North Bay’s Mayor was in Sudbury yesterday to speak to city council about Northern Ontario unity.

Al McDonald says often politicians at Queen’s Park forget about the North.

He says communities across the region need to work together towards a vision or plan with a united voice to make Northern Ontario successful…and not be dictated to by politicians from Southern Ontario.

McDonald wants to create a northern coalition to focus on issues affecting our region.

He says Northern Ontario has 10-12 seats at Queen’s Park and sometimes we get overlooked by political parties trying to form governments.

McDonald says the Northern Ontario Growth plan is vague and agencies like Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) and Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) are lobbying organizations for policies already in place.

He says as leaders in the North, they should provide leadership, a plan, a direction and a vision for the region.
