Sea Dogs Blast The Rocket

CHARLOTTETOWN – Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice as part of a four-point night as the Saint John Sea Dogs blasted the Rocket, 10-1, on P.E.I.

The Saint John captain, who was also named first star, got the offence going with a goal just over four minutes in.

He closed out the scoring with less than eight minutes left, allowing the Sea Dogs to reach double digits against the Rocket for the second time this season.

Tomas Jurco and Maxime Villemaire also scored twice while Oliver Cooper, Charlie Coyle, Stanislav Galiev and Danick Gauthier added singles.

Goalie Mathieu Corbeil made 21 stops for the win.

The game got chippy early, with three first period fights, highlighted by the third engagement between Sea Dog forward Grant West and Rocket winger Alex Gallant.

The victory extends Saint John’s win streak to ten games.

They’ll try to make it eleven straight Friday night when they host the Quebec Remparts at Harbour Station.

NOTES: Sea Dog scratches were Devon Oliver-Dares (broken collarbone), Aidan Kelly (flu), Ian Saab (suspended) and Jason Cameron (suspended)….Ryan Tesink returned to the lineup after missing three games with soreness in his surgically-repaired knee. Still, the team could only dress 19 skaters….Every Sea Dog skater finished at +1 or better….Only Jason Seed, Spencer MacDonald and Stephen MacAulay failed to register at least one point….Corbeil assisted on Villemaire’s first goal for his second helper of the season….A team has only scored 10+ goals three times this season in the QMJHL. Saint John has done it twice – both against the Rocket – while Quebec did it once. For more than half the game, Saint John had more goals than the Rocket had shots. Huberdeau has now scored in four straight games (seven goals) dating back to his game winner in Shawinigan.
