Last Friday was the 55th anniversary of John Lennon and Paul McCartney meeting and today is the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones first gig.
So that brings up the ultimate question for fans of rock n’ roll, Beatles or Stones?
For me, as great as I think The Rolling Stones are and as prolific they have been, I am a Beatles guy.
There are two major arguments as far as I’m concerned, first, without The Beatles there wouldn’t have been The Rolling Stones. They were groundbreaking.
Second, Helter Skelter.
If you didn’t know who that was, and Dave Grohl sang it, it would sound like a new Foo Fighters song. The list of bands that are that ahead of their time is very few, and perhaps only at one.
To me if you are more of a classic hard rock fan this would be like comparing Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, one had a short, influential burst the other is prolific and had longevity.
