stairs.jpg

Came across this on the weekend at a west end shopping mall. It immediately caught my attention with the big question why?

Was the person in charge of the escalator unaware that when the escalator is “out of service” it can still be used as stairs? Probably not…instead I assume that after watching the general populace of Ottawa the escalator over-sear knew that without the out of service sign they would be faced with a log jam, possibly hundreds of shoppers long, all stopped at the bottom of the escalator wondering, “Oh my god! How will we ever get to the top?”

As dumb as that sounds you know it probably happened, causing the need to put the sign up.

I also had to chuckle at the thought of how this escalator became “out of order”: Again picturing 100’s of people on the way up and down, going merrily on their way, then suddenly , PANIC! Halfway up (or down) they became STUCK! Again all asking “Oh my god! this is serious, how will we get down?” as panic sets in someone screams “HELP!”… no one answers… ” Help, please help, I’m stuck halfway down! What are we going to do! Call the fire department! They’ll be the only ones with ladders tall enough to reach me!”

Then the only person in the mall with common sense (too bad it’s not so common) suggests - ” Walk down! They can be used as stairs”

The shoppers think for a moment …. skeptically they put one foot down a step then another and another until finally reaching the bottom, only to chastise the advice giver that they’ll be filing a formal complaint with the mall for their poor unfair condescending treatment at the establishment!

Escalator over-sear I salute you! Enter STAIRS as a bonus code worth CHEZ Nation points!

I usually go with a teeth start into a thumb finish. But depending on how much coffee you drink your mouth and hands may already be feeling the pain. Thought I’d pass along this for the hardcore roller! Need help rolling? There’s a tool for that! Not sure if they’re still on sale but 2 years ago you could get them at Lee Valley Stores. Am I the only one who thinks..”What a great idea!?” By the way… as of Tuesday afternoon I’m 0 for 6!

The day after USA’s snowboard cross Bronze medal winner wears the medal around his crotch (see previous post) we now have Lindsey Vaughan deciding to be a d-bag. We all know Lindsey you were in Sports Illustrated and we know you’re a very decorated winter athlete…but when on the podium accepting Bronze you don’t need to try and steal another athlete’s moment by whipping out your Gold from another event. It’s classless and tacky!

KD Lang’s version of “Hallelujah” was incredible, the stage show was spectacular and you couldn’t get anymore Canadian than the torch lighting by committee featuring Wayne Gretzky, but for a lot of us the highlight of the opening ceremonies was when a seemingly average Joe from BC gave his beat poem.

I dunno about you but I welled up with pride and even muttered ” you’re goddamn right” when Shane Koyczan stood front and center and recited his ” WE ARE MORE”.

The version we saw was actually shorter than the original. click here for the full length.
