Lethbridge Bag Ban

June 28th, 2012 by Scott

This week I’ve declared War on Single-Use Plastic Bags.  They are terrible for the environment. Every year Canadians use 9 Billion plastic bags, they blow down the street, dirty our community, choke our wildlife and take 1000 years to break down in a landfill. Recycling plastic bags is inefficient and most are made from non-renewable resources. It’s time Lethbridge, Alberta said good-bye once and for all to single-use plastic shopping bags. Many other cities have a ban on single-use plastic shopping bags, like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto, Fort McMurray. Some countries have an out-right ban on them as well like Italy, India, Bangladesh, Kenya and even China! In fact China has said their ban has saved 4.8 million tonnes of oil. It’s our future, lets save the oil we would use for bags and fill up our Jetpacks.  Click the link below to sign the petition!

CTV Lethbridge came to the radio station to talk to me about it this week.  CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO

Next Stop…Hollywood!

June 20th, 2012 by Scott

Lately I’ve been talking a lot about a movie being shot here in Lethbridge called Common Chord.  I first heard about the movie from Twitter, but have since been asked to act in the film (as an extra) in a few scenes…which has obviously got me really excited for the release.  It’s a local production with $275,000 budget which is nothing to sneeze at, and lots of talent from all over Canada.

The movie…from what I understand…is about a guy who is a young father but trying to make it in music, and has a daughter but his father doesn’t want him to have custody.  You can imagine this is a story that is likely true somewhere in the world.

Jason Cermak is the lead in the movie, but as you can imagine it’s very music intensive and that’s where Josh Fritz comes in.  They both joined me on The Afternoon Delight.

I have a lot of respect for Hedley

February 17th, 2012 by Scott

I’ve interviewed Hedley a few years ago and at that time had never really listened to a Hedley record. I followed that by going to a show…and was blown away. I don’t get blown away by concerts often, but they put on a show that was far more than I expected.  Jake (the lead singer) is so full of energy….he basically runs around non-stop for over an hour and a half. Granted he’s impressing 14 years old girls who are easily distracted by shiney objects…BUT…with that in the back of your head, the kid can sing and the band is pretty tight.

So when I had to chance to meet the guys when they came to Lethbridge, I jumped at the chance.  Now I’ve been to a lot of “Meet & Greets” and love going to them.  I love meeting bands…it’s kinda why I got into radio. Now normally bands will only meet a couple of people.  You can tell they don’t really want to be there and any chance to “connect” with your favourite rock star is lost cause you’re pushed through like cattle.  Hedley met with over 50 fans!  And they did it with a big fat smile on their face.  I’ve never seen so much energy with a bunch of guys before their concert.  If they come back, go see them.

Thanks to Jaime Vedres for taking my pic.  I’m an ugly sucka.
