Rangers in final NHL draft rankings

Four Kitchener Rangers and one prospect have made the final draft rankings put out by NHL Central Scouting.

7. Radek Faksa

9. Jacob Trouba (Rangers own his junior rights)

59. Matia Marcantuoni

70. Max Iafrate

Evan McEneny is on the list but not ranked due to limited viewing by scouts because of his injury.

Frank Palazzese is ranked 9th among North American goalies.

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft will be held June 22-23rd in Pittsburgh.

Rangers round 2 dates

The Kitchener Rangers will open the 2nd round of the OHL playoffs on the road in Plymouth on Good Friday.

Here are the game times and locations as released by the team on

Here is the ticket info from the Kitchener Rangers:

Tickets for home games E and F (Round 2, Home Games 1 & 2) are now on sale.

Season ticket holders will have until 48 hours before the start of game E (Round 2, Home Game 1) and 48 hours before the start of game F (Round 2, Home Game 2) to buy their season ticket locations.

Season ticket holders who have not pre-purchased their playoff tickets must purchase Game E (Home Game 1) tickets by end of box office day Friday, April 6. All unclaimed/purchased season ticket holder seats for Game E will be released for public sale on Saturday, April 7 at 10:00am.

Gibson signs with Anaheim Ducks

Kitchener Rangers goalie John Gibson has signed his first pro contract.

He’s inked a three-year entry level deal with the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks.

The 18-year-old Pittsburgh native is tied for the Canadian Hockey League lead in save percentage (.926 SV%, tied with teammate Franky Palazzese).

Due to a number of injuries he has appeared in just 31 games.

Gibson was selected in the 2nd round (39th overall) in last year’s NHL Entry Draft.

Rangers Rocking Mountain High

Gabriel Landeskog’s breakout season in the NHL continues.

He had two assists in Colorado’s win over Anaheim on Monday night and now has 40 points.

Landeskog is now just a point behind New Jersey’s Adam Henrique for the rookie scoring lead.

The former Kitchener Rangers Captain leads all first year players with a +22 rating and in shots with 204.

The Avalanche also picked up ex-Ranger Steve Downie in a trade with Tampa last week.

He and Landeskog have clearly found some chemistry on the ice as the two have been playing on a line together.

Downie has 2 goals and 5 assists and is +7 rating in his last three games.

Colorado is also undefeated since trading for him.

Don Cameron Potato Night this Friday

The 15th annual Don Cameron Potato Night is coming up at this Friday’s Kitchener Rangers game.

The Rangers welcome the Owen Sound Attack.

Fans are encouraged to bring along a sack of potatoes to support the House of Friendship’s annual February Potato Blitz.

House of Friendship Executive Director, John Neufeld tells 570 News where those potatoes go, “most of the spuds will be taken to our emergency food hamper program where they will be distributed to people in crisis who are needing food.”

Don Cameron really hands it to the House of Friendship for all of their community work, “they have 19 different programs that they run in the course of the year. Many of them involve food, and with food come potatoes, and they need approximately
200,000 lbs of potatoes to run their programs every year,” Cameron said.

Last year, Ranger fans brought over 4,700 lbs of spuds to the game.

Murphy named Player of the Week

Kitchener Rangers defenceman Ryan Murphy is the first Ranger to win the
OHL Player of the Week award this season.

The first round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes collected 2 goals and 5 assists in games at Kingston, Belleville and Ottawa.

Murphy scored the game winning goal against the Bulls on Saturday night.

He has 25 points in 27 games so far this season.

Kitchener plays in London on Wednesday.

Matia done for season

Kitchener Rangers forward Matia Marcantuoni won’t play another game this season.

He will undergo surgery later this week to repair damage that he sustained to his left shoulder.

Marcantuoni suffered a second set-back with his shoulder when he was injured in a game in Erie earlier this month.

It’s expected Matia will be ready for the start of the 2012-13 season.
