The mother of 17 year old Alex Hayes is in dire financial straits  and  might not be able to afford a proper funeral for her son.   Her son was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver Friday night.   Her best friend, Michelle Larabie,  is accepting donations and  can  be  reached at this number:  613-668-3751.   Thank you very much.

It’s time these fat cat politicians got off their butts and did something about this; How about driving drunk and you take a life the court takes your license for good, period!!!

Hopefully the end of a life will be the END of her license! It should never have gone so far.

After to listening to Randall’s commentary my blood is boiling! First off my thoughts and prayers go to Alex Hayes mother and family at this time.
When are the politicians and judges going to get themselves some balls and nail drunk drivers to the wall?!!!!! That low life Samira should not be driving!
Good thing for Samira Mohamed Daoud that it was not my son because she would regret ever having drunk alcohol!

My sympathies go out to the Hayes family for their unexpected loss.

Obviously our legal system is not working on this DUI matter. When a *person* drives a vehicle and hits a person and keeps going does this not tell the judges and prosecuters something? As far as a defense goes, what defense?Young Alex wasnt able to defend himself nor able to help himself. How does one *human being* leave another as not only this woman has done but others,eg.(Mr Davis who did the same thing approx 2 years ago to Mr Dorion at Richmond rd/Woodroffe),and yet we have this incident on Friday.Alex Hayes did not have a chance, but yet,the person that hit and run him did in the past and we can be 100% sure that this person who did this will get a chance in life.People who do as this person did do not care about consequences because there are none. There maybe some in the law books but obviously there arent any judges or prosecuters who will have the gutts to just say no to any plea bargaining.

When it comes to issues such as this whether or not a life is taken due to ignorance etc,its obvious that the DRUNK DRIVERS are laffing at the system or they would not be doing what they are doing or have done.I would think that any lawyer defending these animals ought to put themeselves into the shoes of the families that have lost their love one and maybe NOT take the case.Screw the defendants rights in situations such as this where its certain that THEY are the one who took the life of another due to DUI.
Maybe throw in taking all assets and selling them and giving proceeds to the family of the victim,oh yes I forgot, these animals have rights unfortunatly.

Randall – thank you for such a great commentary.
Unfortunately as in this case – you can take away a license but it didn’t stop her (or many others) as she was driving anyway – and in a stolen car no less with no insurance. In the case when a person decides to drink/drive and takes a life – jail time should be mandatory, based on the circumstances – in this women’s case, multiple drunk driving offences, suspended license, stolen car, no insurance and taking a life – this must be 5-10 yrs at least, that young lad is gone forever!!! The Courts have to start sending a message – and no early parole, but this won’t happen because the jails are overcrowded and they would feel sorry for her…..
Such a waste of a young life because of an arrogant/selfish person with no regards for others – I hope this haunts her forever!!!
