Jim Balsillie’s attempt to bring the Phoenix Coyotes to Hamilton has been rejected by Arizona bankruptcy judge Redfield T. Baum.

In a 21-page document he said the court didn’t believe there was enough time to resolve all the various issues before the sale of the insolvent team to Balsillie for $212.5 million that was due to close June 29. The question now is: Who IS going to pay for the disaster that is the Phoenix Coyotes.

NASCAR executives say that they would be open to other foreign automobile manufacturers joining Toyota in American stock car racing.

In fact, this past weekend, chief executive Brian France said that while nothing was imminent, talks with several companies have been ongoing for a long time. Can you say Honda? Knew you could.

Hi everybody, it’s the coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM RED RIVER CO-OP SPEEDWAY REPORT. Brought to you by Red River Co-Op Speedway. The fastest sport on the Prairies!

It will be a great night of racing and don’t forget, if you bought tickets to any of the eight races that were cancelled because of the spring flood, you can redeem those tickets for a seat on Thursday night.

See you at Red River Co-Op Speedway this Thursday night.

4:50 PM BLUE BOMBERS REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS REPORT. Brought to you by Western Paint and Wallcovering. 521 Hargrave Street and 1510 St. Mary’s Road.

You have to love Mike Kelly. He’s not afraid to trade football players with his old team, the Edmonton Eskimos.
Yesterday, the Bombers dealt defensive back Willie Amos in exchange for 6-foot-8, 310-pound offensive lineman Thaddeus Coleman.

Coleman is 24 and should be a monster on the offensive line. He’ll be a great help — so long as the Bombers are actually able use another import on the offensive line.

The Pittsburgh Penguins might have shocked the Detroit Red Wings, but they didn’t shock themselves. Last Friday night at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena, the Penguins got a pair of goals from Maxime Talbot and a great goaltending performance from Marc-Andre Fleury en route to a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings in Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup final.

With the well-deserved win, Sidney Crosby got his first Stanley Cup and the Penguins avenged last year’s six-game loss to the Wings in the final.

Sunday at Michigan International Raceway, an amazing finish to the Michigan 400.

Mark Martin, who really wasn’t even trying to win the race, shut off his cooling unit and fans to conserve enough gas to watch the leaders, Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle run out of fuel on the final lap. Martin snuck past to steal the Michigan 400 and recored his 38th career victory.

4:00 PM RED RIVER CO-OP SPEEDWAY REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM RED RIVER CO-OP SPEEDWAY REPORT. Brought to you by Red River Co-Op Speedway. The fastest sport on the Prairies!

Aaron Holtan won the Modifieds, Rick Lowey finished No. 1 in the Super Trucks, Colin Kendall won the Super Stocks and Ricky Weiss beat Cody Skytland to win the Late Models.

I’ve had a chance to catch a number of Blue Bombers workouts this spring and guess what? Despite the fears of more than one Bomber fan, this looks nothing like the Jeff Reinebold Era.

In fact, if the offensive line jells and the defensive front seven gives the secondary a chance, this might not be a bad football team. The jury’s still out on quarterback Stefan LeFors and the kicking game, but the season doesn’t start for a few weeks. Plenty of time to figure that out.

According to ESPN The Magazine, driver/owner Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine during a random drug screening at Richmond International Raceway.

NASCAR suspended Mayfield on May 9 and Mayfield plans to sue, claiming the positive test resulted from a combination of prescription Adderall-XR and over-the-counter Claritin-D, which he takes for allergies. I, for one, believe him.

Hi everybody, it’s the coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM RED RIVER CO-OP SPEEDWAY REPORT. Brought to you by Red River Co-Op Speedway. The fastest sport on the Prairies!

It was another tremendous week at Red River Co-Op Speedway. Of course, the outstanding members of the Northern Late Model Racing Association can make any week a great week. That huge day begins tomorrow at 3 p.m. on the best little dirt track in the Upper Midwest.

After tomorrow’s events it will be off to Week 3 of the RRCS season. This Thursday, it’s a Modified Special night plus the exciting 4 cylinders. It’s always a fun night when the Modifieds take over and next Thursday, it should be a dandy evening just south of the city.

Remember, if you purchased tickets to any of the seven cancelled evenings in April, May and early June, you can use those tickets at any event except the NLRA late models. See you at the Red River Co-Op Speedway next Thursday.

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

It’s been said by many NHL veterans that in a seven-game series, you’re not in trouble until you lose a game at home. In the Staney Cup final, no team has lost a game at home yet and that’s why we’re where we are: Game 7 tonight.

