Alzheimer Society Launches “Sponsor A Senior”
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010
‘Sponsor a Senior’…..that’s the new fundraising initiative at the Alzheimer Society of Sudbury-Manitoulin.
The sponsorships provide seniors with dementia with the 17-dollar-a-day user fee to attend the day progam at the Adult Day Centre.
Executive Director Patricia Montpetit says the program benefits both the client and their families.
The care-giver gets a much needed respite from their 24-hour a day, seven-day a week caregiving, which can be exhausting.
The program provides stimulating activities for the Alzheimer patients in a secure environment.
Organizations or individuals can sponsor one person for one day a week for one year for 850-dollars.
The day program runs Monday to Friday to 8:30am to 4pm at the site on Notre Dame Avenue and can accept between 20 and 30 clients.

The third member of the family is 9-year old Ben.
The Delaire’s will be able to move into their new home in Azilda in September.
This is the 5th home built by the Sudbury chapter of Habitat for Humanity and wouldn’t have been possible without all the hard work from the Delaire’s, countless volunteers, the City and the Trades and Apprenticeships Program at College Boreal.

Monday, June 28th, 2010
By Gary Beech
Vale and the Steelworkers are meeting today but this time it’s in a courtroom.
The company feels the union and six of its members should be facing contempt of court charges and be heavily fined for setting up barricades at two of its operations last month.
Those demonstrations prevented Vale from accessing Coleman mine and Clarabelle Mill for 5-days, which the company says violated a previous court injunction.
Three days have been set aside this week for the case.
The Steelworkers and six of its members could be facing heavy fines and charges.
The hearing was supposed to be held last week but some of the six were involved in Toronto negotiations with the company.
