Coldplay To Release Free Album..

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Coldplay will be giving away an exclusive live CD, titled LeftRightLeftRightLeft to all fans attending the Viva La Vida summer tour beginning May 15, the first date of the band’s North American tour and at every remaining live show in 2009. The CD will also be available as a free download during the same time period through their website http://www.coldplay.com.

“Playing live is what we love,” say Coldplay. “This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen.”

The current hit single/video from the seven-time GRAMMY® and two-time JUNO Award winners is “Life In Technicolor ii,” off of the Viva La Vida - Prospekt’s March edition. Coldplay have most recently been nominated for three awards at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards, the prestigious event which honours “excellence in British music writing.” The band are up for Most Performed Work and Best Selling British Song, both for “Viva La Vida,” as well as the Album Award for Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. The winners will be announced on May 21.

Coldplay have seven Canadian dates on their upcoming North American tour - beginning in Winnipeg on June 15 and then finishing off as headliners at this year’s Osheaga Festival in Montreal on August 1. Viva La Vida was the Top Selling Global Album of 2008 according to IFPI, the body that represents the recording industry worldwide.

The track listing for LeftRightLeftRightLeft is as follows:

1. Glass of Water

2. 42

3. Clocks

4. Strawberry Swing

5. The Hardest Part/Postcards From Far Away

Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Nickelback has released their new song as a free download to everyone who wants it. It’s a tactic used by Coldplay and worked out pretty well for them. Time will only tell if it will help them sell more records…not that Nickelback needs help with that. I believe they sold 20 Ka-Jillion copies of their last record so it will be interesting to see how this one does. They are such an over saturated band that no one can escape. Their songs are far reaching format-wise and if it seems like they are everywhere - it’s because they are.

In all honesty, I met Chad Kroeger when he was in Lethbridge last and the guy was super nice to us. He took us backstage into an area that normally we couldn’t go, just so that we could have a quiet place to do an interview…gave us drinks and food. So due to his kindness towards me and my co-workers I take that into account when I view the band. His songs are catchy and very radio-friendly. With that said I’m not getting to a point where I’m tired of the Standard Music Structure of: Verse / Chorus / Verse / Chorus / Chorus / Chorus. Maybe it’s because I listen to so much music and song lyrics make up 95% of my brain power (the other 4% is for girls and 1% is for pizza).

Do I like the song? No.
Will this song be played on the radio? Most likely.

But more importantly…What do you think of the song?

Death Will Never Conquer

Monday, July 14th, 2008

So Coldplay is starting their World Tour this week, and although I’m pretty choked they haven’t set an official Calgary date, they are trying their best to smooth it over today with a free download of a “song”…if you can call it that. You see the “song” is only 1:15 long..to be honest it’s more of a haiku (whatever that is).

NIN :: THE SLIP

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Trent Reznor is one of my heros. No only is he one of the most creative rockers of our generation, but he loves The Internet. That’s something you don’t often hear when it comes to musicians. I try and check his website (http://www.nin.com) as often as I can remember…because you never know what you’re going to see. Free NIN Downloads, Free NIN Graphics, limited edition autographed merch…it’s all there. Today he’s released another FREE ALBUM! This guy must have nothing but time to make music…

Don’t forget Nine Inch Nails is coming back to Calgary July 29th! See you at the show..

Art Of Dying

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

I get a ton of CDs come across my desk…and it’s cool because we get a chance to find out about bands who don’t get played on the radio all the time and aren’t really well known. With this Blog I hope to be able to introduce you to a lot of new music.

Art Of Dying

Art of Dying is a band from Vancouver. They’ve been featured in video game trailers and TV shows galore and some music directors have called them the best indie band in the country! The lead singer Jonny emails me often to keep me in the loop with what’s happening with the band, he wanted me to post a song for you to hear…and this is one of my favourtie songs from their record it’s called Get Thru This. This Track rips! It takes you out for seafood dinner and doesn’t call you the next day…
