What a day what a day Cabbie and the Commish on the same show, it is must listen for sure, the only better if we interviewed them both at the same time.
It is the next day in the rest of your life territory for the Flames tonight, coming off the debacle in San Jose they face a team they haven’t beaten in the regular season in nearly 2 years the Hawks.
We often say that a team or a player maybe in your head and most times when we do that it is for effect to emphasize a point, not in this case. I really believe that the Black Hawks are so far into the heads of some Calgary players that it was a major factor in the two meltdowns earlier this season. Just watch the interaction on the ice between the two teams the conversations seem very one sided and usually end with the Chicago players laughing and skating away.
The Flames have shown the ability to bounce back, you can’t hang your hat on that but you can use it as a building block to getting back on your feet.
The Hawks are by far and away the happiest group of players I have ever seen at this time of the year, even Detroit who recently have been very good in January were confident and in good spirits but not down right giddy like Chicago.

Rob, are you going to ask Bettman, when the league is going to get serious about head shots? If you do, try to get a straight answer, not political mumbo jumbo. Action, not meaningless phrases is necessary now.
- curmudgeonWe will bounce back - no doubt. We’ve lost games recently where we dominated for the most part.
I think there are only two things missing. Some creativity around the net - we still spend too much time cycling on the boards. San Jose figured that out in a hurry. And there are just too many defensive mistakes, again related to the cycling i.e. too many guys committed too deep. I’ve seen some awful defensive mistakes lately, but I think we hang the defense out to dry, too.
- MarkAfter watching the lacklustre performance of our team for the last 20 plus games, my opinion is Dion Phaneuf has to go. Bottom line. He is the cancer that plagues this team right now, he plays with zero ambition, no heart, no passion. Time to make a move Daryl……
- AdamWhen we have a guy like Johnson who can easily step up and fill that roll it makes #3 that much more expendable. Find us a guy who can put the puck in the net, someone who is proud to be a part of our team/city.
Hi Rob,
- FlamurI was at the game last night and I must say I was ashamed of the “booing” that some fans gave to our team at the end of the game. True fans should understand what the team is going through and booing will not make it easier. Fans are there for support not a push to the grave.
Just my two cents
Hey just wanted to touch on Adam’s point about Dion. Our defensive core should be the best in the NHL, with the likes of Regehr, Phaneuf,Sarich & Bowmeester. But when your best defenseman is your lowest paid @ 1 mill a year (Giordano), there is a problem. I really do think it is time for GM Sutter to look at making a serious move. I am hesitant to give away anyone cause it seems they always end up going onto bigger and better things but we need to. What do you think about a trade with the Kings for Jarret Stoll? A 20+ goal scorer that can win a faceoff, or with the Devils for Travis Zajac a 30+ goal scorer on a team that needs scoring from their defense. The Kings have the cap room being 5.7 m under the cap. The Devils on the other hand have only 2.4 mil left so that might be a little harder. Just putting that out there, and lets hope that someone (SUTTER) might work some magic.
- JasonLove to trade either Phaneuf or Regehr for a top 6 forward that can win some faceoffs. I don’t know who, but someone. It won’t happen until the trade deadline if it happens at all. Maybe putting one of them in the press box would let them see the game differently. All I know is this team doesn’t have what it takes. Not now, not this season.
If Iginla isn’t going to lead on the ice, then when is he going to lead? He’s not a locker room leader, so when is he going to lead? We don’t seem to have a leader.
