Two dozen students from Cyril Varney Public School have challenged other Grade Six students across the city to a battle of knowledge.

This morning, the group was part of a fun kick-off for Emergency Preparedness Week.

Three teams competed against each other with the help of local radio celebrities.

Emergency Management Officer, Carolyn Salem says the “Are You Smarter Than a 6th Grader?” is a way to get the information out to families, since the children will take the message to their parents and siblings.

The same questions the Cyril Varney students answered will be posted on the city’s website during May, which is Emergency Preparedness month.

Plus Cyril Varney’s Grade 6 class is challenging other Grade 6-ers to take the test to try to beat their scores.

Salem says the questions focus on putting together an emergency kit and preparing a family emergency plan.
