BBQ Season is here!

Monday, May 4th, 2009

This weekend I bought my very first BBQ!  I was so excited, I called my friends and invited them over that night.  The only problem was, I didn’t yet build the actually BBQ.  You see, BBQs now-a-days come from China and need to be put together like something from Ikea.  I read on the stores website that someone said they put it together in 20 mins.  So we started marinating the steaks and at 7:30pm I started my building.  My friends were coming over at 8pm, so I figured I would have it together just in time.  Now, I’m not the best Do-It-Yourself kinda guy…but I thought hey, how hard could it be.  4 hours later, 3 of us finally had the BBQ together.

The Saying: “Don’t Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch”…may have to be changed to “Don’t Invite The Friends Before The BBQ is Built”.

What’s your favourite thing to grill?

Matthew Good did an interview with The Canadian Press recently, talking about his new album “Vancouver” and also expressed thoughts about the Junos and why he’s never gone to the awards show despite the face he’s won a bunch of times…saying:

“When it’s actually a television broadcast that celebrates actual Canadian music, rather than who’s doing well internationally and has been in car commercials and iPod commercials … I’ll go,”

Now to a music outsider this may seem like Matt is bashing Canadian Music, etc…but as someone that has attended the Junos many times..I must say..he’s right. The Junos are based on album sales.  If you sell a ton of records you will will a Juno.  The idea that a high selling record shouldn’t win a record may come to you as a shock, but in my opinion just because an album sells 1 million copies doesn’t necessarily mean it’s any good.  Example: Paris Hilton’s debut album sold 1.6 Million copies world wide.  That’s right 1.6 Million people actually bought that wretched disc…does that mean it’s any good??  I’ll let you assume the answer.

The Junos, in my opinion, should be a vehicle not for labels, but for quality.  I would much rather listen to the greatest album no one has ever heard of than the biggest seller with the most amount of trophies.

10 Books (not) to read.

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

The AOL Shopping website has put together a list of “10 Books to Read Before You Die,” based on a Harris Poll that asked 2,413 U.S. adults to name their favorite books.

Here’s the list…and reasons NOT to read them.

  1. The Holy Bible — Never heard of it.
  2. Gone With the Wind — The title of his book should be “Lethbridge”
  3. The Lord of the Rings — The author of this book has too many initials.  3 really J.R.R.?  Pick 2 and stick with it, we’re at war.
  4. Harry Potter series — How old are you 6?
  5. The Stand – When this came out on VHS it was 4 tapes long.  Something tells me it will take you 100 years to finish.
  6. The Da Vinci Code — Tom Hanks isn’t mentioned in the book once!
  7. To Kill a Mockingbird — 3 Words…Don’t Feed It.
  8. Angels and Demons — See #1
  9. Atlas Shrugged – Just get a Globe!
  10. The Catcher in the Rye — This book is the reason John Lennon was shot.  Do you want to be a psychopathic killer?  If yes, read this book.

The Gym

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I joined a gym with my girlfriend.  I know, it’s the start of the year and it is the time when most people join gyms…then drop it months later.  BUT this is gonna stick…and I’m pretty excited.  It’s better to work out if you have someone to go with…so if you are thinking of joining…bring a friend. I bought one of those ipod shuffles so I’ll have some sweet rock n roll to listen to while I pump iron. Do they still make weights out of iron?

By the time I’m done I’m gonna look like this!

Winter Driving in Lethbridge

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I was driving to work this morning in the piles of snow and sliding on the roads and it hit me.  not another car but..An epiphany!  Everyone is mad about these roads in Lethbridge.  But honestly Winter driving has always been terrible in his city.  Granted this one is the worst I’ve seen, but generally speaking, winter has always been hard driving here.  And then it hit me…Mayor Bob, won an uncontested election.  Hey I like the guy just as much as the next fellow, but really…he won an uncontested election.  Clearly no one though they could do a better job.  Now I hate placing blame on people, but when you elect someone and they let you down…who do you have to blame? The Elected official most times…but in this case…no one else stepped up to the plate.  So we can complain about the roads in the city all we want, or we can just…(if I can get cheesy for a moment)…BE THE MIRACLE.  Clearly the city isn’t going to do Jack about this, so we have to.  We have to be the ones to help clear off our neighbors sidewalk…we have to be the ones to help someone one who is stuck in the snow instead of just turning our backs or driving past.  This year the people in the city gave themselves raises…and meanwhile we can get to work on time because most of us live in areas they say they’re not going to plow.  Remember this Lethbridge, remember the hard times, so when we come to a point where we can change things…BE THE MIRACLE.

Are we really this lazy?

Today, Honda has unveil a new robotic walking assistant prototype. You strap this puppy on and it’s supposed to reduce the load on your legs. I can see if your bending over or crouching a lot during the day then this could really help. Personally, most of my daily body energy is taken up by my brain trying to come up with different and funny ways to impress girls, so this could really come in handy. Think about it. If I’m currently using 95% of my energy to impress girls and this machine would take 50% of the load off of my body…that’s now 145% of my brain now being used to impress women. Making me virtually irresistible.

I should work for Google.

2009 Honda Civic

Monday, September 8th, 2008

The 2009 Honda Civic is here! And by Here…I mean in a few days Canadian Dealers will have it.

I’m a big fan of the Honda Civic and always try and stay on top of what changes come with the new model. I have a 2006 civic and love love love it! I wish they would come out with a Hybrid version of the coupe tho. Granted Honda tried to do a 2 door Hybrid called the Insight…but why wouldn’t you offer your highest selling coupe in a hybrid…seems like a no-brainer. Attention HONDA: Not Everyone that cares about the environment wants to drive a 4 door! That said, Honda is coming out with what they are calling a “Prius Killer” in 2009 for the 2010 year. Hopefully it looks cool.

Ok, back to the 2009 Civic. Looks like they have given us a new grill and front-side fenders. They say they now have “Clear Turn Signal Lenses”, but they look the same on the website. Guess we’ll have to wait till we can see them in person.

Here’s something to tide you over if you’re as embarrassingly obsessed as I am:
