Greater Sudbury Fire Services wants residents to know the Ban on open-air burning is still in place.
There has been some confusion recently because the Ministry of Natural Resources shrunk its Restricted Fire Zone Order, which now excludes Sault Ste Marie & Timmins.
But Sudbury Fire Prevention Officer, Leo Frappier says Sudbury is still within the restricted area due to its extremely dry conditions.
He warns residents they can’t have their campfires, berry pickers shouldn’t smoke in the bush and even exhaust from all terrain vehicles could ignite a fire.
In the past week-and-half, Sudbury Fire crews have been called to 27 bush fires and many are started by humans.
The MNR’s Restricted Fire Zone also includes Espanola, Manitoulin, North Bay and Temagami.
