7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

Remember Jean-Sebastien Giguere? In case you did, he led the Anaheim Ducks to the Stanley Cup in 2007.

Giguere is still there, but he doesn’t play much anymore. The hero in Anaheim is now Jonas Hiller, a guy who has three rings – for the Swiss championship in 2002, 2005 and 2007. And if the Anaheim Ducks win Game 7 against Detroit tonight, he might win another ring this year. Along with a Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

2. Allowing coaches to use “wildcat” formations that would move the quarterback around, instead of requiring him to stand behind or under centre.
3. Requiring a team that makes a field goal to kick off rather than give the receiving the team the option of taking the ball at its 35-yard-line
4. Giving a team a third instant replay challenge if its first two are successful.

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

In the midst of all the absolute hooey filed by the NHL in the lawsuit against Jerry Moyes, the owner of the Phoenix Coyotes, finally came some truth in the Moyes bankruptcy filing. This is from the Coyotes Chapter 11 petition:

“Fans have not supported the Coyotes in sufficient numbers to make the club financially viable,” the motion reads. “Indeed, the Coyotes’ 12 years in Phoenix demonstrate little potential for the development of the fan base in Phoenix that is necessary to make the club financially viable.” The truth might hurt the folks in Phoenix, but it’s still the truth.

For the first time, a Sprint Cup driver has been suspended for violating NASCAR’s new random drug-testing policy.
Jeremy Mayfield, a five-time winner on NASCAR’s premier series currently driving for his own team, was suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed substance abuse violation.

That’s bogus. If a guy tests positive, NASCAR had better tell the fans what the violation was.

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

The Boston Bruins made a statement on Sunday night and now their Eastern Conference semifinal with the Carolina Hurricanes is on. OK, it was on a week ago, but Sunday night, Boston finally entered the fray.

The Bruins were the best team in the East all season, but over the last 6 weeks, the winningest team was clearly Carolina. For the first four games of this series, the ‘Canes owned the Bruins, but on Sunday, Boston won every aspect of the game in a 4-0 victory. In other NHL news, Gary Bettman has now admitted to being a bold faced liar. Yesterday, after three months of guaranteeing that the league had not taken over the Phoenix Coyotes, the NHL said it has been in control of the Coyotes franchise since last November and is asking a federal judge to throw out the team’s bankruptcy filing. Now we know Bettman has been lying since November.

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

In September, the Tampa Bay Lightning will be coming to Winnipeg to play the Edmonton Oilers, but unless the Lightning find new investors, Vincent Lecavalier night not be with them.

Lightning co-owner Len Barrie wants to keep Lecavalier in Tampa, but the St. Pete Times suggests the Lightning could trade Lecavalier around the June NHL Entry Draft in Montreal simply because the new ownership in Tampa owes $100 million and lost more money this year. Dumping Lecavalier could save them as much as $90 million.

THE REPORTS

7:15 NHL REPORT

Hi everybody, it’s the Coach Scott Taylor and it’s time now for the 92-CITI-FM National Hockey League Report. Brought to you by MAACO Collision and Auto Painting at 983 Wall Street.

The bankruptcy and potential sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie, is making NHL commissioner Gary Bettman look like a loon.

Bettman, who has found at least three owners who have gone to court for ethics violations of violations of fraud, can’t allow himself to believe that Balsillie, a successful, honest businessman, could move the Coyotes out of Bettman’s precious Arizona desert to Southern Ontario. It’s actually comical watching Bettman spit venom at the only who really WANTS to own an NHL franchise.

Ottawa’s Jarko Ruutu was third, followed by the Rangers Sean Avery and Philly’s Scott Hartnell. Well, it ain’t the players choice for MVP, but it is some notoriety nonetheless.

When the NASCAR Sprint Cup boys met up in Richmond last Saturday night, it was the 10th race of this NASCAR season. By the end of this month, we’ll be halfway to the end of the regular season.

So what have we learned? Three things: No. 1, Jeff Gordon, despite his bad back, is back; No. 2, Jimmie Johnson isn’t likely to win his fourth straight Sprint Cup; and No. 3, Matt Kenseth’s fast start didn’t mean very much at all.

General manager Dale Tallon has done a wonderful job rebuilding this franchise and with captain Jonathan Toews and a couple of other young Winnipeggers roaming the ice, there is reason to believe this team can challenge Detroit for the Western Conference crown.
