Wovles Lose Close Game

The Sudbury Wolves were on the road looking to rebound last night but came up short.

The local juniors were edged 2-1 by the Barrie Colts.

Nathan Pancel had the Wolves lone goal, and Joel Vienneau made 37 saves in the loss.

Long Time Wolves Announcer Passes Away

The long time voice of the Sudbury Wolves has passed away.

Berk Keaney died today.

He was 90 years old.

Keaney spent 59 years as the public address announcer at the Sudbury Arena.

Just before he announced his final Wolves game earlier this year he told Q92′s News Director Stew Kernan what he would miss the most after putting down the mic for the last time.

He said he would miss Sudbury’s passionate and knowledgeable hockey fans.

Keaney was inducted into the House of Kin Sports Hall of Fame in 1979 and received a lifetime achievement award last June during the annual induction ceremony.

Visitation will be held from 2-9pm Friday at Lougheed Funeral Home on Regent Street.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning, 10am, at Our Lady of Hope Church on Brennan Road in Gatchell.

A six goal weekend has garnered Sudbury Wolves forward Josh Leivo the O-H-L Player of the week honours.

The Leafs prospect scored twice in Sudbury’s 4-1 win in Peterborough Thursday, then he added another in the Wolves’ 3-2 win over Kingston, Saturday.

Leivo capped off the three win weekend with a hat trick against Ottawa Sunday in the club’s 6-4 victory.

The trio of victories leaves the local juniors tied for 2nd spot in the Eastern Conference.

Sudbury has won five of its last 8-games.

Perfect Road Trip

A perfect 3-0 road trip for the Sudbury Wolves this weekend.

The Wolves beat the Ottawa 67s 6-4 yesterday led by a hat-trick from Josh Leivo.

Also scoring for the local juniors were Sam Schutt, Mathew Campagna, and Michael Kantor.

Joel Vienneau was back in net for the win.

The weekend trip also saw wins in Peterborough and Kingston.

Wolves Beat Kingston

After last weekend’s forgettable road trip, the Sudbury Wolves look to be getting it together.

The local juniors beat Kingston 3-2 last night for their second straight road win.

Wolves goalie Taylor Dupuis has now won his first two starts of the season.

Matthew Campagna, Josh Leivo, and Nathan Pancel had the goals for the Wolves.

Wolves Snap 3-Game Road Losing Skid

Josh Leivo scored twice to help the Sudbury Wolves snap a three-game road losing streak last night with a 4-1 win in Peterborough.

Jacob Harris helped out with a goal and assist and Taylor Dupuis allowed just one goal in 24-shots.

The local juniors visit Kingston Saturday and finish off in Ottawa Sunday afternoon.

Nickel Barons Ranked 5th Best In Canada

The 5th best Junior “A” hockey team in the country is back in action tonight.

The Sudbury Nickel Barons play host to the Soo Thunderbirds…game time at the McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff  is 7:30.

The Barons go in with an NOHL best…8-0 record .

Wolves Go Winless This Weekend

A rough road trip for the Wolves ended yesterday with another loss.

The local juniors fell to Windsor 5-2 in the afternoon game.

The loss comes after losses to the Plymouth Whalers and Saginaw Spirit on the trip.

Wolves Head Coach Trent Cull will be back behind the bench for the next game, this Thursday in Peterborough, after serving a two game suspension.

Wolves Fall to Whalers

A rough road trip for the Sudbury Wolves continued last night versus the Plymouth Whalers.

The Wolves fell 6-2 after allowing four goals in less than three minutes in the second period.

The local juniors played with out head coach Trent Cull is served the first game of a two game suspension.

The Wolves are back in action this afternoon in Windsor.

OHL Suspends Wolves Coach

The Sudbury Wolves will have to finish their road trip without head coach Trent Cull.

Cull has been suspended two games by the league after comments made to a ref in Thursday’s game versus Saginaw.

Cull was kicked out of the game after a third period goal by the Spirit.

Assistant coach Dave Bell will be behind the bench for the rest of the weekend.
