Flames done?

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I don’t like the Calgary Flames, but its nice to see them in the playoffs.  Good for the area, and good for southern Alberta hockey fans.  Oilers aren’t in for sure, so it’d be nice to have ONE Alberta team in.

If the Flames don’t make the playoffs, they can look back at the Thursday night game in New York where they lost to the Islanders.   Most of their games are most wins, but this was definelty a must-win.  They didn’t.  They gave up a lead and lost 3-2.  Now I’ve never seen coach Brent Sutter smile anyway, but he’s surely not smiling these days.

Every game is a big game, they’re next must-win game goes Saturday afternoon in Boston.

Keep your hands off my food!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I thought we were done with this story.  3 new cases of food tampering has popped up in Calgary, all at south Calgary Sobey’s stores.   In one instance, a customer found a metal item inside an avocado and two other customers found pieces of metal inside kaiser buns.  Who does this?

Now I love Sobeys and would never be worried about what MAY be in my food.   But Calgary Police are telling residents there to inspect their groceries when they get home.  Could you imagine doing that?  I never would.  You just have to have a certain amount of trust… that that stuff ISN’T happening.  Getting your groceries home, and going through your fruits and vegetables and all your bakery items.  No one’s going to do that.

As of right now this is just a Calgary thing, but there’s no reason why it couldn’t or wouldn’t happen anywhere else.  All it takes is one dirtbag to do something like this.  Lets hope that dirtbag isn’t in our area.

Tiger

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Tiger Woods had his first real interviews this weekend after his… transgressions came to light.  he really didn’t say a whole lot, and it woulda been nice for him to say something with a little more meat.

He did say he’s excited and nervous about competing at The Masters in early April, his first tournament back.  He says he doesn’t know what kind of reception he’ll get from the fans.  I’ll tell ya.   It’ll be fine.  No one agrees with what Tiger did, but no one in the golf world is going to “boo” him for that.  Its golf for crying out loud.  There is no booing in golf.  Just won’t happen, especially if he’s in the running for a Green Jacket on Sunday.  If this was hockey, yeah he’d get boo’ed everytime he touched the puck in an opposing teams rink.  there is no “opposing team’s rink” in golf… every round is a home event.  He’ll be fine… and the fans re-action will be tame for Tiger

Breathalyzer’s

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Love your opinoin on something our Federal Government may put in place.  Random Breathalyzers.

The Federal Justice Department has posted a discussion paper on its website, noting that breath-testing provisions in the Criminal Code are now 40-years-old.  In some countries around the world police can require motorists stopped at roadside checks to submit to testing.
Last fall, N-D-P Leader Jack Layton indicated he would support such tests.   But many oppose the law, concerned that giving police the power to act randomly would be a violation of a person’s right to protection against unreasonable search and seizure.
Go to the governments website… to give them your thoughts

Celebrity death

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Do we call Corey Haim a celebrity? I guess… probably.
He died early this morning and reports say he died of an accidental drug overdose. What is that? How do you “accidentally” take too many drugs? Isn’t that the point of drugs? I don’t get the term “accidental drug overdose” for that reason. If you’re taking drugs… there’s always a chance you could take too much. Does that make it “accidental”? No. Its like when AMA a few years back wanted us to say there were no hi-way “accidents”, someone was always to blame, so they were never “accidents”. They were collisions.
Corey Haim didn’t accidentally die from a drug overdose… he died because he’s an idiot who took too many drugs.

Oscar Buzz

Monday, March 8th, 2010

You watch the Oscars Sunday night?  I watched them, partly because I like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin who were hosting, but moreso because my job tells me I have to.

That 4 hour show can be wrapped up in 26 minutes.   Maybe a little opening monologue… Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Movie.   Annnnd done.   Sound Editing?  Nope.  Original Score?  Don’t care.   Live Action Short?  Don’t even know what that is.  Lets get to the heart of it, and if ya wanna televise something, show the after parties.  Thats what people wanna see anyway.   Penelope Cruz hitting on George Clooney.  See… I’d like to see that.   NOT Best Art Direction.

26 minutes.  Lets make it happen.

Hello Spring?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

What is the deal-ee-o with the weather?  Should we be concerned?  Is this Global Warming?   Plus double-digit temperatures through the weekend.   This is the time many parts of North America are getting hit with snowstorms, and we’re getting ready to bring out the ball gloves, golf clubs, and sunscreen.

Heads up… snow in the forecast for Tuesday.

Don’t Drink The Water!!!

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Just kidding.  The City of Lethbridge has announced a PSA:  Recent warm weather run-off has affected the quality of the water being withdrawn from the river for our community water supply.   To maintain water quality, higher levels of chlorine and other treatment chemicals are being added to the water supply. As a result, customers may experience a stronger chlorine taste and odor to their water over the next week. The city reminds us… the water is still safe to drink.

Leave Your Footprint

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Apparently Canadians aren’t doing enough to help the environment.  Only 1 in 5 Canadians gave themselves an “A” when it comes to their personal environmental efforts.  Here’s things we can do:

1) Leave the car at home.  If we drive just 10% less, we save almost 600 kilograms in CO2 emissions over a year.

2) Eat Local.  60% of our food is imported.  If we eat local, it will cut down on travel… getting food to us.

3) Be energy efficient.  Buy energy efficient appliances… it will save you a boatload on your energy bill.

Do your part.

Don’t fire THEM!!!!

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Times are tough, I get that.  But if there’s one group of people who shouldn’t be getting laid off… its people who do maintenance on airplanes.  This after Air Canada announced its laying off 1,010 machinists from around the country.

Now as someone who hates to fly, the last thing I wanna think about when I’m flying, is whether or not the plane is safe.  If the guy that was supposed to duct tape the wing back on… was fired last week.   DON’T TELL ME THAT!!!  Lay off the unpleasant people at the check-in counter… NOT the guy who tightens the lug-nuts.  Fire a baggage-handler if ya have to… not the dude who checks the pressure in the tires.

Its not fair to them, and more importantly… NOT FAIR TO ME!!

Oh yeah, keep the pilots too.
