Underserviced Area Program Under Review in Sudbury
Monday, August 31st, 2009
Sudbury’s M-P-P Rick Bartolucci says he’d like a PET scanner in the North-East but the Hospital has to ask.
Meeting with stake holders and physicians yesterday, Bartolucci along with Soo M-P-P David Orazietti had meetings about the Underserviced Area Program.
It’s one of several consultations around Ontario to update a program that he says hasn’t been changed in 40 years.
Whether or not that includes a PET scan, Bartolucci tells Q92 any scans in Ontario have been paid for by the Hospital not the province.
“The Minister of Health already knows that I would want my community to have a PET scan, but I have to wait in all honesty until the Hospital decides that they want one,” says Bartolucci.
Meantime he says changes to the program will not affect Northern cities statuses like Sudbury, in receiving funding.

“It’s not a personal decision, and it’s a decision that the party will take as a party. We’re more united than ever and we’ll make this decision….I keep using the word serenely but it will be a serene decision.” Ignatieff told reporters.
Liberals have set aside three days of meetings to discuss party policy and issues here at Regent Street’s Holiday Inn.
He told reporters the problems plaguing the host city have not been far from his mind speaking to striking Steelworkers at Vale Inco this morning.
“We don’t want to politicize the issue but we’re concerned about Sudbury and concerned about the community!” he says.
Meantime he’s urging the Brazilian giant to get back at the table.
He’s also urging for transparency from the Conservative Government and says Vale Inco made promises to Sudbury and Canadians and it’s time Minister Clement told us what they were.
