MRC 200

Ratings for the 2010 Oscars were way up from the previous year. The Nielsen Co.’s overnight ratings showed that 41.3 million people tuned in on Sunday (March 7th) night — up 14 percent from 2009. The figure also marked the largest Oscar audience in five years

A few things that were Oscar worthy and Razzie worthy about the 82nd Annual Academy Awards

- Steve Martin could have hosted the show himself
- Nice to see the Oscar scenes again (more clips from the movies is always a good thing)
- the most predictable Academy Awards until the small categories and the Best Adapted Screenplay (Precious)
- cringe every time a team goes up to receive an Oscar. There’s always one person that gets more mic time than the other and when the microphone gets cut off, all bets are off.
- Ben Stiller as an avatar
430benstilleravatar.jpg
- best line of the night - Steve Martin “I wrote that speech for him”
- Robin Williams playing it straight
- it’s ironic when costume designer Sandy Powell doesn’t know how to dress
- beautiful set for the Kodak Theater
- Paranormal Activity and the Snuggie bits worked so for Martin and Baldwin
- The Hurt Locker’s Paul N.J Ottossom finishes his speech after winning two Oscars in a row
- what gives with Michael Jackson in the memoriam?
- they get rid of the songs nominated for Best Original Song for interpretive dancing?
- not cool with the producers cutting acceptance speeches so actors can talk about those nominated for the acting categories
- standing O for Jeff Bridges but his speech deserved a standing ZZZZZZZ
- Sandra Bullock = best acceptance speech of the night
- Barbra Streisand looks like an older Jennifer Aniston
- the following was my reaction of Tom Hanks and the quickest Best Picture announcement in the history of the Oscars

VANCOUVER 2010 - 13 GOLD 7 SILVER 5 BRONZE

February 27th, 2010 by Rick Lee

2010-vancouver-olympic-medals-gold.jpg
Curler Kevin Martin has given Canada its 13th gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics. The Edmonton skip defeated Norway’s Thomas Ulsrud 6-3 in the final. It was Canada’s 25th medal of the Olympics, surpassing its Turin total of 24, and making it Canada’s best-ever Winter Olympic performance.

Congrats to Kevin Martin, third John Morris, second Marc Kennedy and lead Ben Hebert (the team is rounded out by alternate Adam Enright and coach Jules Owchar).

Canada has a chance for a record 14 gold medals. The best mark for the Olympics is 13 shared by the Soviets in 1976 and Norway in 2002.

It all comes down to the final event of the Vancouver 2010 - Canada vs. USA - Men’s Gold Medal Game.

The Rickster (wondering how he will be at the Closing Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics).

Canada has guaranteed a Winter Games record for number of Canadian medals and now the country is about to accomplish the unthinkable - record number of gold medals at a Winter Olympic Games.

Canada’s men’s speedskaters win gold over the United States in the team pursuit.

The team of Denny Morrison, from Fort St. John, B.C., Lucas Makowsky, of Regina and Mathieu Giroux of Montreal beat the Americans by 21-100ths of a second over the eight-lap, 3,200-metre event.
2622457bin.jpeg
Jasey-Jay Anderson from Mont-Tremblant, Que., is the most celebrated snowboarder in Canadian history and after 20 years and four Olympics, he had done it. Anderson was Olympic champion.
2620974bin.jpeg
Lyndon Rush, of Humboldt, Sask., along with teammates David Bissett of Edmonton, Calgary’s Lascelles Brown and Chris Le Bihan of Grande Prairie, Alta., win bronze finishing just 1-100ths of a second behind Germany’s Andre Lange.

The Rickster (wondering who’s owning the podium now).

VANCOUVER 2010 - 10 GOLD 7 SILVER 4 BRONZE

February 27th, 2010 by Rick Lee

2619404bin.jpeg
It’s time for the Canadian men athletes to step up, and that they did.

Two gold. One bronze. One roof.

Charles Hamelin won the men’s 500-metre gold medal and then was part of Canada’s four-man team that raced to victory in the 5000-meter relay at the Pacific Coliseum.   François-Louis Tremblay won bronze in the 500-metre short track speed skating.

The results give Canada 10 gold medals in Vancouver — the first country to reach the total — and push its overall count to 21 medals (3 away from tying their most medal count at the Winter Olympics).

The Rickster (wondering how this could be the most memorable weekend for our Canadian athletes in Olympic history).

Canada’s Cheryl Bernard will have to settle for silver after losing the women’s curling final at the Vancouver Olympics.  The 43-year-old Calgary skip dropped a 7-6 decision to defending Olympic champion Anette Norberg of Sweden.
