They work to prevent Asian carp from going into the Great Lakes. The Asian Carp Regional Protection Committee now includes Ontario, a move described by the McGuinty government as a further step for the province to prevent the fish from moving in any further. The committee was established by the 2009 by the US government to co-ordinate local, state and federal efforts to do just that. The fish is identified as an invasive species, that could cause negative impacts on the economy and the environment for the Great Lakes in Ontario and neighbouring US states by consuming the food supply of Ontario fish.
