Song of the Week (Feb 9)

February 10th, 2011 by Scott

My blog thingy wasn’t working good last week, so I’m posting 2 songs of the week today to make up for last week.  Enjoy!

#1

The Strokes are back!!  Their first new album since 2006 is coming out.  I’ve always liked this band..and I love this track, it’s a good mix olf new and old.  It’s called Under The Cover Of Darkness.  What you think?

#2

Hey Rosetta! is a band I found by accident.  I was sent their CD, it got slapped on the pile (I get a lot) and one day needed a CD for my car…didn’t even think about which one I picked.  The next thing I knew, I was singing all their songs as loud as possible, and the album never left my player.  I’ve seen them live a handful of times and can’t say enough about their musicianship or energy on stage.  They are the entire package.  Their new album coming out next tuesday (Feb 15) and I’ve already pre-ordered it on iTunes.  This song is called “Yer Spring”.

Song Of The Week (Jan 26)

January 26th, 2011 by Scott

You may not know, but I’m also the Music Director on Rock 106…so that means a lot of my day is spent listening to new music (hard job eh?).  So I’m going to try to post a cool song of the week, and hopefully get your feedback on it.  I think this is cool, you may not…let’s starts a dialouge.

This week I’m featuring a band called Pop Evil.  You may remember their song “100 in a 55” which we played on Rock 106 a while back.  This song is called Last Man Standing.  What do you think?

Life After Ted Williams

January 21st, 2011 by Scott

Looks like Ted Williams isn’t the only Golden Voiced person looking for work….

Suck it up Buttercup(s)

January 11th, 2011 by Scott

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will not be attending the Oscars this year because of the impression Anne Hathaway’s impression of her during this SNL skit.  Which to me is surprising, cause I didn’t know SNL was still on TV anymore.  Let’s be honest Tom, you’re justupset Knight & Day wasn’t nominated..

The impression of Miley is right on!  HAHA, she’s such an idiot.

The OzzMan Brisk-ish

Hey remember him?

Former band mates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have gotten back together to record a song for the new Foo Fighters album!

Sixteen years after the Nevermind rockers split following frontman Kurt Cobain’s suicide, the band’s drummer and bassist joined forces in Grohl’s garage recording studio – and the collaboration was overseen by former Nirvana producer Butch Vig.”

This is really great for Krist’s career, since the only thing he’s done after Nirvana is Grow a unabomber Beard.

Lethbridge Bike Lanes

October 26th, 2010 by Scott

Lethbridge now has (some) Bike Lanes just in time for Winter!!  It’s about time.  Biking is a great way to get around, it’s free (once you buy a bike) and healthy.  Just make sure and wear your long undies..

From the City Of Lethbridge

Residents will now benefit from newly installed dedicated bicycle lanes along 13 Street between 26 Ave N and 9 Ave N. This is the first project completed as part of a larger Pathways and Bicycles Master Plan.

“We are very excited that the bike lanes on the North side are complete,” says Transportation Planning Manager Ahmed Ali. “Residents can also look forward to additional bike lanes being added in the future.”

About Bike Lanes
A bike lane is a wide, signed lane marked with a large white bicycle stencil on the pavement. The lane is restricted to bicycle travel.
• On streets where there is on-street parking, bike lanes run to the left of parked vehicles.
• On streets without parking, bike lanes run alongside the curb.
• By providing a delineated bike lane it will improve cyclist safety by reducing potential conflicts between vehicular and bicycle traffic in the existing shared curb lane.
• The presence of clearly defined bike lane will also encourage vehicular traffic to travel a safe distance from the path of cyclists.

Safely Using Bike Lanes
With the symbols displayed in the bicycle lanes, motor vehicles, buses, and motorcycles are not permitted to travel or stop in this lane unless making a right turn onto a cross street. Transit buses may stop only at designated stops for passengers.

Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers. The Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act and City bylaws apply to bicycles too. Take some time to learn or remind yourself of what you should do as a cyclists and driver.

Basic safety principles for cyclists:
• Maintain your bike in good working order
• Be as visible as possible to others
• Learn the skills needed to control your bike
• Cycle in traffic safely and predictably
• Know and obey the rules of the road, which includes;
o Obey all traffic regulations and speed limits
o Yield to bus when it is leaving a stop
o Signal before turning
