got the Sea Dogs back to within three about ninety seconds later.

Pierre Durepos took a shot from the middle of the point that just missed the goal on the right side.

The puck bounced off the back boards to the side of the net where Malone, the ex-Wildcat, tapped it in behind Cole Holowenko.

Moncton restored its four-goal lead on a late power play goal from Lalonde, who tipped in a point shot from Phillip Danault.

Veilleux completed his hat trick on a power play three minutes into the third period on another tip-in of a Danault shot.

Auger made forty saves in the loss.

With the win, and a sellout at the Coliseum, Moncton came back to win the Rivalry Cup, 18-17.

The Sea Dogs remain one point behind the Sherbrooke Phoenix for 15th overall in the QMJHL standings, with two games each left to play.

SYDNEY, NS – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles scored two power play goals in the third period to come from behind and edge the Saint John Sea Dogs, 3-2, at Centre 200.

Maxime Villemaire and Michael Abbott scored for Saint John (23-41-1), which ended up winning the season series 5-3.

The Eagles (14-43-3-5) have now won two of their last three games.

Saint John got on the board first nine minutes into the first period.

Mackenzie Brown carried the puck up the left wing on a shorthanded 2-on-1, and found Villemaire streaking to the net.

Villemaire tipped it high, past the blocker of Eagles’ goalie Alex Bureau to open the scoring.

Cape Breton tied it on a power play when Zachary Moody beat Saint John netminder Alex Fournier with 28.3 seconds left in the period.

Saint John took the lead again almost exactly one period later.

Defenceman Michael Abbott sent a one-timer past Bureau’s glove for a power play goal with 28.7 seconds to go in the second period, and the Sea Dogs carried a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

But penalties continued to plague Saint John in the third.

Cape Breton tied the game on a 5-on-3 halfway through the final frame when Charles-Eric Legare ripped home a wrister from the right circle.

The Eagles netted the game winner on a man-advantage as well.

A long shot from the left point by overage blueliner Jonathan Oligny got past Fournier with six minutes left.

Fournier was quite upset after the goal, believing he had been interfered with by an Eagle forward.

Saint John pulled the goaltender with about a minute left, but could not tie the game.

Fournier made 31 saves in defeat.

The Dogs are in Moncton on Wednesday for the last regular season match-up with the arch-rival Wildcats.

SAINT JOHN – Stephen Anderson and Maxime Villemaire scored five minutes apart midway through the third period to give the Saint John Sea Dogs a 2-1 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in front of a sold-out crowd at Harbour Station.

Saint John (23-40-1) snapped a three-game losing skid in the team’s final home game of the regular season.

The Titan (25-32-5-2) and Sea Dogs split the season series at four wins apiece.

Much like the last game between the two clubs, it featured a frenetic pace throughout.

The game remained scoreless through two periods, with the main highlight coming early in the second period when Saint John killed off a 5-on-3 for 1:57.

Bathurst got on the board seven minutes into the third.

Patrik Zdrahal gained the Sea Dogs’ zone on the right wing, turned into the middle and fired a wrister back toward the far post and beat Sebastien Auger about waist-high.

But Anderson responded just 63 seconds later.

The second-year forward intercepted a Titan clearing pass in the slot and ripped a wrist shot past the blocker of goalie Jacob Brennan.

Villemaire snared the winner with just under seven minutes left.

Jakub Izacky led a rush that began deep in his own zone, all the way through centre ice and across the Titan line on the right wing.

As he cut into the middle, Izacky lost control of the puck.

But it worked as a drop pass for Villemaire, and the overage forward fired a snap shot that beat Brennan on the glove side.

Saint John held off a late Bathurst charge to earn the victory and move within one point of 15th-place Sherbrooke in the overall standings.

Sebastien Auger was named first star for the second straight game with 44 saves.

The Dogs play their final four games on the road, beginning Sunday against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Catch all the action LIVE on News 88.9 beginning at 3:45 p.m.

NOTES: Scratches were Jeremy Doucet (healthy), Michael Abbott (healthy), and Mackenzie Brown (healthy)….Villemaire, Ian Saab and Pierre Durepos were all honoured in a pre-game ceremony recognizing the team’s graduating 20-year-old players. Each was given his white Sea Dog jersey….Former Sea Dog and Saint John native Aidan Kelly returned to Harbour Station for the first time as a visitor. He registered one hit and was one of only two Titan players who did not register a shot on goal….Attendance was 6,488 – the team’s only sellout of the regular season.

Three Stars: 1. Auger (SJ) 2. Anderson (SJ) 3. Villemaire (SJ) Top Dog: Izacky
