Sea Dogs Beat Mooseheads

SAINT JOHN – Stephen MacAulay’s goal just over a minute into the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and held up as the winner, as the Saint John Sea Dogs crushed Halifax 7-3 at Harbour Station.

MacAulay finished off a wraparound attempt by Tomas Jurco not even thirty seconds after the Mooseheads tied the game.

Charlie Coyle and Tomas Jurco each scored twice while Danick Gauthier and Aidan Kelly added one each.

Mathieu Corbeil picked up the win in goal with 29 saves.

Saint John has won five of the six meetings between the two teams.

The Sea Dogs are in Bathurst Sunday.

NOTES: Sea Dog scratches were Ryan Tesink (knee), Stanislav Galiev (wrist), Devon Oliver-Dares (head) and Maxime Villemaire (not with team)….Forward Mackenzie Brown was called up from Woodstock (MHL) to allow Saint John to dress a full lineup of 18 skaters. He earned an assist, and was the team’s only ‘minus’ player on the night at -1….Announced attendance was 6,488 at Harbour Station, the Dogs’ first sellout of the season….Jason Seed thought he had scored his first Sea Dog goal part way through the third period, only to have it waved off by the officials….Coyle and Jurco each recorded eight of the teams 41 shots on goal. Coyle’s goals in the first period came nine seconds apart, setting a team record for quickest back-to-back goals by an individual (previously held by Mike Hoffman) and tying a team record for quickest back-to-back goals by any two players (previosusly held by Payton Liske and Andrew Howes).
