Don’t smoke… ever!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Word comes this morning from anti-smoking activists up in Edmonton, that they want the city to ban smoking in parks and playgrounds.  This comes after Metro Vancouver has decided to ban smoking in city parks and on beaches.

Question is… whats next?  I don’ smoke, but it seems like smokers aren’t being allowed to smoke… anywhere.  I was grateful  for the ban on smoking in public establishments and bars, but moving it to outdoors, may be crossing into a different area.  Let them smoke outside, cause if they don’t, they’ll smoke in their house with their kids around… or wherever they can sneak a smoke.

This is a tough one.  I’m all for the ban… but where does it end?

Costco

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Lets start this by saying how much I love Costco.  Go there once a week whether I need anything or not.   But lets be honest, how annoying are the line-ups?   Brutal.  There can be 5 people in the store and 4 of them will be line at the cashier.

Now this weekend I went to the Costco In Kalispell Montana.  There was no lineups.  None.   In fact the cashiers were in front of the tills… WANTING to help you.   Has that EVER happened at the Lethbridge Costco?  Let me answer that for you… no.   They have 24 workers walking around the store, stocking shelves or whatever, and 4 cashiers.  In Kalispell, it was just the opposite.  Couldn’t find a worker, but no line-ups at the tills.

Wonderful concept

Win #1!!!

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Got the first win last night in my daughter Paige’s Under-8 soccer.  I really thought there was a chance we could go the entire season without a win… and we got one in Game #2.  I think its the coaching,  I should maybe point out that I have been stripped of my head coaching responsibilites though, so I can’t take all the credit.   But I’ll tell ya what the key was… “Coach Dave” bringing Yogurt Tubes.  I’m sure the girls liked that more then the actual win.

Now I gotta get a win for my 5 year-old sons team… and I am actually coaching that team……………  for now

Smokin’ da Weed…

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

So yesterday was apparently National Pot Smokers Day.  The day where its socially acceptable to smoke marijuana… though still not LEGALLY acceptable.  My question is… why April 20th.

We took calls this morning and most people said it was a police code for a drug rap.  Not true.  It was Bob Marley’s birthday.  Not true.  The year The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia died.  Not true.  Adolf Hitler’s birthday.  Well it is on that day, but its hard to imagine that anyone, even pot smokers would “celebrate” that day.

The most common theory, and the correct one according to Wikipedia… is that back in 1971 a group of High School students down in the States, met after school at 4:20… and smoked pot.  And the 4:20 reference was a way for the kids to talk about it, without their parents knowing.  Its hard to believe that a “National holiday” would start this way… but at least according to Wikipedia… it is.

Soccer dad?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Coaching my first soccer game tonite.  Got NO IDEA what I’m doing.  I don’t know soccer, i don’t like soccer, I don’t get it.  But when you go to sign, in this case, my daughter up… they ask if you’re willing to coach.  Its always, “well I guess, if no one else does.”  Which quickly turns into head coaching responsibilities.  Thats what happened to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with coaching.  But seriosly, aren’t there parents… or even just adults who live for this stuff?  there has to be.  I’ll find out tonite when I ask EVERY OTHER PARENT if they wanna coach instead…

Juno’s

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Does anyone watch the Juno’s?  Its coming up Sunday from Newfoundland and I don’t know too many people who are looking forward to it.  I’m not.  I love Canadian music, and Nickelback and Theory of a Deadman are 2 of my favorite bands, but that still doesn’t make me wanna watch.

Do you?  Maybe you do. Maybe you celebrate Canadian music moreso then I do.  Either way… I’m sure we’ll be talking about it Monday morning

Welcome Back Winter

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Wow, what a way to wake up this morning.  There was a winetr storm warning in effect for our region… but really, what does that mean?  Well we found out overnight.

Got calls this morning from listeners who had their power knocked out.  And not just certain people, areas all over the city and region.  The roads were horrible… I had to go about 40 km/h in my cul-de-sac just to motor through the snow and slush.  Hi-ways weren’t any better, in fact from the reports we got, they were worse.

And schools in the city were closed… all of them.  When was the last time that ever happened?  It doesn’t happen when the temperatures is -38… but today… they were shut down.

Good news, it’ll all be slush soon as warmer temperatures and a sunny sky are on the way.

Happy Flying

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Good time to be flying right now… according to tourists.  Research by a study group down in the States, found that less people were complaining about air travel in 2009.   The study WAS quick to point out though, that although there were less complaints there were also fewer people flying.

I hate to fly and I flew in 2009, and as long as my plane doesn’t go down… I’m very happy with my flying and the airline.  The study found that most people were happy because less flights were delayed and there was less “lost baggage.”  I’ll tell ya why there was less lost baggage… because everyone takes there luggage on-board with them.  When I flew down to Phoenix, I was amazed at how many people just took a carry-on suitcase and that was it.  That WAS their suitcase.  That’s why there was less lost luggage because people had their luggage above them and if they lost their luggage, they likely weren’t gonna survive the plane crash they were just in.

Keep in mind, the findings are based on an analysis of U-S government statistics, so Canadians still hate their airlines.

I hate the Blue Jays!!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

I always tell my kids not to use the word hate… its a bad word.  But I hate the Toronto Blue Jays.

We’re one game into the Major League Baseball season and they’re first game… epitomizes their last few years.  Pitcher Shawn Marcum has a no-hitter into the 7th inning, gives up a walk and a hit… then a home run and its a tie game.

To their credit, the Jays take the lead into the bottom of the 9th, but blow it and lose 5-4.  I texted my firends and told them and they all said the same thing… %#@&%!* Jays.   This is what they do.  I know there aren’t a lot of baseball fans out there, but I love it.  I will watch a baseball game over a hockey game anyday, but its soooo painful to watch your team, when they’re so painful to watch

Guess now I know what Oilers fans are going through
