A community recycling depot could get some financial support in the future. A representative of Community Living Algoma will address Council about the depot that has been around for more than four years and has experienced an increase in work load and contribution. This has resulted in a prolonging of Sault Ste. Marie’s landfill. Since 2009, the facility has diverted about 90 transport loads of electronics away from the dump. City Council will decide on Monday on a request for 20 thousand dollars that would be referred to the 2013 City Budget. If approved, the funding would be used to sustain depot operations. The future of Pointe des Chenes Park will be the subject of a report put together by city staff. The motion from councillors Paul Christian and Marchy Bruni comes after it was determined during 2012 City Budget deliberations that council will look for a chance to lower expenditures and improve effeciencies within city operations. It also comes as an estimated 45 thousand dollars is required for upgrades at Pointe des Chenes — the city has historically paid for the capital expenditures at the trailer park. Pointe des Chenes also includes a day use area. The report would help determine what direction the park would take from selling the property to private interests to expansion. It’s suggested the local Lions Club be consulted as part of the final document.
