All 1st responders put their lives on the line everyday. Police, Paramedics and Fire Fighters have accepted this with no regrets. They all deserve the best pay and benefits. I would want the best coming for me if I was sick, injured or if my house was on fire and sometimes to get the best we have to pay. Lets look at our dysfunctional councilors and ask them to take a pay cut and see what happens.
- robshome@sympatico.caAS robshome states above the best pay for the best people. However when a police constable makes over 100k per year, alot of that is overtime pay. I believe the salary of a first class constable is around 72k per year and I think a firefighter is the same. A decent salary, but definately not too much for the B.S. these men and women put up with everyday. As for the sick days, thsi nonsense of “saved sick days” has got to stop. Sick days are there for when you are sick, not an investment where you can cash out and retire 3 or 4 years early. This would help a great deal if this were eliminated across the whole public sector. What the hell are the yearly pay increases for the city’s top brass? The last police chief Vince Bevan was earning 168k a year, now I see Vern White earning 250k a year. It’s only been what..3 yrs sine Bevan retired. That is a 50% pay increase. I only received a 5% pay raise in that same time period. Maybe top brass at the city pay increases could be frozen. It looks like alot our money is going in their pockets.
- BryanThe tope nd of Government is a joke. At the Congress sntre I was told that staff have been laid off due to reconstruction but the exec are maintained at big salaries.
- AnonymousZHospitals lay off nurses while the CEO’s make in the 500K range. And people wonder about leadership…It’s called “Make way, more for me”
