NHL blows it again

Ovechkin gets two games for his hit on Brian Campbell. The former 67 star is out indefintely with a broken collarbone. Ovechkin, a repeat offender, will be back for the weekend. Is there something wrong with this picture? Matt Cooke, meanwhile, receives nothing for blindsiding Marc Savard. I love hockey but the NHL is becoming a joke.

more overtime
March 14th, 2010 by randall.moore
These overtime games are killing me. Another one last night. The Ottawa Junior Senators beating the Gloucester Rangers to even their CJHL series at 2. Good to see longtime minor hockey volunteer Rene Senecal at the game. Guys like Rene, where would hockey be without em?!?!
Look for another full house tomorrow(Monday) night at Barbara Ann. The Junior B Ottawa West Golden Knights are on the ropes after losing last night to the Ottawa Canadians. I may be wrong but it seems to me the Canadians have a little more fire in their belly. Here’s hoping I AM wrong. I want this one to go the distance.
see you rinkside……
You’ve got to be Kidding

No, this can’t be true. Only nine months after the community got together to build a wheelchair ramp for Melanie Dale, the 31 year old and her mother are being evicted from their Carling Avenue bungalow. Melanie suffers from a degenerative genetic condition . Her mental age is about 12. Don Butler writes in the CITIZEN how the city opened its heart to Melanie when it heard that before moving into the Carling Road home she was completely paralysed and hadn’t been outside in six YEARS! The West Otawa Rotary Club raised 8 grand. Home Depot threw in 20 thousand dollars worth of materials. Volunteers spent hours building a wheelchair ramp and outdoor deck. Melanie was happy, very happy, and for the first time in in years was able to go shopping with her mom…or walks through the neighbourhood.
Now this.
Their landlord, Ajaz Ahmed, who had assured Melanie’s mom they could stay ” indefinitely “, wants them evicted and has given them until the end of April to vacate the house. Mr. Ahmed, who reportedly wants to live in the house himself, is well within his ‘ legal ‘ rights. The lease has expired. But what about this e-mail Melanie’s mother received from the landlords’ sister , date Jan. 2, 2009: ” you can live there as long as (you) like if we are both happy with eath other.” To be sure, means nothing to a lawyer. But obviously there was an expectation the family could stay in the house longer than a year. I mean, why do all that work , then?
Provincial law states the Landlod and Tenant Board has to approve evictions. A board hearing is set for this week. I’ll keep you posted.

Great to see so many CHEZ listeners at the Sportsplex last night. What a game! The underdog Nepean Raiders beat the Cornwall Colts in overtime to even their CJHL series at one. And what a job Craig Cowie did shadowing Jacob Laliberte. Should have been first star.
Here’s hoping the 67’s play Sudbury in the opening of the major Junior A playoffs. I want to see Eric O’Dell, the Ottawa boy who plays for the Wolves.
Mark this game on your calender. Boston-Pittsburgh next Thursday. Matt Cooke, I’d like you to meet Milan Lucic. The Bruins’ Mark Recchi is right when he says things would have been very different if Sidney Crosby was on the receiving end of Cook’s cheap shot, and not Marc Savard. Obviously, the league dropped the ball.
see you at the rink……

Me, a Liberal?
March 11th, 2010 by randall.moore
So I said former Conservative M-P Rahim Jaffer received a ‘ sweetheart ‘ deal from the courts after originally being charged with drunk driving, careless driving and cocaine possession. A 500 dollar fine. Not bad. The ‘ usual suspects ‘ say I’m doing a smear job on behalf of the Liberals. Really? The judge in the Jaffer case was appointed by the Ontario government in 2000 when current Federal finance minister Jim Flaherty was the provinical Attorney General.
Just thought you should know.
