Tonight is the big night most young goblins, ghosts, clowns and princesses have been waiting for…..Halloween.

In order to keep it a safe one, police have several tips for kids, parents, home-owners and motorists to keep in mind.

Starting with the young trick or treaters, travel in groups and cross at controlled intersections and avoid criss-crossing the street.

“Parents should ensure their children have a flashlight and wear reflective material in order to be seen,” says Staff Sergeant John Somerset. “And when checking their kids treats, when in doubt….throw it out!”

Home-owners he says should make sure walk-ways are clear from any potential obstructions and when handing out treats, make sure your door-way is clearly lit.

And they’re asking motorists to take their time tonight when traveling through residential areas.

“Just use caution, stay alert and keep your eyes on the road,” says Somerset.

Police say they will have an added presence on residential streets tonight to make sure everyone has a safe evening.

“Certainly, if anyone has a problem, flag down a passing police cruiser or call 9-1-1,” he says.

Tonight Police will be partnering up with the Sudbury Amateur Radio Club for the 12th year, patrolling local streets.