Make no mistake, regardless of the outcome, this will be remembered as one of hockey’s greatest series. After all, it’s only the 14th time in NHL history – but the fifth time this decade – that we’ve had a seven-game final.

More importantly, however, the Moose will come home for both Games 6 and 7, Friday and Sunday.

There is nothing better than a seventh game of a Stanley Cup final and that’s what we’ll get tomorrow night when the Pittsburgh Penguins meet the Detroit Red Wings in the deciding game of this year’s NHL championship season.

This series has been better than advertised and when the puck drops tomorrow night in Detroit, there is definitely reason to believe that we’ll be in for something memorable. In fact, this just might be remembered as the best series in more than a decade.

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

Tonight, the Detrioit Red Wings can wrap up the Stanley Cup final with a win in Pittsburgh. Whether they win it tonight or not, isn’t what’s important today. What’s important is all the media idiots who suggested that after losing two in Pittsburgh, the Wings were done.

Done? They won 5-0 at home on Saturday night and looked exactly like the team they are. Good. They’re a good team. And good teams lose games in the other guy’s building in championship finals. Duh…

NASCAR executives have met with drivers and owners and they believe they have an answer for the problems being face by the sport these days: Lower attendances and lower TV ratings.

Good. Hope they’ve figured it out. Because what fans need is (a) cars that look like a real stock cars (b) a way to cut down on all the cautions and (c) shorter races. Do that, and both NASCAR’s ratings and attendances will rise.

Carl Edwards is the defending champ while Kasey Kahne won the fall race here. But my money is on the hottest driver on the circuit. Three-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will not only win this week, but take over the points lead once again.

Scott Taylor’s CITI Sports Reports

Tonight at the MTS Centre it’s the Manitoba Moose, trailing 1-0 in the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup final, up against the Hershey Bears in Game 2 of the final. The Bears won the opener 5-4 in overtime on Saturday night. More than 13,000 tickets have been sold for tonight’s game.

The Detroit Red Wings, leading 2-0, are in Pittsburgh for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final tonight. Quite an off-day yesterday. Neither Evgeni Malkin nor Sidney Crosby were made available to the media,
although Malkin will play for the Penguins tonight. Even though he should have been suspended for one game for picking up an instigator penalty with less than five minutes to play in Sunday’s Game 2, the league overturned the rule and will allow Malkin to play. Game 3, tonight in Pittsburgh 7 o’clock on CBC.

In other NHL news, the Montreal Canadiens’ hired Jacques Martin as their new head coach. Funny, nobody realized that he’d resigned as general manager of the Florida Panthers. And Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie has formally applied to the NHL to move the Phoenix Coyotes to Hamilton, Ont.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes’ five-game winning streak came to an end last night as the Fish were beaten 6-2 in Kansas City. Game 2 of this three-game series goes tonight. The first-place Goldeyes return home to play Fargo on Friday night.

The Blue Jays had yesterday off, they’ll open a series with the Angels at Rogers Centre tonight.

In the NBA Final, it will be the Los Angeles Lakers for the 30th time in franchise history against the Orlando Magic for the first time since 1995. The Final opens in L.A. on Thursday night at 8 on TSN.

In horse racing, a group of nine talented local 3-year-olds will try to be the first to put their foot on the Manitoba Derby trail with a win in the Golden Boy Stakes tomorrow night. The field includes last year’s Winnipeg Futurity winner Prayforthesoldiers.

And finally, some good news for local auto racing fans, the flood is gone. Red River Co-Op Speedway opens this Thursday with a Super Stock Special. $20 tickets are now being offered at just $15.

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

Here’s some sobering news for the Pittsburgh Penguins: History tells us that the winner of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final, wins the Cup 78.6 per cent of the time. When it’s the home team that wins Game 1, as Detroit did on Saturday night, the winning percentage increases to 87.9 per cent.

When the home team wins Games 1 and 2, it wins the Cup 97.6 per cent of the time. Regardless of what happens in Game 3 and even though the Penguins have yet to lose at home, they still need a miracle.

Team owner Richard Petty told nascar.com that the Chrysler bankruptcy has put cash flow from the manufacturer to the Richard Petty Motorsports organization that he co-owns with Montreal Canadiens owner George Gillett “in a holding pattern.”

“They’ve stopped everything,” Petty said. “They went into bankruptcy, and they’re sort of in a floating stage right now.” NASCAR people are worried about the state of the auto industry. They should be
