The TH&VS Homecoming is shaping up to be a successful event.
Paul Toffanello, Co-chair of the Homecoming, said the response so far has been good.
” We’ve got a pretty good response. We’re anticipating a lot more, particularly local people who seem to be a little ‘johnny come lately’. We’re hoping to encourage them all to get their registrations in as soon as possible.” He said.
He added, they anticipate well over 1000 people and are hoping for 2000. At the last reunion, they had well over the 2000 mark, but 900 of those RSVP’d in the last week. That made it difficult for organizers.
Wendy Adams is the other Co-chair and she said people are responding from all over the world, some have not been back to Timmins in over 25 years.
” I got a gentleman who registered from Cordoba, Spain this week. Somebody is coming from South Africa, many are coming from the west, about 25 from the States already. We’re bringing an amazing number of people to town and I think Timmins will be real happy to see everyone.” She said.
Reg Pope will even be attending. He is the most senior student to be attending so far, having graduated in 1937. Ev Reimer, former Principal who graduated in 1939 will also be in attendance.
Spanning the entire Civic long weekend from August 3rd to 6th, there will be something for everyone to take part in from dinners, parties, football games and concerts.
It was announced Thursday that Xstrata Copper – Kidd Operations is the exclusive sponsor for the Almuni Concert in the Hollinger Park on August 5th.
“Xstrata Copper Kidd Operations is pleased to part of the City’s Centennial celebrations and to present one of the main events of the TH&VS Alumni Reunion. Many of our employees and their families are graduates of TH&VS and we wish them a truly memorable reunion,” said Carole Belanger, Communications and Community Relations Coordinator.
Five bands will be taking the stage and each one has at least one Timmins High Alumni.
