Scott Taylor’s CITI Sports Reports

As expected, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ new stadium will be under construction as early as this summer. Premier Greg Selinger announced he would float a loan of $90 million to David Asper and the Blue Bombers in order to start construction on a new football stadium at the University of Manitoba. Asper has to pay back the loan by 2016. If he can’t, school and property taxes derived from the site of the current stadium will be used to repay the province.

7:15 NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

Last week, we talked about the Ottawa Senators as the toughest fifth-place team in the NHL. Well, heading into the weekend, it was pretty hard to argue that the toughest sixth-place team was the Detroit Red Wings.

The Wings, who were banged up for most of the season, have now won six in a row and moved from ninth to sixth in just 10 days. The Wings started the weekend only six points out of first in the Central Division. Look out.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup boys are headed to Phoenix for the Subway Fresh Fit 600 one of the longest races on one of the smaller tracks.

Phoenix is a one mile oval built in 1964 and those four big turns will leave more than a few tired drivers after 600 laps. The big race goes this coming Saturday night under the lights on Fox

5:15 PM COACH’S COMMENTARY

Hi everybody, it’s the coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM Afternoon Coach’s Commentary. For Rondex Limited, your 3M-loyal dealer at 177 Isabel Street. Where people, paint and performance come first.

Manitoba will have a new football stadium but it will be incumbent on David Asper to make his new mall at Polo Park a success or the taxpayer is going to be on the hook for the entire $137-plus million.

I’m one of those guys who wants a new football stadium, but I’m not sure the deal that was announced yesterday is the deal we were after. From 91 per cent private to potentially 100 per cent public, all based on David Asper’s business acumen, is a scary scenario
