Cliffs Natural Resources is still in the early planning stages for a new chromite smelter.
The Cleveland based mining company has identified a number of potential sites for a plant, including one just north of Capreol.
Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk and city staff met with company officials yesterday.
She calls the talks productive, but says details of the meeting can’t be discussed.
Cliffs acquired the largest chromite deposit in North America right here in northern Ontario in 2010 and now need a place to process the ore.
