Rangers and Storm open series on Friday

The Kitchener Rangers and Guelph Storm open their OHL Western Conference
Quarter-Final playoff series on Friday, March 22nd at the Aud.
The game starts at 7:30, with the pre-game show getting underway at 7pm on 570 News.

Rangers win last trip to Guelph

Kitchener native Derek Schoenmakers scored twice to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Storm in Guelph on Wednesday night.
Radek Faksa potted the other Kitchener goal.
John Gibson picked up his first win since returning from injury, making 37 saves.
Kitchener and Guelph could meet in the first round of the playoffs. The Rangers are 4th in the Western Conference. four points ahead of the Storm.
The Rangers skate in Saginaw on Friday. 570 News will have the pre-game show at 7pm. Kitchener’s final regular season game is in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday night.

Rangers drop final home game of regular season

The Kitchener Rangers blew a two goal lead in the third period, losing their final home game of the regular season 5-3 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.
Tobias Rieder scored twice in the losing cause, while Matt Puempel had the other Kitchener goal, his 32nd of the season. Captain Ryan Murphy assisted on all three goals.
Blueliner Ben Fanelli was held out of the game as a precaution. He took a hard hit in Friday’s game vs. Saginaw. He still needs to pass his return to play protocol.

Playoff tickets on sale Friday

Kitchener Rangers playoff tickets go on sale this Friday at noon.
The tickets will be for games A and B (home games #1 and #2).
The Rangers first round opponent has yet to be determined.
Tickets may be purchased by phone at 519-578-1570 or 1-800-265-8977, via the internet or in person at The Aud Box Office or Centre in the Square.

Rangers down Storm 6-4

The Kitchener Rangers put more of a cushion between them and the Guelph Storm
with a 6-4 win over their Highway 7 rival on Tuesday night at the Aud.
Guelph made it close as the Rangers went into the third with a 4-1 lead.
Radek Faksa, Brent Pedersen, Ryan Murphy, Derek Schoenmakers, Ben Thomson were the goal scorers for Kitchener. Matt Puempel put one in the empty net, his 30th of the season.
The Rangers are now five points ahead of Guelph in the Midwest Division.
Kitchener is home to Saginaw on Friday. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.

Rangers ground Spits

The Kitchener Rangers snapped a three game losing streak with a 4-1 victory in Windsor on Thursday night.
Keli Grant’s first goal of the season was the game winner.
Former Spitfire Nick Czinder also tallied his first of the year. The other Ranger goal scorers were Domenic Alberga and Curtis Meighan.
John Gibson picked up the win, stopping 33 shots. It was Gibson’s first game since
November 27th. He was out with a hip injury.
Kitchener hosts the Erie Otters tonight. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.

Murphy makes Team Canada

The third time is the charm for Kitchener Rangers’ captain Ryan Murphy.
Murphy has made Canada’s World Junior hockey team which will go for gold in Russia over the Christmas holidays.
Murphy had been cut from the team on two previous occasions.
He’ll be joined on the squad by Rangers’ head coach Steve Spott, who is also Canada’s head coach.
The final roster was announced last evening. Kitchener native Mark Scheifele of the Barrie Colts also made the team for a second straight year.
Canada’s first game is on Boxing Day against Germany.

Bailey headed to Top Prospects game

Kitchener Rangers rookie Justin Bailey is one of 40 players who will play in the
2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Sportsnet will show the game at 9pm on January 16th.
Bailey has 7 goals and 5 assists in 24 games with the Rangers this season.
He will play on Team Orr.

Home losing streak

The Kitchener Rangers have now dropped three in a row at The Aud.
Their latest loss came Sunday night, Kitchener fell 2-1 to the Ottawa 67′s in a shootout, despite a 36-24 shot advantage.
Cory Genovese scored the only Kitchener goal, his first of the season.
Dante Salituro had the shootout winner for Ottawa.
The Rangers play Thursday night in Windsor. 570 News has the broadcast at 7pm.

Knights extend streak, but end Kitchener’s

The Kitchener Rangers had their two game winning streak halted in a 3-1 home loss to the London Knights on Tuesday.
The win now gives London 12 in a row.
Domenic Alberga scored the lone Ranger goal, his second of the season. Chris Tierney had two goals and an assist for the Knights.
Kitchener’s leading scorer Matt Puempel will be re-evaluated today. He left in the first period with a suspected shoulder injury.
The Rangers host Windsor on Friday. Note the start time : 570 News and Rogers Sportsnet have the broadcast at 7pm. The game was moved up to 7 from 7:30 as the contest will be nationally televised.
